15+ Women’s Belt Making Tutorials: Crafty Style

Create that perfect fitting belt in just the right color and texture with these easy tutorials. Whether you’re looking for something casual, something frilly or maybe something that screams “fashionista”, you should find an idea or two here to work with. Most are sewing projects though a few just require some simple stitches to attach D-rings and finish off ends. I found a couple crochet patterns that I tucked in at the bottom of the page as well as an interesting tutorial for making a belt out of metal can tabs and nylon cording. As always, I’ll be adding to this collection as I find new goodies. Enjoy!

Lace Covered Faux Leather [1]: (sewing project) Made with faux leather or vinyl, satin ribbon, pretty lace, a leather punch and fray check.

Wide Fabric Wrap [2]: A patternless Japanese-inspired wrap with a twist. Made with 45″ wide fabric and Fusi-Knit fusible tricot.

Grosgrain & Fabric Flowers [3]: One size fits most, all you need is pretty ribbon, a couple “D” rings and 1 to 2 silk flowers (you can find a bunch of fabric flowers to make on this page [4]).

Plaid Fabric [5]: Make it in 30 minutes! Best results with a mid-weight soft/drapable fabric like wool or flannel. You’ll also need a lucite buck and thread.

Fabric Wrap [6]: Band wraps around your waist and decorative ribbon can be used for the narrow center strap. Best results with upholstery weight fabric.

Haberdashery Belt [7]: A stylish “vest-style” design made with fashion fabric, fusible interfacing and covered buttons. Grid pattern image file available to download (free).

DIY Ruffly Design [8]: Easy project made with quality ribbon and mixed pieces of silks and tulle (or other lightweight fabrics).

Braided [9]: Strips from an old t-shirt are braided together, ends sewn and D-rings attached.

Girdy Belt Tutorial [10]: Made with faux leather, lightweight contrasting fabric and ribbon or lace.

Patchwork [11]: Great stashbuster! Sew two patchwork strips, sew batting between layers and attach D-rings.

Bow [12]: Made with three strips of fabric, interfacing. Has eyes & hooks at the front for closure (hidden by the bow).

Braided Rope & Cording [13]: Materials needed are a dozen yards (each) of leather cording, rope and a buckle.

Velvet Ribbon [14]: Super easy project using 2 1/2 yards of velvet ribbon, iron-on fuse tape and two D-rings.

Faux-Leather Bow [15]: Materials needed are lightweight faux leather, a pronged belt buckle and E6000 glue (or heavy-duty adhesive).

Blooming [16]: Flower petals are cut from painted canvas then attached to a simple fabric sash that wraps around waist two times.

Jersey Knit With Recycle Leather [17]: Nice & stretchy belt made with repurposed jersey knit and leather, buttons at the front.
