Covered Kitchen Cabinets: DIY Project

Picture of Covered Kitchen Cabinets [treschicveronique.blogspot.com] - Tipnut.com
Today’s feature is a DIY project from Tres Chic Veronique with The Kitchen Cabinet Project:

I have never received so many questions about a crafty project as I have with the Kitchen Cabinet Project! As fancy as I may make it sound, it’s actually quite simple. So simple, in fact, that there is not a single online tutorial… *light bulb*

Here’s an illustrated explanation of what I did (aka A Super Easy Tute):

The cabinet doors are covered with fabric using thumbtacks to secure (on the back) then scotchguarded for easier cleaning. Neat project! Please visit the site for complete details and lots of pictures.

Found via Whip Up, the comments section here offers another tip: use oilcloth for easy cleanup. The fabric does have me concerned (even with scotchguard), but oilcloth would wash up nicely I think.

Thanks for featuring me on your site!
I actually thought of using oilcloth, but it was somewhat pricey… And I’d already purchased the yellow fabric and was dying to make something with it :)

How interesting. Thank you for this wonderful tip. I found a store that sold upholstery materials on bolts and left overs. The prices are absolutely cheap and you can buy heavy drapery materials as well. The bolts are very wide and
you can either use staples, tacks, glue gun etc. My kitchen cabinets are very old and when I moved into this house 8 years ago I sanded them down with a $11 sander from Big Lots stained and polyurethaned them. They are beautiful to me.
Now this winter two of the doors were giving me trouble so I took them down.
Bought me some wide material and made me curtains for them with little spring rods. I have had more compliments on them and all I have to do is wash them seasonally. I might use your great idea to change the doors and put them back up this summer. GREAT IDEA !!

I covered all my kitchen cupboards with some old plastic wall paper. It made a world of difference as I live in an older modular home. I had to staple them on the inside because the spray glue did not hold tight but it made a big difference. I would like to send a picture if possible.
