How To Personalize Your Comments
- Add A Picture: You can customize the picture that displays by your name by creating a free account at gravatar.com. The neat thing about this service is that it will work for every website that has gravatars enabled (not just on Tipnut).
- Link To Your Blog Or Website: Please include your blog or website link, other readers may like to check it out. Just be sure to add that in the “Website” field and not within the comment area.
Privacy
- Email Address: Your email is requested on the comment form as a measure to prevent spam bots from flooding the comments area. Your email is not publicized (if you add it to the “Email” field only, don’t add it in the “Name” or “Website” fields or it will appear), I do respect your privacy and have a Privacy Policy that clearly states your email will not be sold.
Why Are Comments Moderated?
I setup full moderation after I had to use my break time at work to run home and delete several comments that left offensive adult material in the comments area (we’re not allowed to use the internet at work to manage our blogs). I don’t know why people think it’s a great idea to spam blogs with those kinds of comments, but I had to do something to prevent that from happening and the spam filters weren’t able to stop everything.
Common Reasons Why A Comment Doesn’t Appear
- If you included a link in the comment area (to a product, service or other blog), these are filtered automatically to be deleted. This was setup several months ago, the amount of comment spam I received daily left me no choice.
- If you’re including a link to your blog or website with your comment, you’re welcome to do so in the “Website” field of the comment form, please don’t add a second one within the comment area (like a signature). I likely won’t get a chance to moderate your comment since chances are it will be automatically filtered out since your comment contains a link.
- Please don’t leave your email address in the comments area asking me or a reader to email you back.
- If a comment is abusive towards another commenter or myself, it won’t be allowed on the blog. There are all kinds of ways to be informative or make corrections in a positive manner without attacking someone, please try.
