Are your kitchen cabinets a little tired or outdated but you don’t have the extra cash on hand to update them? Here are several different ideas for freshening up the space using items such as paint, bead board and decorative molding. I’ve also added a few tutorials for decorative finishes (crown molding, decorative feet and lighting). I’ll be adding more how-to’s to this collection as I find them, enjoy!

Ideas For Cabinet Door Inserts: Cut out old wooden door panels and install new materials like metal, glass or fabric.

Remove Doors For Open Shelving: If you prefer no doors at all, here’s how to remove them and repair the holes and nics they left behind.

Cabinet Cutouts: If you want framed glass doors but don’t have a center panel to remove, here’s how to make them cutting your old doors with a jig saw.

Painted & Distressed Edges: Surfaces are sanded, painted with two coats of primer, paint then edges distressed with a sander. Tinted glaze and a clear coat of Polyacrylic are done last.

Bead Board Doors: Custom cut pieces of bead board are fit inside the center panel of the old doors then painted. Distress edges if you wish.

Beadboard With Decorative Moldings: Old doors are cleaned and sanded then beadboard glued to the center panel (using liquid nails), finished off with decorative molding and paint.

How To Paint Cabinets: If the other projects above are a bit too much for you, try freshening up the cupboards with a bit of paint and new hardware.

How To Add Crown Molding: Hate the space on top of the cabinets? Extend them to the ceiling by adding crown molding at the top.

Install Under-Cabinet Lighting: Learn how to properly install low voltage lights under cabinets in your home kitchen (video tutorial just over 4 minutes). These are not hard-wired (the power supply plugs into the wall).

Add Fancy Feet: Add feet to cabinets using a few scraps of plywood, some screws and a bit of paint. Free printable template provided.

Add Molding: A quick video tutorial showing you how to add molding to the face of plain cabinet doors.
