VintageThis month’s vintage pattern freebie is from the 1940s or 1950s and has a sweet embroidery design for every day of the week (7 in total) with each featuring a charming “bee” couple performing a certain task for the day.

Each motif has a wise piece of advice or goal such as “Thrifty”, “Tidy”, “Tasty”, etc., and are intended to be used on dish towels. You’ll also find three additional designs that are suitable for pot holders (does not include directions for making the pot holders).

The free file downloads are found at the bottom of the page but first, here are the original pattern details…

These busy little bees will make any housewife smile–one for each day of the week and amusing pot holders to match.

They’ll make a big hit as a shower gift–and in your own kitchen everyone from Junior to Grandma will “Bee glad” to help wipe the dishes!

Suggested Materials: Linen, cotton or cotton rayon and linen-mixture towelling is available by the yard or in finished towels with a variety of colorful striped edges–so pick the one you like best and have fun embroidering these amusing motifs in your choice of thread colors.

Colors: The modern housewife likes a cheerful kitchen and these busy bees will blend with any chosen color scheme. If the kitchen is in pink, use bright pink in place of the red–otherwise follow the color guide as seen on the cover below…

Hmm are you saving the file to your computer first, then opening the file and printing from that? Or is the problem the pages are printing blank?

    • Janis Harkins says:

After to saving to your desktop, open it from there. Go to File, Print Preview. At the top may be a “Shrink to Fit” heading. Click on that pull-down menu and hit 30%. It’s then the right size. Hope it works for you!

I made these for my new mother-in-law in 1971. She love the little bees. She died last year, and we found one towel that she was still using. That was 40 years ago that I made those towels.

  7. Heidi says:

We embroidered sets of these tea towels and pot holders when I was little girl. I still have a set. We tore apart sugar bags for the tea towel material.
    Great memories.

  8. Corinnea Davis says:

Love embroidering tea towels, to date, I’ve done 48 sets in two years. I love the patterns that you offer and am eagerly awaiting the newest set.

  9. Terri Nathan says:
