DIY Dirt Cheap Wall-Sized Whiteboards
Today’s feature project is from ChrisMetcalf.net with instructions for DIY Dirt Cheap Wall-Sized Whiteboards:
Fortunately, the same material that they make most commercial whiteboards out of is available at most big-box lumber stores like Home Depot for less than $15. “Showerboard”, which is basically cheap plywood with a waterproof white plastic coating on one side. Its the same stuff that they make cheap showers out of - four walls of showerboard plus a cheap plastic base makes a decent stall. It also makes a great whiteboard.
Some showerboard, cheap plywood sheeting and liquid nails are all you need for this project. Make sure to note the update at the beginning of the post, if the whiteboard isn’t fastened directly to the wall, it could warp in humid weather. There’s this tip in the comment section to do that:
I skipped the plywood backing, and made a wood frame (painted it black) to mount the tileboard in, then just hang it like a picture frame.
Another tip from the comment section:
- To remove permanent marker from a whiteboard, use some gel hand sanitizer. Another tip suggests coloring over the permanent marker with a whiteboard marker, then erasing. It erases the permanent marker too.
This is an old project bookmark I had filed away, but it seemed like a sure thing that Lifehacker introduced me to, double checked and there it is. Check out the comment section over there too for more input and ideas.

Rubbing alcohol, which is a large component of hand sanitizer and waaaaay cheaper, cleans a whiteboard remarkably well.
Heh, and I made a pun… re”mark”ably.
