Transform An Old Dresser Into Something Lovely: {DIY}

You can pick up old dressers from garage sales and thrift stores that are pretty banged up but inexpensive to buy, or maybe you have an old piece or two stashed away just waiting to be freshened up. Here are several different ideas you can try to make them look like brand new designer pieces. Many of the projects are super simple to pull off and involve just a bit of paint while others add a bit of wood trim or other elements that really make the furniture pop. I think they’re all fabulous and well done, have fun!

DIY Chevron Trim ^[1]: Wood trim (casement mouldings) is added to a dresser with flat-front panels in a chevron pattern then painted.

Creative Paint Design ^[2]: No woodworking skills or tools? Try this easy project that just requires a bit of paint.

Dorothy Draper Style ^[3]: Dresser is first painted black, stencil is applied then the design is painted.

Chain Link Design ^[4]: 12″ wreath forms (made of composite wood) and strips of lattice are glued to the dresser then the whole project primed and painted.

Painted Stripes ^[5]: Quick and easy project, there’s no detailed tutorial but easy enough to figure out. Recommends using frog tape for crisp & clean lines.

Dresser With Side Shelves ^[6]: Clever idea to attach Ikea spice rack bookshelves along each side of the dresser.

Mirror Front Drawers ^[7]: You’ll likely need to get the mirror cut into custom sizes by a professional (along with holes for the hardware), but this turned out nice!

DIY Caning ^[9]: This picture looks a little rough but here’s a nice way to spiffy things up, add a sheet of caning to the front of drawers with spray adhesive then paint.

Campaign Inspired ^[10]: Drawer fronts are painted with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy then flat L braces and nailheads are applied with Liquid Nails.

Mod Podge Drawer Fronts ^[12]: A combination of hand painted designs and printed graphics mod podged to the front of drawers is used to beautify this dresser.
