How To Make A Dog (Or Cat) Pet Bed
Today’s feature is from Pretty Little Things with Doggie (or Kitty) Bed Tutorial:
I like to use the towels cuz they’re snuggly and you can find some really great coordinating prints for cheap at the discount stores. I also like them because they are machine washable. You can just stuff the whole darn thing in the washer.
Materials Needed:
- measuring tape
- scissors
- grocery bag (for pattern)
- 1 or 2 towels
- durable canvas (for bottom)
- polyfill (about 20 oz)
*you can also use regular cotton fabric, fleece, flannel, whatever!
You can use new towels, but it’s also a great idea to use old towels you have on hand. Not only is this a great way to recycle towels, they make the bed so cozy for your pet. Make these cute & cozy little beds to coordinate with your decor if you like, how sweet would that be
.

Re-cycle your shredded paper as a filler for a dog or cat bed.
Stuff an old pillow case and tie off with a rubber band. Put into another pillow case or homemade case and presto you’ve got a bed that’s quickly changed out as often as needed. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats and they all love their
pillows. I’ve made slip cases from old towels as covers too.
I find the shredded paper is a cheap and easily replaced filler.
An added feature is that the paper doesn’t seem to retain odors.
Still another way to continue the re-cycle cycle!
That is a really great tip Elli, thanks for sharing!
I took some old cushins from an old couch and old pillows and took out the fluff from them to use in a new dog bed for my pets. It’s a great way to reclycle those old pillows, and you don’t have to waste money on something that is just going to get dirty anyway! Plus it’s washable!
old foam mattress pads are perfect for fillers too. I got 7 pet pads out of 1 queen sized waterbed pad.
I use two bath towells (for smaller dogs could you could use hand towells and really big dogs use bath sheets) sewn together and round the corners. Then I fill with shredded foam.
You can re-fluff easily and washes without fuss. Just toss in washer and dryer.
You can get towells to match any color room.
