How To Organize A Junk Drawer
Today’s feature is a video showing how to effectively organize a junk drawer (and keep it organized!):
Tips:
- Notice the large drawer size, a small drawer gets jam-packed too easily and makes it harder to keep things neat. Once you start packing things on top of each other, trouble starts brewing.
- Use small containers & bags to keep things sorted. I do this myself and it really does work (same with the kitchen gadgets drawer). The dollar store usually has great little plastic containers if you don’t have any on hand to dedicate to the junk drawer.
Some organizing purists advise against junk drawers, but I find ours quite handy and consider it more a “Resource Drawer” (as suggested in the video). Everyone in our home knows exactly where to find glue sticks, scissors, pens, scrap paper, string, tape, etc. (and saves my home office from being raided thank you very much
). I wouldn’t be without one!
My problem: Drawer size. I need to find a bigger drawer, mine’s about 1/3 the size in the video (deeper though) and it does need spot checking to keep things under control. It never occurred to me to use a dresser drawer…in fact I could use an extra dresser to store all sorts of things…hmmmm.

When I try to download some of your PDF files, not all, I just see little squares instead of words. This has not happened anywhere else. The latest two are the vintage apron and the list of measurements.
Hi Sandra, Sorry you’re having trouble with the PDF downloads, I’m not sure why you’re having the problem or how to fix it though?
use an old tin muffin pan to organize itty bitty things; you can find them at garage sales, etc. Spray paint a pretty color if you want. I have nails, screws, hooks, push pins, thumbtacks, picture hanging hardware, etc., etc. It doesn’t take up a whole drawer for me and you can even get some of those smaller mini muffin ones to use.
