Installing An Automated Drip System

Handy Tip - Tipnut.comToday’s feature is from Lifehacker with their tip from last summer: Never Forget To Water Your Garden Again With An Automated Drip System:

I did some research on drip irrigation systems and was impressed to find the cost and features of this technology has really come along. You don’t need to know much about hardware or plumbing, nor do you have to dig any trenches. While older systems were prone to clogging these new systems are really flexible, pretty much leak-proof, and go together like a box of legos.

This is the perfect time of year to get this setup and going! I found another set of instructions at Ron Hazelton’s Housecalls site that includes a tip for irrigating containers: How to Install an Irrigation System:

Learn how to install an automatic irrigation system; includes details on running and concealing flexible irrigation lines.

DIY Pop Bottle Drip Irrigation System

This added feature is from You Grow Girl with the tip Make Your Own Pop Bottle Drip Irrigation System:

One of the best ways to provide a steady water supply to your plants without your constant attention is the gradual watering system or drip irrigation. Through this method a device is employed that slowly delivers water into the soil directly around the roots. Commercial watering spikes can be purchased from you local garden centre however, using recycled materials you can make your own drip irrigation system for free.

Supplies needed: Plastic drink bottles, drill and drill bits, knife and cutting surface–voila! You’re good to go.
