Box Of Groceries For Just $30 A Month - Resource
Today’s feature is from The Budget Casa with a tip for U.S. readers (not available in other countries at this time)–Angel Food Ministries: Budget Grocery Tip:
We’re all looking for ways to save on our food budgets. So when we heard about Angel Food Ministries, which offers enough food to feed two people for nearly an entire month for just $30, we were anxious to try it out.
The program offers a variety of meat, vegetables and other foods for about a dollar a day. Each month’s menu changes, and can include fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables, several meats and vegetables, and other foods.
Visit Budget Casa for more details and a list of what was on the menu for June. This program is unique for a few reasons:
- Everyone qualifies to participate in the program, it’s not welfare and there are no applications or qualifications to order Angel Food.
- The food items are restaurant grade meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.
- There is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, if you need more food (say for a family of 5), you can buy more.
- The menu for Angel Food varies from month to month, you pre-order the amount of units (or boxes) you need then pick up your groceries at a local host site.
You can check out the Angel Food Network here:
Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.
This might be something you’d like to try for yourself or pass the info along to someone you know who could definitely make use of this. You could also put the wheels in motion to organize a local host site in your area, details are on the website.

These foods from Angelfood minisries are grade A meats and really make a big difference in your budget. I’m so glad someone cares enough in our area to do this. It really helps those who need help.

What a wonderful idea. I know how hard it is to feed myself on much more than that - good for them for helping those in need stretch their buck far!

I have participated in this program in two states for more than a year. A friend who lives in another city told us about it, so we looked up our local distribution center and we now recommend it to everyone. There is nothing in the boxes that we can’t use. We adjust the menu around what is in the box. We also get boxes and share them with our single children who live seperately.
This program is real with no strings.
Last evening we grilled two kinds of steak with friends. One kind was from this month and one from last month.

Here in Southern Ontario there is also something called a “Good Food Box”. This program offers a bag of produce purchased in bulk monthly for a reasonable cost. Some local programs even offer delivery. Google Good Food Box in your local area for a program near you. I volunteer for 2 of these programs in the Hamilton/Burlington Area and am always impressed with the variety and quality of the produce we receive.
