Don't know if this is anywhere in there, but if you want to survive financially in a depression, here are a couple of steps.
1. get yourself a $1000 savings fund, do it fast and now.
2. pay off your credit cards as soon as you can, you'd be surprised how much money you spend on junk every month, and then you have to pay interest on it because you bought it with credit, then cut those cards up.
Do just these 2 and you'll surprised how "loose" your financial "belt" is when everyone else is "tightening".

I already practice most of Frugal Dad's suggestions, and one thing I've done when it comes to my dogs is to buy two bags of food, one of the prefered brand and one of something like "Old Roy", and pour both at the same time into the bin so they mix. Then your pup gets enough and you can save a little! Look into feed store brands also, read label's. After all, they are family, right?
