Here’s an assortment of back-to-school bags to make for both young and old using a variety of fabrics and supplies. Many are simple styles that can easily be adjusted in size to suit your needs. All but one of the tutorials are for sewing (there is a crochet pattern in the bunch) with many suited for beginner sewing skills (you’ll also find a few that are more advanced and feature rich). Mini Rucksack : Features two back straps and top handle for easy toting, foldover top flap with drawstring closure.
Petite Pack : Lovely bag in a simple design, features an interior pocket and adjustable shoulder straps.
With Bias Tape Straps : Canvas lined bag with two pockets and fabric bias tape straps.
String Backpack How-To : Whip up this easy bag with fabric, cord, fusible interfacing and grommet hardware.
Penguin : Zippered bag with padded straps, free pattern piece download provided.
Drawstring Napsack Tutorial : Easy bag with fabric straps for carrying and bag closure, features an outer pocket.
With Front Ties : Finished size measures 16″ x 14″ x 5″, bag is lined and features two front straps that tie the bag closed.
Bitty Boy : Features padded shoulder straps and fol dover top flap (button closure), inner bag has drawstring closure.
Cross-Body : Waterproof bag with a single cross-body strap, free pattern pieces available to download.
Toddler : Made with upholstery fabrics or samples, bag is roomy with button on shoulder straps. Finished size measures 12″ x 8.5″ x 3.5″.
Retro-Style : Ideal for preschoolers and toddlers, features an elastic and button closure that’s easy for small fingers to manage.
Dora’s : Made with fleece, lining fabric and interfacing, has outer pockets to stash little treasures.
