How To Make A One-Pot Indoor Herb Garden

Picture of Potted Herbs - Tipnut.comToday’s feature is from Re-Nest with a nice tutorial for How To: Make a One-Pot Indoor Herb Garden:

Basil, thyme, sage. These are indispensable herbs, and they grew in abundance on our front stoop all summer. It’s too cold outdoors now, but we don’t like paying $2.50 per packet at the supermarket.

Fortunately it’s not difficult to grow these herbs indoors – even in a tiny kitchen.

One big pot, some potting soil, and a few herb plants are all you need. You should also have a sunny spot; the herbs will need plenty of direct sunshine.

If you have the room in your kitchen (and a spot with lots of sun), this is one of those projects that serves you in a variety of ways–this is a frugal method to enjoying fresh herbs that you grow yourself, plus herb pots are pretty additions to any kitchen.

Nice instructions!

Herbs can be used in so many ways! Plan ahead and choose herbs to grow that will best serve your needs, if you like herb butters, homemade herbal cleaners or herbal health aids and beauty treats, grow the herbs that you will put to use most.

I am so ready for spring so I can start my garden. Last year was the first year I did gardening and I was so proud of all I was able to grow. Herbs are incredibly easy to grow and add so much to my dishes. Thanks for the garden inspiration!

You’ve got me inspired to start my own indoor herb garden, I love cooking and fresh herbs are always the best to use for more flavour, not to mention how healthy they are. *admin edit

I highly recommend keeping the mint in another pot. Parsley is another one that can get out of hand. Another thing that grows well inside are little tomatoes such as grape tomatoes. We eat a lot of tomatoes. They get expensive in the winter, but we still keep them in the house. I decided to try to grow them last year and had excellent luck. We kept them on a small table over the heater so they had a warm sunny spot. The only problem I found was they needed excessive (sometimes twice daily) watering. This year, I will have an automatic watering system in place!
