Today’s feature blog post (with apologies to Tipnut’s vegan readers) is from Sugar Mountain Farm, What is a Half Pig Share:

Short answer:

About 23 pork chops from a half pig, 2 roasts, 1 fresh ham, 8 lbs of fresh bacon slab, 3 lbs of spare ribs, 9 lbs of ground pork, etc totaling about 75 lbs in the freezer for this half pig. That was a little on the high side. Most pigs are between 60 and 70 lbs for a half share. The chart above gives you a quick graphic view. Good info for us city folk who just never knew!

If you have family or friends on the farm that provide your meat, how lucky! But if not, you can find local area farmers that do sell beef, lamb, pork, chickens, even buffalo if you live in certain areas of the country. Very economical if you have the freezer space, even splitting a buy with another family works well.
