Hello Guys. I live in the Keys, and a friend of mine gave me three pineapple plants, from a construction site her fiance was working. I put mine in 3 separate, big bushel size plastic barrels, because that was all I had. She put hers in smaller planters, about a gallon size. When our pineapples formed, hers never got any bigger than a large pear. . . .mine got pretty close to full size, so the size of your planter container does count! Also the amount of water they get too. However, the size of the planter does NOT affect the taste or quality of the fruit of the pineapple! Sweet and delicious! Mine are on their second year now. One plant had a baby and it looks real healthy. The other two did not sprout any new sprouts. . .but still look healthy. I am awaiting the flowers soon. Note these plants went thru two hurricanes this year, and it seemed the extra rain only helped them grow into bigger and stronger plants! Now, I want to try my hand at some avacado trees and also!!!! banana trees. The banana tree is a real interesting and educational plant to watch mature into a banana bearer.
