Homemade Vanilla Sugar Recipes
Following are three recipes to try for Vanilla Sugar. They each require storing the sugar in an airtight container, placed in a dark cupboard, and occasionally shaking or mixing the sugar.
Wait two weeks before using.
The vanilla sugar is good to use for up to one year.
Recipe #1:
1 Tahitian Vanilla Bean
1 1/1 cups sugar
- Split bean and remove seeds.
- Mix seeds well in sugar, then place the bean skins in sugar.
- Seal and store sugar as noted above.
Recipe #2:
1 Whole Vanilla Bean
2 cups sugar
- Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean into the sugar and stir in.
- Push the remaining bean skin down into the sugar.
- Store and seal the sugar as directed above.
- Remove the bean after 2 weeks.
Recipe #3:
1 Whole Vanilla Bean
3 cups Granulated Sugar
- Cut vanilla bean into 1″ pieces. Mix bean pieces into sugar, distributing well.
- Cover and store as directed above.
- Do not remove the beans.
Uses:
- Stir in your coffee or tea, you’ll be spoiled and not go back to regular sugar
- Use the sugar in cooking, baking and to sweeten beverages.
Give as Gifts:
Store the vanilla sugar in decorative glass jars and give as gifts with instructions how to use (in cooking, coffee, tea, etc.). You could also attach a tag or label giving the recipe so they can make themselves some more when they run out.
