I can't believe that someone thought this would be dangerous. I have made these
using mason jars and if you are really worried about them starting a fire, made a longer wire hangar. I have seen this idea in Martha Stewart, Country Living, etc. so I don't understand. Great way to use up those glass jars and give them a new life!

Yes, these could be danerous if you have them hanging in a terrible spot on the tree; however, use common sense and judgement so you will not have them in a dangerous situation. If you feel uncomfortable haning them in trees, place them on picnic tables or on your patio. We use excellent judgement with our tiki torches on our back deck as well as citronella candles outside. These would be an excellent craft product so your children could help and you could teach them fire safety. These candle holders are fantastic and look great as they light up the nigh but also a calming event at night with friends. Really, give it a try Corrina and you will see for yourself what wonderful lights these bring.
Have a great evening under the stars and candles with your family....Rose

I do not see how this COULD be dangerous. A candle in a jar, hanging from a tree...I can't recall a tree ever burning because of a candle. Like everyone else says,if you have an iota of common sense,it's not dangerous. Maybe that post was sarcasm and we all just fell for it!

These are great - rustic & chic. As to the 'safety' comment, I suggest if you don't have any common sense, don't use 'em.

If you are terribly concerned about safety...why not use the battery operated tealight candles that are readily available at the dollar store. Same effects ... less hazard!

I don't see how these could be dangerous if you use your brain and only light when supervised and not under dry branches. I bought a set of lanterns just like this a pier one and never had any problems...just make sure you use a decent amount of wire and a candle appropriate in size. They look beautiful!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting!

No more dangerous than tiki torches! I think they look great and as long as you use common sense when using them they add a lot to the garden.
