The wisenheimers among us might say the best way to save money on cleaning supplies is not to clean. That, however, is not an option. You can be broke and clean. (Just ask any depression-era housekeeper.) In an effort to embrace those wise and frugal practices, here’s 14 little ways to save big bucks on cleaning day.
Some of the suggestions (I’ve included some options listed here on Tipnut):

After Ike, I did some laundry in the tub, then line dried it, and boy were the clothes stiff. So I remember reading about hair conditioner, and used Suave conditioner, then an extra rinse to get rid of the excess conditioner. It made a huge difference, plus smelled very nice.
I have shag carpeting – don’t laugh, I really do!!! and it is pure hell to clean; vacuum cleaners do not do a thorough enough job, and I finally got so desperate I’ve resorted to cleaning it by spraying it lightly with water, then using a broom to clean up the dust bunnies that come up….does ANYONE have any ideas on another way to clean this darn shag carpeting?? I am at my wits’ end…..and no, there’s no prospect of my landlord ever replacing it!!
