Deodorizing Musty Books
Today’s feature is from Keeping The Castle with the tip: Deodorizing Musty Books:
Place the book in an airtight container. Fill the container with either baking soda or cat litter. Leave the book/s and filler in the container for a few days.
This is a great tip that works. I have a big rubbermaid tub filled a few inches deep with cat litter (clean) that has strings of yarn tied securely around the whole tub, then open old books and magazines and “hang” them on the yarn strings (the yarn acts like a clothesline). Then I seal the tub with the lid (the yarn is thin enough that it doesn’t affect the lid closing). I usually leave the items in the tub for a few weeks and they come out fine.

Has anyone tried this with books that smell of years of tobacco?
I’d try it Betsy, you may find that the books need to be stored away longer though.
