Homemade Dog Treat Recipe

Picture of Dog Begging For Treats - Tipnut.comIn our family the chicken livers do not get eaten. Here’s a recipe to use those up, just freeze them until you have enough (chicken livers are quite cheap to buy if you want to splurge on your pup).

Chicken Liver Treats: Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup chicken livers
2 cups oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1 TBS parsley

Directions:

  • Boil or saute livers until fully cooked. Set aside to cool.
  • Chop cooked livers into small pieces, then mix with rest of ingredients.
  • Drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheet and bake at 250 degrees for 45 minutes. Keep refrigerated.

*If too dry, add a bit of water or another egg until recipe binds together. You could also use beef liver instead of chicken.

My dog would run away from home and come live with you for that treat. You are too cool to cook for your dog.

I used to buy frozen horsemeat for my dogs and cook it, but as a vegetarian, I could not stand the thought of a ground up horse. LOL

    I am a fellow PPPer.

I haven’t made treats for my dog in ages, but I think dogs love anything you give them to eat. I couldn’t cook horsemeat either!

Sorry, I can’t make out what you mean by fellow PPPer?

    I’m using chicken heads.
I boil it until tender and before serving it to my dog i always see to it that i have removed the beak…

i always cook a batch that would last for a week… and just put it in the ref.

My babies (Penelope and Cue ) Love Boiled Eggs. You may want to try those as well !

  7. Do the dog treats, particularly those that use meat, need to be refrigerated after they’re cooked? If not, how long do they stay good? I’d hate to give my dogs food poisoning if the meat went “off” in the biscuits!

    • TipNut says:

Yes, I do have a note to keep these refrigerated (last point in the directions). There are some homemade dog treats that use preservatives so refrigeration isn’t necessary, but this recipe has meat & eggs so I would refrigerate them.
