How to Build a $15 Compost Bin

Here are two different projects for making a compost bin…

Picture of Wood Pallet Compost Bin [thisgardenisillegal.com] - Tipnut.comThe first project is from This Garden Is Illegal (love the name!) with their tip on How To Build A $15 Shipping Pallet Compost Bin:

I need a good size bin to keep my compost in. The compost bin needs to be able to dissuade animals from getting at the food in the compost. The compost bin also has to have ventilation so the compost can get the air and water it needs to break down. And last, and most importantly, it needs to be cheap. That way I can spend more money on plants and flowers in the yard.

The solution is a shipping pallet compost bin. And that is what I am going to build today.

Great way to reuse a wood pallet!

How To Build A Compost Bin

The next project is from the University of Missouri with the instructions for How To Build A Compost Bin:

Compost can be made by five different methods: holding units, turning units, heaps, soil incorporation, and worm composting. The method of composting selected will depend on when finished compost is desired, the materials to be composted, and the space available for composting. Table 1 will help you select the best compost method for your particular situation.

There are several different types to choose from including how to make a worm composting bin (umm, ick!) and a great wealth of information included. Fantastic find if you’re looking to make one or learn more about composting!
