Vintage Embroidery Kitchen Towel Set: Tableware

Here is the latest vintage embroidery pattern series from my collection, each week I’ll upload one pattern from the set for you to add to your collection. This set is from 1940 and features six different designs of tableware to use on tea towels or whatever else you like. Here are the details from the pattern:

Vintage Embroidery Tableware Set

This pattern contains motifs to be worked in cross stitch and plain embroidery to be used on kitchen towels. Linen or some other toweling should be used for towels, and six strand cotton for embroidery. The motifs are to be done in a variety of colors or shades of one color and black.

Material Requirements:

  • One Towel: 1 yard of 16 or 18 inch material
  • Six strand cotton in each color to be used

Embroidery: Follow Color Suggestions and work continuous lines, outline stitch; broken lines, running stitch; crosses, cross stitch; loops, lazy daisy stitch; dots, French knots or fine satin stitch.

Color Suggestions: Work in three shades of one color making crosses in a deep shade; running stitch on glasses, a light shade; leaves, stems and French knots, medium shade; flowers, light shade; or work crosses in predominating color of kitchen; running stitch on glasses, lighter shade of same color or a color to contrast; flowers, shades of various bright colors; centers, black, brown or yellow; leaves and stems, green.

Printing Instructions:

  • Save the pattern to your desktop first (right click, save as…), open the file, select “Print”, uncheck anything like “Maintain Aspect Ratio” and “Fit To Page” then print.
  • These will all fit on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of paper.

Transferring The Pattern:

Please Note:

The original patterns were printed “backwards” or “mirrored” because you had to lay them face down then iron onto fabric, this time I flipped the patterns since most would be tracing over top.
