New Cross Stitch Embroidery Series: Gingham Flowers
Here is the latest freebie set of vintage cross stitch and embroidery patterns that will be shared on Tipnut, I’ve chosen a really nice series that is perfect for Spring & Summer projects: Gingham Flowers (1950s).
This is a mail order set from Laura Wheeler, Pattern Number 822, and they’re perfect for tea towels (see these flour sack tea towel tips).
This is from the same design series as the Gingham Fruit and they are favorites of mine!
The pattern copies cleaned up so much better this time and they print up nicely, I finally figured out how to manage these graphics a bit better! I tested the print copy sizes to make sure they are exactly the same size as the original (just like previously). I also had time to clean up the Gingham Fruit series, the other patterns will be done at a later time.
Now the pattern details (from the original copy):
Gingham Flower Tea Towel Designs
This pattern contains six “Flower” Motifs to be used on Kitchen Towels. Plain gingham, muslin or linen toweling is suitable to use. Work the embroidery in a variety of colors, using six-strand cotton.
Material Requirements:
- 3/4 yard or 1 yard of 18″ material for each towel
- six-strand embroidery cotton in each color to be used
Placing Motifs:
Center one motif on one end of each towel about 2″ above hem.
Embroidery:
Split the six-strand cotton, and using 4 strands, work crosses in gingham cross stitch (see Detail); continuous lines in outline stitch.

Suggested Colors:
- Rose Motif: Work flowers in 2 shades of rose; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of blue.
- Daffodil Motif: Work flowers in yellow and orange; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of red.
- Crocus Motif: Work flowers in 2 shades of pink; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of yellow.
- Iris Motif: Work flowers in lavender and purple; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of blue.
- Poppy Motif: Work flowers in 2 shades of red; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of yellow.
- Tulip Motif: Work flowers in 2 shades of yellow; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of red.

Daffodil Motif: Work flowers in yellow and orange; leaves and stems in 2 shades of green; pot in 2 shades of red.

Printing Instructions: Make sure to save the pattern to your computer desktop first (right click, save as…), then open the file on your computer, select “Print”, uncheck anything like “Fit To Page” then print. These will all fit on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper.
