Homemade Lavender Starch Recipe
Today’s feature blog is Storybook Woods and the tip: Lavender Linen Starch:
So I looked around the internet, played with some recipes and came up with this one. I was thinking how a bottle of this and a bottel of Linen water would make a lovely gift. You could use any essential oil. I just like to use lavender.
The recipe:
Lavender Linen Starch
Dissolve 1 tablespoon cornstarch in 1 pint cold water. Add 6 drops of lavender essential oil. Place in a spray bottle. Shake before using.
Fresh pressed linens, nicely starched, and lavender fragrance wafting in the air. Nice!

Does the oil in the lavender oil leave any sort of marks on the fabric? How would one make a scented water without oil?
Debby I didn’t have problems with marks at all, it could be that the essential oil is so well diluted with the water and that’s why. I know though that essential oils can mark fabrics if they’re full strength, or at least some of them can. The best bet would be to test first to get a good idea of what fabrics this would be fine with.
To scent the water without essential oil you could try an infusion, but I have no experience with that in relation to using it as fabric starch (ie. will it stain the fabric?) or what the fragrance strength would be. You can see this page for some basic info of what an infusion process involves: Homemade Herbal Bath Bag Recipes.
I hope that helps a bit
.
You can try adding in fabric softener or some Febreze.
