Blog Update: Tipnut’s Spring Cleaning
I’ll be cleaning things up here on Tipnut over the next few weeks and I’d like to give you notice of the upcoming changes:
- Three new categories will be added: DIY Projects, Inspiration & Popular Tips. I’ll be moving the applicable past tips and projects in these categories. This won’t affect your bookmarks at all, they’ll just be filed differently.
- New sub-categories will be created: Probably just in the Crafts category to better organize the projects (knitting, crochet, embroidery, etc.). You’ll still find everything listed by date in the Crafts category, but if you’d like to just review the knitting projects (for example), this addition will make it easier for you to do so. Again, your bookmarks will not be affected–the posts will just be filed differently.
- Some tips are filed in categories they really don’t apply to (not sure what I was thinking about at the time of publishing) but the tips will be better organized soon. One of my goals with Tipnut is to have a nice, organized place to keep and share all the good tips and ideas I’ve accumulated and found elsewhere–I don’t think I’ve done a great job on the organization part so I hope to remedy that.
- There are several dozen tips that will be removed (posts deleted) but they will be combined with similar tips or new posts will be created to combine smaller tips. Nothing will be lost, just moved to a different page. If you’ve bookmarked a favorite tip that will be moved, have no fear! I’ll make sure to automatically forward those tips to the new page so you won’t lose track of them. This mainly applies to the small Quick Tips from the past. You will not lose track of your favorites or have to worry about updating bookmarks on your end.
- I’ll also be adding images and updating the formatting on some pages, the older posts especially. I may also update or clarify instructions or titles a bit as well as update links pointing to tips that were moved.
- I’ll be checking all links pointing to tips and projects on other websites. If the links are no longer good, I’ll try to find the original website’s new link, a substitute, or remove the post altogether since it no longer serves a purpose.
Tipnut’s current publishing schedule is one new tip in the morning and one new feature tip in the afternoon (during weekdays) and one post full of goodies on Saturdays. I’ll continue with that schedule, however there may be one or two extra posts a day (over the next few weeks) while I create new pages to gather the deleted files.
I hope the updates won’t be too much interruption for you, but this will give you an opportunity to revisit some goodies that you may have forgotten about or discover tips that are new to you. If some tips are deleted and combined with a different tip page, I’ll have an update once a week (on Saturdays) listing the changes I made during the previous week.
I hope the Spring cleanup will help make tips easier to find and provide a better experience for you while browsing Tipnut. This will take me a few weeks to accomplish, I hope you won’t be too disturbed while I cleanup and hopefully make things better for everyone :).
