The site says:

"SIGNATURE BOX
Balanced nutrition and variety with enough food to feed a family of four for a week."

So really it will feed two people for half a month not "...nearly an entire month..." as stated in your article.

I've been using Angel Food for a few months now and have been very happy with the results. Several friends and coworkers have also started using Angel Food to help feed their families.

By the way, Angel Food Ministries announced that starting with August 2009 orders, there is no stipulation requiring you to buy a standard box (this came in 3 choices including a mixed box of meats, veg, rice and dairy; a microwave dinner box; and an allergen free box) before being able to buy the special boxes (these tend to be all meat or all veg boxes).

This will make a huge difference in how much Angel Food I purchase each month since I can pick boxes of things my picky household will eat without wasting foods we won't. Though we have been trading or giving away items to others that we are less fond of which works too.

In February 2009, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that a suit is underway filed by two of the board members of Angel Food ministry against the owner's. The links are now 'broken' to Angel Food ministry, but I am not aware whether or not the organization is still in operation or not.

Here in Southern Ontario there is also something called a "Good Food Box". This program offers a bag of produce purchased in bulk monthly for a reasonable cost. Some local programs even offer delivery. Google Good Food Box in your local area for a program near you. I volunteer for 2 of these programs in the Hamilton/Burlington Area and am always impressed with the variety and quality of the produce we receive.

I have participated in this program in two states for more than a year. A friend who lives in another city told us about it, so we looked up our local distribution center and we now recommend it to everyone. There is nothing in the boxes that we can't use. We adjust the menu around what is in the box. We also get boxes and share them with our single children who live seperately.
This program is real with no strings.
Last evening we grilled two kinds of steak with friends. One kind was from this month and one from last month.

What a wonderful idea. I know how hard it is to feed myself on much more than that - good for them for helping those in need stretch their buck far!

These foods from Angelfood minisries are grade A meats and really make a big difference in your budget. I'm so glad someone cares enough in our area to do this. It really helps those who need help.
