Green Goddess Dressing – Recipe
According to Wikipedia, Green Goddess Dressing was possibly the most popular dressing before Ranch dressing was invented. Here’s the recipe I have for it from an old community cookbook:
Green Goddess Dressing
Ingredients:
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
3 TBS tarragon vinegar
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 clove garlic, crushed fine
2 TBS parsley
1 TBS lemon juice
salt and freshly grated pepper to taste
Directions:
- Beat for 20 seconds in the blender. Chill for at least 1/2 hour before serving.

There must be something in the air-I was just searching for a recipe last week, and then I found a bottle of it at Super Wal-mart! Tastes just as yummy as I remembered. It reminds me of almost a caesar-y ranch…
Green Goddess sounds delicious, but with all that cream (heavy and sour) it’s probably full of calories. Has anyone tried to make a lighter version? Does it taste good?
Why is it called Green Goddess? It sounds like it’s white.
Some recipes load up with green onions, chives and fresh tarragon. This one is more simple but the 2 TBS parsley will bring some green to the dressing.
Wendy I haven’t tried it with low-cal mayo or cream, but I’m sure it would be fine.
