Thanks very much to all of you for your patience while I took some time off to relax a bit with my family. Our holiday was excellent, the weather was great and we had a wonderful time hanging out together. Interestingly, my access to the web was intermittent and not consistent like I expected, maybe that was a sign that I really did need to step away from the computer! lol

About Tipnut.comAs I mentioned when I announced the break, I had a lot of thinking to do with my family about what the next phase or direction for Tipnut.com needed to be.

This site has blossomed into something bigger than anything I ever imagined, helping more than two million visitors each month solve basic household issues, get ideas for tonight’s dinner, offer suggestions on how to soothe toothaches, headaches and other common ailments plus curating hundreds (thousands?) of creative, crafty projects from around the web. Although there are attempts, there still isn’t another site quite like it even after all these years ;) .

Thank you to everyone who offered their ideas, suggestions and even their services to help things go a little smoother around here. I really, truly appreciate it!

Although this website isn’t a family business and is just a place for me to share my passion (household tips, crafts, remedies, etc.), especially the vintage goodies, the work I do here does affect my family. As the site has grown, the amount of time it requires from me has grown with it. Do I hire help? Do I invest more time developing new tutorials, compiling remedies, cleaning recipes and tips from my notebooks, scanning and cleaning up vintage patterns, etc., or is it time to better manage what I already have published?

After six years of building this site myself, pouring my heart into organizing all the information I’ve compiled over the past couple decades (everything from fixing yellow armpit stains to DIY Febreeze and DIY laundry detergent), I find my heart now being pulled in another direction.

The core issue I’m having is that in the crafty/DIY niche Tipnut.com is a part of, we traditionally were women (and some men) happy to support each other with only a few bad apples in the bunch. Something changed in this little corner of the net awhile ago and to be honest, it’s just not fun for me anymore. Hiring help isn’t going to fix this.

It’s become clear to me that it’s time to take an extended break before I become totally disheartened and lose all my interest and motivation for keeping the site going. It might be a permanent break or maybe just temporary, I can only say that for now I need to take a step back.

What this all means:

  • Wednesday Weekly Updates will no longer be published, they are on an extended hiatus. I don’t know if they’ll ever come back and this really does hurt me because I realize so many of you looked forward to Wednesdays. Not only as readers eager to check out the new goodies that were added to the site, but also as bloggers needing and appreciating the exposure and the little boost in traffic they got from it.
  • Tipnut.com is still very much alive and relevant. The information will be kept online for years to come and I see no reason why that would change. Project pages will continue to be monitored for dead links and new projects will be added frequently…this just won’t be happening on a set schedule like before.
  • I will keep the email subscriptions active for now, which means I won’t delete any subscribers. There may be a periodic announcement and review of what’s been added to the website, something like every month or two? Maybe?
  • I will be working on a new site design. Actually I have been working on one since last year, I’ll just have more time now to get it done. Hopefully this will be up in the near future. Mentioning that now so there are no surprises ;) .
  • All past Weekly Update pages will be deleted. I know many of you keep them in your email folders to note items of interest so I will keep the pages online until the end of January 2013, this will give you several weeks to get your favorite bookmarks in order.

This all seems so cold and final, you and I have been a part of each others week for YEARS, and now I’m changing things. My love for this website and appreciation for your support hasn’t diminished and I still have so much more to offer, but the time has come for me to take a step back for a bit. I hope you understand and I hope you’ll continue to use and support Tipnut.com as you’ve done before, the information and resources will be here waiting for you as you need it.

For my fellow bloggers:

I wish each of you all the best and hope you find great success or whatever it is you are striving for. Thanks very much to those of you who supported the work that I’ve done here, it has meant so much to me :) . What a wonderful age we live in where what we type on our keyboards and even who we send a simple link to…can have a real affect on real people from all over the world!

Just found your site this year. Have been enjoying. I do understand what you are going thru…I have been writing a monthly newsletter for former classmate for about 15 years and at times, I want to step back too…you have worded your letter so nicely, I may have to take some of your ideas to incorporate into my closing letter to classmates if and when I do finally take that step. Happy trails to you….and will keep looking at your past (and maybe future) ideas.

    • pynart2 says:

I’ll miss the weekly updates, but do understand.
Life happens and some times we need a break.
I look forward to your New design and to see what else you have up your sleeve.
May you and your family have a Very Merry christmas.

i also will miss you as I have been on the receiving end for a long time and have used many of your tips and recipes for numerous things. Now will have to search…which of course takes a lot longer. Enjoy your extra time and hurry back…

I have been a subscriber for a year and I have enjoyed your weekly Wednesday RSS feed. I’m sorry to see you take a break/go. I know you haven’t made a decision but I totally understand the importance of family time and even taking some time out for yourself. You have made all of us craft/sew/crochet/knit/scrapbook/bloggers very happy and you deserve some uninterrupted time of your own.

    Much love, success and rest,

    ~Y

I am one of those who looked forward to Wednesdays so I am sad, but I completely understand! I wish you all the best and am happy to know the site will still be here as a resource. Thank you for all you have done. I will keep my RSS feed in hopes that you will post about any new adventure you decide on.

Happy Holidays and a bright New Year!

  5. ngall says:

Hooray for taking care of yourself and staying true. Thank you for the resources you have provided, will continue to provide, and will in all likelihood share again when you find the way you want to do it. Clarity and distance are wonderful things. Also teaching me how to make my own laundry detergent, toothpaste, deodorant, and generally that I can do things and experiment and have fun are really due in part to the amazing resource you put together.

Thanks for the update. I would have been concerned. Hope you do get to enjoy some “down time”. Being creative and putting it out there uses a lot of grey matter. You may be very tired. Rest and relax…best wishes to you…..gl

I want to thank you for all you have done. I’ve received this wonderful newsletter/blog for about a year and have just loved it. I’m so sorry that it will be coming to an end. Wednesday’s just won’t be the same. I understand that times come to move on; it just seems that all the pleasant, wholesome and traditional things are coming to an end in all parts of our society. I will miss Tipnut, but again, my thanks for all you have done.

  25. Maria Largaespada says:

I will certainly miss the Wednesday updates, but can certainly support you following your heart. Thank you!

Enjoy yourself where ever you go in the future. Many thanks for all you have given and accomplished. My printed folder is still on my desk. At 70, have become semi-recluse. But have added baking to the things that I now do daily; along with the other things that I do to keep busy. My family is getting fat.

  31. Andrea Smith says:

    Dear TipNut,
I too am a long time DIY/Crafter (without a lot of computer savvy; I don’t blog or tweet or whatever else there is these days). I have looked forward to and enjoyed your publication immeasureably! for a number of years and you’re the first place I research when I need to know “how to”. While I understand the time constraints and demands that TipNut requires, I hope that a little respite will give you a fresh new outlook and pray that it won’t disappear altogether; even if you only publish monthly. I would be so saddened to see it go away entirely.
Wishing you a joyous Christmas Season & Blessings of good health in the coming year.
    Warmest Regards,
    Andrea

  32. maxiee says:

First the soaps go off the air and now this, to much to bear, I have enjoyed my weekly tipnut so much.

I hope things will be cleared up soon and we can carry on. I will miss this site greatly if you decide not to continue.

  33. Maxine says:

Bless you, my Dear Invisible Friend! It takes a heap of courage to step off the path, look around, and say, “Where am I? Is this where I want to be?” I’ve read some research that shows that most adults do this about every 10 years, sometimes making huge changes–sometimes small ones—but making a turn toward a newly clarified future. You’re definitely doing the right thing. I have personally enjoyed and benefitted very much from your site, and thank you very sincerely for that. But I also thank you for being a good role model, and taking your life in hand, and moving forward! God bless you real good! Wherever you work this out, and with whom, you will be a gift. Thank you!

  34. Jenise says:

I am so sad to hear this news, as I so look forward to Wednesday afternoon “Tipnut Time”… but I do understand that your family needs to come 1st! Thanks for all the work you have done thus far to help those of us who love to use “Tipnut” God Bless!

  35. Gayle says:

This is the most valuable and fabulous site I have ever seen! You are to be commended for your talent and care in keeping it going. I will greatly miss the weekly updates but LIFE does go on and should be a postitive and happy experience. Thanks you so very much for all you have given to all of us!!!!

  36. Ana says:

Well this makes me sad :(

  37. Marge Daboll says:

You deserve a great big hug!!
I quit participating in to craft shows because it got to the point where I had to spend every possible minute making product and couldn’t do the things I wanted to do. That you have stayed with TipNut for so long tells us all how passionate you are about it.
Take the time you need to ‘recharge your batteries’ so to speak, and I for one will be grateful for what I’ve received on this site and understanding of your decision if you choose not to continue. Somehow I don’t think that’s going to happen.

  38. Wanda says:

    Awe, dang…

    But on the upside…
Good luck and Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!! We’ll miss you but totally understand.

  39. Cathy says:

How sad. So many sites I love have fallen due to some bad apples. I’m sorry you’ve been bothered by those to fail to appreciate your wonderful site. Shame on them for spoiling it for you and the rest of us. Please, please don’t go away completely.

  40. jacki says:

Personally, i’m sorry you have decided to stop “managing” this huge big site-it is new to me anyway as i am “new” to it. i especially enjoyed the cleaning tips and the vintage sewing stuff. i confess i did find many of the “links” to be expired, but again, i “connected” late, so it made sense, ya know? Lots of links all over the web are expired i find anyway. But i ENJOYED TIPNUT, and i thought it was beautifully done-pat yourself on the back! Are you a web design person? Anyway it will stand out as the BEST and the EASIEST to use!
i have no clue as to your age or if you still have kids at home, but know it is hard to juggle everything and THEN do all of this for us! i have enjoyed every newsletter-now you enjoy your LIFE! Relax, spend some time with the ones you love, and KNOW you created a wonderful thing! jacki

  41. LisaD in upstate NY says:

I only found your site within the past year, but quickly looked forward to reading all the goodies on Wednesdays. I wish you the best in what you do next. You have been very generous with your time and tips. God’s Peace, LisaD in upstate NY

  42. Joan says:

You have given us many many wonderful ideas over the years.I have many filed away in my folder.
I especially like the gardening tips which I share with my oldest son who has decided to plant a vegetable garden and a flower garden. This was the first year for vegetables and it was so so.As his adopted son said “Well we are just starting, next year will be better”
His flower garden is doing very well.Attracting butterflies and many different birds.
Again thank you. Hope to see you back soon.
Happy Holidays and a Safe and Healthy New Year

  43. Jill says:

Thank you for the time that you spent creating tipnut. Ive learned alot over the years and referenced the site numerously. Thank you for having the courage to step back and digest a beautiful snowball, that seems to have gotten out of control. No one will ever know your personal love for this creation except you, and you alone…but that loved is shared by all fans of tipnut I promise…God bless you…Sincerely

Good Luck! Have a good break! Happy Holidays!

  47. Denise Rodriguez says:

I am so very sorry to hear that you have been dealt a difficult hand. For my part, I have always enjoyed the “tips” on how I could, 1st of all, save money by doing and making things generally used and needed . Many of the featured items were such fun and interesting articles. I especially enjoyed being taken back in time with sweet memories when I was a child by certain items I could make. Treasures. I do hope all will work out to your joy and happiness. Hope to see you “weekly”. And if not, know that I personally appreciated all you did for us. Thank you for all the neat and fun projects you have sent my way. Many of which are waiting for me to enjoy over and over again in a folder.

  48. Barbara Q says:

I have enjoyed your site and your regular updates and am selfishly sorry that you have decided to discontinue them. Thank you for all you’ve shared and contributed to so many of us. I will continue to reference Tipnut when faced with a question of how-to or ” where can I find…?” Thank you for leaving the site up for our perusal.

I wish you peace and good luck in your next great adventure, what ever you choose it to be. Thank you.

  49. Connie says:

So sorry to see you go…Thank you for all your hard work:)

Just wanted to let you know you are appreciated. Do what you have to do for yourself.
    Enjoy the holiday season.
Many blessing to you and yours.

  52. Susan says:

Hi. I’ve never commented online before, but have really appreciated getting your newsletters and making use of your hints and patterns. Living in New Zealand, it’s not always easy to access such patterns in store. Unfortunately I’m , what I describe as a “techno noddy” so I’ve just kept all of your newsletters and go to these when looking for hints, ideas, patterns etc. I see that you plan to delete these by end of Jan and really want to save what I can. Do I need to open each link to instruction that I’d like, in order to save? Sorry I really love the crafts, but just don’t get the technology! Hope you have a Tip Top, Tipnut hint for me!
I will miss your newsletters, but respect your desire to have more family time.
All the very best for whatever those future plans are.
    Susan

    • Aphelia says:

      Hi Susan –

I’m not with this site, just another reader, but I do have two suggestions for you, regarding how to save past web links in the Tipnut newsletters. I believe that you will need to go through each newsletter, as you suggested, and click through to find the information you want.

But when you do this – try copy and pasting the article URLs (for articles on Tipnut, that will remain on the site, and the external site links for all the useful newsletter “extras” on the web) into a word processing program file (like Microsoft Word or Corel Word Perfect). These links should hyperlink automatically (meaning that when you want to visit them, you can click through the file links directly, instead of having to copy and paste the URL in your web browser window!) and you can organize your Tips anyway you want, by subject or season or craft, etc., and prioritize them according to personal preference(need to try, have tried, want to try, etc.).

Alternately, you can copy and paste the whole text of articles that interest you into a word processing file, but by posting the links, you are effectively making your own customized TipNut reference list to visit in future! And it’s much easier to get a quick overview of the resources. It will take some time to assemble your favourites this way, but it sounds like you’re very passionate about the site, so I hope this is useful.

Advantages to this method: easily backed up on CDs, USB sticks, etc. and file can quickly be e-mailed to yourself or to others.

An even simpler shortcut – bring up your TipNut newsletter, click on the link you want, and then bookmark the site to a special folder you create in your Bookmarks just for TipNut tips! You can add sub-categories as needed for organization. This way you can access the links directly from your browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome) anytime you like. If you have any trouble with bookmarking, try visiting the Help for your Web Browser (procedure varies by product) and search for info on Bookmarking :)

  71. Kelli says:

Although your presence will be missed on a weekly basis, I applaud you for doing what is best for you, at the end of the day, you don’t have to live with any of us, and at the end of our lifetime, you need to be able to look back and say “I did what made me happy too”. This is a lovely site indeed, but living life has it’s rewards as well. I ran an etsy site for a few years, and I too felt like I was being burnt out, it became overwhelming, demanding and not fun, I stopped crafting for about a year. My Grandson put the life right back into me, in a new form, knitting is my big passion, yarn is my weakness, and I fear I have a growing addiction, but that’s okay, it’s on my terms now. God Bless, and I hope you never loose sight of you!

  72. BrownThumbMama says:

Sniff. Thank you for all you’ve taught us over the years!

  73. Julie says:

Since you are doing this could you please put up an archive somewhere so it’s easier to find things?

    Thank you and good luck.

Good for you to know when it’s time to take a step back!

I just went through a similar situation in my life; I was operating a mobile notary business that I would do on weekends and sometimes at night after I worked a full time job all day and took care of a household, husband, son and kitty! I finally last put an announcement up on my home page that I just had to take a hiatus. There was zero time left for me to do anything at all for myself.

I applaud your courage and bravery and will stick right here with you to the end! Best of luck to you

I am going to be lost without your weekly updates. I discovered the site approximately 6 months ago. There will never be another site like Tipnut.com and I hope that you will return on a regular basis. Your dedication to researching and cataloging information to assist others has saved your followers a lot of time required in surfing the net. Take time to rest and enjoy your family. Hopefully you will decide to return in a less stressful capacity (along with a staff). Just say “hi” every once in a while to let us know that you are doing well. You will, trully, be missed.

  137. Kathy Harmsen says:

I am sad for me and sad for you too. I just found your site a month ago and now feel bereft. How will I find all the info that everyone else has been collecting for years and I have just discovered? And how will you feel about having birthed a baby and now having it grown and leaving home? Well good luck to you and your family, they are the most important after all and I can understand how this must have gotten out of hand and gotten so time consuming. Thank you for all of your contributions though. I have really loved everything I have had a chance to see. Hopefully I can still catch a few things here and there. Again, good luck and thanks for all the work you have done. It is really a delightful site and like none other. Kathy

However, I understand that changes are inevitable. Thanks for all your great ideas. I’ll still be a big fan of your website and will check there often. Lots of success in the future.

  143. Ruby says:

Thank you so much for your ongoing generosity with TipNut, and thank you for sharing your own personal struggles. I want to thank you first for laundry soap recipes. Can’t tell you the last time I bought any…think of how much money that must have saved me. And secondly for baking bacon in the oven. Thanks for all your hard work, I have enjoyed your site very much.
Good luck, and kudos to you for taking a step back to re-evaluate what is important to your own happiness. There are always expectations and responsibilites that each one of us carries through life, and it is important to honor the ones that really matter.

  174. Lori says:

I’ve noticed the bad too in the DIY/Craft community. I don’t like it either and wish you the best. I struggled too over the last 3 months wondering what happened to our friendly community and struggling with even wanting to do crafts or projects because of what was going on. Everyday it seemed it was something else and bullying like I’ve never seen before. Just know we are praying for you and this too will pass (I pray and hope). Good Luck and enjoy your Family! That is always no. 1! We will be here when you return. Blog once a month on your fun family updates and share some joy in this net obsessed world where simple pleasures are worth more than GOLD! =)
    God Bless and Keep You!

  175. Nancy Winter says:

Wow! This is definitely a surprising development but an understandable one. I can imagine what a lot of work keeping up with all the files has been. You are right about looking forward to Wednesdays. I definitely have. I have gained knowledge, saved some projects, and just enjoyed looking. Thank you so much for having done all this work. It is truly invaluable. I hope you enjoy a break from this responsibility and find a path to what you truly want to do.

  176. Carole says:

Enjoy your time off and time with your family. Sometimes it is good just to step back and rest. Will miss you but glad we still can access TipNut.

  177. Patti says:

    Help me to understand this:

“All past Weekly Update pages will be deleted. I know many of you keep them in your email folders to note items of interest so I will keep the pages online until the end of January 2013, ”

Exactly what/where are the pages on your web site?

  178. Dianne says:

So sorry about the change but I can certainly understand your need to step back and re assess. Many thanks for all your past contributions. I have learned a lot here on your site. Merry Christmas and God Bless you and yours.

I love TIPNUT and thank you so much for your dedication all these years. I have not been a member for long but have valued information and knitting patterns from your site.
If you are not enjoying it any more then you definitely need to step back or out. Life is too short to do what we do not love and our families grow too quickly and lives take different directions.
I support your decision whatever it may be and wish you and your family the best.
    Thanks again,
    Marilynn

I’ve not said it before, and I don’t know why – but thank you. This site has helped me out of more binds than I care to admit. And thank you for keeping it around for a while still; that’s really comforting to me. If you’re feeling guilty for stepping back – please don’t. If we never step back, we never get to see the beauty of the whole.

  184. Jan says:

I will miss my Wednesday updates! But I completely understand and wish you well!

  185. mishahe says:

I had a blog and was able to post a couple few times a month – then i got a puppy and blamo went the blog. Living your life and not being stressed and anxious is really important – I hope by cutting back here you can devote yourself to other things. I am leaving you in my feed in case you do post something later. Also, there are several bloggers i follow who have gone months without posting or who only post monthly, so maybe after a bit you will feel the urge to return – I hope so! ;-) Thanks again for making this site and giving us such wonderful info. *hugs* misha

I have a heavy heart as I have just read your post. Naturally, I am selfishly sad for myself, but I am moved by the heartfelt pain I perceive this decision to have brought you. I will miss your updates, and wish you all of the love and peace you deserve.

  233. zenqueen says:

    Dear Tipnut
Every week I eagerly await your tips. I get real pleasure from just reading what is new. I appreciate the time you spend putting all this wonderful information together, it is evidently extremely time consuming and shows your dedication to this project. Everything is so beautifully presented.

You have touched my life in a very positive way. Thank you for all the work you have put in, and all the great tips. I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do from here on. Hopefully you will continue.
    Love and blessings.

  234. Barbara says:

I personally am very sorry that this site is virtually closing down. I have only recently come across it, and look forward to the advice and good ideas available here. I have thoroughly enjoyed the short time I have been able to access this information, and will miss it. Still and all, I do feel for you having to cope with the negativity you hint at. I wish you well, and know that one day you will be able to look back on this time in your life as just another “learning” experience we all have. God bless you and yours.

  235. Mary says:

    You are missed already! :(

  236. Ezziej Bromwich says:

I want you to know I too write a monthly Newsletter not Weekly for genealogy and I have since before 2004. And several times I thought of quitting it because I was not sure that my world wide members were even interested. My son had a talk with me for I was so stressed over this hard monthly work. He convinced me to move the Newsletter to four pages not the 10 or 11 I had been doing. And this made the difference. I find I enjoy it much more and I have time to do other things and more research. And I still have a thrill when I discover something new on a member or on a past lineage.
I am not saying it is what would help you but change all that you put into it for less work and enjoy it as you did when you first started. Add an advisory group to aid in the writing, most would do it free of charge. But please do not discontinue your tipit. It does go to Australia and New Zealand besides England and Wales and Canada by way of South Dakota.
    God bless you!
    Ezziej

  237. Elli says:

I only found you six months ago but I grew fond of the Wednesday posts. It takes a wise person to know when to back out of something she loves to do for her and her family’s benefit. Take care and God bless. (And thanks for giving us the month of January to research old posts that we always had assumed would be there!)

  238. Sylvia says:

Thanks for all your work. The information has been so helpful. You deserve a
respite. Just coming up with new ideas and info has to be exhausting. Thanks, again.

  239. Kathy Molina says:

Dear Tipnut, Thank you for all your work and sending us such wonderful tips in every category ” under the sun”! I wish you well during your hiatus. It is wise to take a break to protect your mental and physical health. Wish you the best.

  240. Patty P says:

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you’ve had some trolls visit and make things unpleasant. It can be very disheartening. Restricting the commenting to those who’ve proved in the past they can play nice doesn’t allow thoughts from new contributors but can become necessary. I have only started following TipNut in the last month or so and will miss it already.

I’ve been in a very similar situation online (a digital art group I helped create with tutorials and beta help for budding artists) and can say that to stay sane, one almost has to limit the circle of active commenting participants to a handful in a private place where trolls cannot enter, the location kept completely secret from non-participants. It is sad that any great site that is truly blossoming and helpful is subject to attack from those who just can’t stand to let others have a nice time.

Please continue to create in whatever part of the site has brought you joy, even if you exclude those of us you don’t know and trust.

    *hugs*
    Patty P

  241. Yvonne says:

I love your site and all the useful info you provide to us. I’m sorry to see the Wednesday updates end but I completely understand what you’re saying. Taking care of yourself, your health and your family must come first and I admire you for realizing that. Hopefully, time and distance will help you decide how you want to run the site in the future and you’ll be back better than ever. Have a wonderful Christmas, enjoy your family time, and I hope to see you back again in the future.

  242. Velia says:

Bad people seem to permeate in our lives and ruin the lives of good people that dedicate to please, help, support projects, etc., etc., all without asking for compensation. I am sorry to hear you and your colleagues have had the misfortune to have these vermins among you. I enjoyed your site and have sent it along to many friends with some of my favorite finds. Thank you so much for your great help, take care, rest and when you are ready to come back to us, we’ll be waiting with open arms.
Happy Holidays to you and yours.
    Velia

  258. claudia diaz says:

I read you from Chile, South America. I really sorry, but I send you all the light of the world.

  259. Gaillery says:

I have received your Weekly Wednesday updates and have missed them. They were so helpful in many ways, especially when I was looking for something creative for the Older Adults I worked with as an Activities Director. However, following my calling, I am now a Gerontologist and am serving Older Adults in a different manner. Congratulations for trusting your inner self and knowing where God is leading you. Have a Blessed Christmas.

  260. Katherine From Troy, Michigan says:

Sure will miss you. I have enjoyed using MANY of your tips and craft ideas with my grandchildren over the years. Enjoy life!

You have worked so hard, provided so much for all us. You must do what you are led to do and we a blessed to have all of the information and ideas we have gleaned. Rest and enjoy life. Thank you.

  262. Nancy says:

I will definitely miss the updates. I really looked forward to all the great tips and crafty ideas every week. However, I can understand all the work that must be involved and the annoyances. It’s good to step back when it becomes ‘not fun anymore’. I look forward to your new design and perhaps with that, new ideas. I have to say that this was one blog I really looked forward to because I knew there would always be something new and interesting for me to save for reference. As Velia said, when you are ready,I will be waiting with open arms. Relax and enjoy your Christmas. God bless you.

  263. Maggie says:

I ,and so many of my friends and family will miss you until you return and I do have a feeling you will return ,when it is right for you. So many have said ,”do what is right for you and your family” ,I could not agree more.
If someone, other than a loved one, has interferred with your work, remember Karma can be a bitch. Get your mojo back and make something good happen. You matter! You make a difference ! You have helped many of us through some difficult times econmically and even had some fun learning new things along the way.

  264. Carolin says:

Thanks so much for all the work you done to maintain this site. You did (still doing) a great job. I really liked all the sewing/knitting/crocheting ideas for babys and kids.

    All the best.

  265. Karen says:

It is SO very sad to read that you will not be sending out your Wed. mailings. :( It had become one of my favorite things to read on the computer! But I also understand you need time to regroup and live your life. I have just a small mailing list compared to yours, and I share stuff on it, variety of things. Mostly spiritual, Native American. And I know how time consuming it is.
You take care….Thank you for ALL you share. Prayers going up for you…
    Peace & Love,
    Karen

  266. Holly Stever says:

Although I always read and use your weekly blogs, I’ve never commented, but now feel I want to you know that there are probably many like me who have never taken the time to express our gratitude for all that you have done. Bad apples can really take the wind out of your sails. Hopefully, some time away will make you want to return, and feel happy about it again (no pressure!). Maybe a scaled down schedule, like every 2 weeks or once a month. Most of all, follow your heart. Just want you to know that you are appreciated and will be missed. Enjoy some much deserved rest, friend.

  267. karyn patrick says:

Oh, Darn and Disaster… another one bites the dust :(
I have noticed that there are a lot of bloggers that are getting a little tired in the run of things, and sometimes even more than that.
I can fully relate with your desire to get some priorities straight and take a little breather.
But I must say – I will miss you. I will come here, for good advice and good ideas, because that what this database/site is for – but I loved and looked forward, every week, to the little surprises you highlighted (especially for me,ofcourse, lol) and your little chat at the start of it.
Yo have the skills as a writer, and certainly the warm personality, to make me feel like a special acquantance of yours, who you would surprise with nice tips and tricks. I guess all readers feel like that, and that is a great credit to you.
So- I do hope we’ll be able to read more of you, somewhere, some how, and that your literary qualities are not to be lost.
Lots of love, and great grattitude for all you have given me, and leave behind for us!

  300. Isabella says:

Thank You for all you have done for this site. I honestly looked forward to it every Wednesday. Couldn’t wait to open it up to find new goodies to make. Your ideas and tips have filled my head with so many ideas. If only I had the time and resources to try all of them.

You have been my light on so many times when I needed to get away from it all. Thank you does not seem sufficient for all the joy and illumination you have provided.

  318. Keri says:

After tossing the idea about to create my own site where I could house all my “go to” information, I was overjoyed to find TipNut! It was exactly like what I would have wanted to make if I had the time. You had everything all in order and organized. Wonderful! Sadly, this was just last week. Now I am going to miss your updates. But as a mom, I understand family and joy in your work must come first. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
    Keri

  319. Mel says:

Your site is a great resource and I will continue to use what is there. It is invaluable for those of us who can’t always find this information alone. Best wishes for your future.

  320. Mikki says:

What you have compiled here is an awesome and amazing site. I can’t even imagine how much of your time and talent you have invested in it.
It’s totally understandable that you would want to take some time away. I’m amazed you didn’t reach this point earlier.
Whatever you ultimately decide, I’m sure it’s what will be what is best for you and your family and that’s as it should be. Glad the resource will still be available. I’ve enjoyed it so much. All the best to you!

    Hi!

I use your site for about a year and a half now, it’s just part of my ritual… here I found out lots of useful stuff… I’m sorry you have to go, but I would be glad if you would keep the site on the Internet without deleting anything. I’m just not sure I’ll be able to copy THE WHOLE site to keep every little thing that’s important to me… and, there are lots of people that will agree with me, some stuff we just can’t remember and it’s good to know that we have a source to look at it whenever we need.
So, take care of yourself and your family, and please leave us a page
    Hugs

  347. MaryAnne says:

    I’m devastated. Totally devastated.
And..and..and.. I don’t understand, you say you’re going to delete your weekly postings? So… it’ll be like Tip Nut never existed? There have been few journalist greats: Emily Post, Ann Landers and her twin Dear Abbie, the legendary Erma Bombeck and now Tip Nut!!! I’ve lost you all!

I just can’t be generous like your other fans and “understand”. At least not right now. Maybe later. I have to go cry now.

    • Tipnut says:

Hi MaryAnne, please do not worry…the tips, tutorials, recipes and craft project collections will stay online and not be deleted. Just the old Wednesday newsletters will be deleted. The site will stay up and running for many years, the info waiting for you as you need it :) .

      • Teresa G says:

So, does that mean that all of the links you shared in the emails will still be available somewhere on Tipnut, it’s just that you won’t have the one page full of links anymore? January has been really crazy for me and I just realized it’s almost the end of the month and I haven’t saved a thing from the email newsletters! Woe is me.

Thanks for everything! Your weekly emails were always a highlight for the week!

It sounds like you made a decision that was a long time coming. Everyone has to step back sometime and evaluate the direction thier life if taking. The smart ones pay attention and do what needs to be done to nuture and care for themselves and those they love and who depend on them. Not a easy step but in order to grow sometimes we have to stop and listen to our hearts and then decide where next?

  369. Joanna says:

Oh no! Like everyone else seems to have said, I will miss the weekly updates so much, but of course your happiness comes first (and keeping sane!) ;)

Tipnut was the first website if its kind that I discovered when I first started crafting about two years ago and it totally blew me away! I felt like I had met a new friend! And still now, no other blog can beat it in my eyes.

I hope you decide to come back to us at some point when the time is good for you.

Best wishes from the North East of England

Though a fairly recent subscriber,I have thoroughly enjoyed your site.
however, there is ‘a time and a season for everything’ and you have to be true to the Inner Voice within guiding and leading you.

All things work for the good…….

  385. Lynn says:

I too will miss the Wednesday update, but I also believe family always comes first…

  386. Cindy says:

I have thoroughly enjoyed your work with Tipnut, I haven’t had the privilege of being a long-time viewer but really have appreciated the info, insight and enthusiasm. You have contributed to my renewed love of DIY and my recent acquisition of crochet skills. My Family and Consumer Sciences class has used pattern ideas you’ve located as well. I wish you all the best and that you feel refreshed and a new vigor for what lies ahead for you.

  387. Odie says:

I am so sorry to hear that the difficulties (whatever they may be) continue. First and foremost, you must take care of your own wellbeing (physical, mental and spiritual) so that you can then focus on your family. Thank you for all of the great information and ideas. It always felt like I was talking to a friend and chatting over coffee (sometimes it was with a glass of wine after a hard day). I wish you all the best and will hope for the return of your wonderful site.
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas to you and yours. (from Texas)

  390. Brandy says:

    Dear Friend!
So,So have enjoyed our time together, but alas “all good things must come to pass”….
Your site reminded me so much of the old “Workbasket” booklets that my “elders” used to covet as they were gold or silver. As I do by the way when I happen upon them at garage/yard/antique sales!
You truly have been a valued friend & I will watch desperately for your possible return! However, family & self ALWAYS comes FIRST and NO apologies are needed!
GOD BLESS, Merry CHRISTmas and a VERY,VERY Blessed New Year!!!
    Til we meet again,
    Brandy

  394. Melissa says:

Your weekly tips will be missed but one must follow ones heart. If you do not you will regret it in the long run. Who knows, maybe by leaving it might open your eyes to new and bigger and better ideas for this or another site? Good luck and have peace in your decisions :)

  396. Wanda says:

Ever since I found your website on line, I’ve saved every one of the TIPNUT’s ever published. I’ll miss seeing great updates, but I agree with you, there is a time when you have to take some time to smell the roses and enjoy family.

To my “invisible friend in a box”,
It has obviously been said by a lot of people (judging by the comments ahead of me) but THANK YOU for all of the time and effort you have put into this website over the years. I have been a follower for quite some time now and I will miss my weekly updates/fixes. But you need to do what is right for you and your family. I hope all of the comments make you realise how much people have appreciated your efforts, not to change your mind but so you can feel warm and valued for the time and effort you have given. I have learned loads from Tipnut over the years… so many projects, techniques etc and have even begun new hobbies as a result of things I read on here. Thank you for enriching my life. Your place in it will be missed.

Best wishes always and particularly in the coming months as you embark and new adventures
    Tehrese

I have enjoyed browsing your web site for several years now; your site is about the only one I continue to come back to on a regular basis. I have always respected your attitude toward others and the way in which you have chosen to share information.

I will miss your updates, but still love the site and all the info you have provided. My baby sister sent me the link to you site two or three years ago and I have truly enjoyed every tip I have read and researched in your pages. You have brought home and craft blogging to to such heights that it is hard to imagine Wednesdays without you updates. Time speeds ever onward and you do need the time and space to take care of yourself and your loved ones. Take care and all my best wishes are sent to you and your family. Diane

I have subscribed to the weekly newsletter for quite some time and have found the information and links to be invaluable. I will definitely miss your efforts but I know from experience that nothing ever stays the same and things in life do change constantly. It’s better to step back and take a break than to burn yourself out completely even though we will miss you terribly. Thank you for all the work you have done over the years to help your readers find tips and tricks they can use! There’s no other website quite like it!

  411. Pat says:

Tipnut has been my favorite ‘go to’ site for helpful and clever information since I found this site last year. 418. Karen says:

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can permanently save/keep my weekly updates? I have been saving them in an email folder and I know I can’t keep them active after the end of January.

I tried the suggestions of one reader in a previous email on how to try to save them, but it wasn’t working for me. I have an older computer and version of MS Word, so I don’t know if that would be a problem. Thank you in advance!

  419. Susan says:

I feel like I am losing a best friend…It is so sad not to receive your Wednesday emails, but you are right, you and family must come first. Your site is by far the best on the net and the first place I go when I need something – whether craft idea, recipe or helpful tips. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors, hopefully we will see you in our mailboxes someday soon. I am having problem saving (bookmarking) your weekly updates, but hopefully I will figure that out soon before you delete them forever, Thankfully your site will still be available. Sending friendly hugs your way — All the best
