It’s been a few months since a new set of vintage embroidery designs has been uploaded here on Tipnut but I am finally ready to start sharing them again (I wanted to clean up the Embroidery section before adding anything new).

Vintage Kitchen Gadgets Pattern Set

Vintage Kitchen Gadgets Pattern Set

This is a charming set of six different kitchen gadgets with fruit in the background that you can either cross stitch or do both cross stitch and applique work (patterns for both are provided). This is from my personal collection and I believe they were published in the 1940s or 1950s.

I have the instructions and individual downloads available for you below, I hope you like them just as much as I do! :)

Vintage Kitchen Gadget Designs For Dishtowels

This pattern contains motifs to be worked in cross stitch with applique or in cross stitch with outline stitch to be used on kitchen towels.

All applique patches are given. Linen toweling should be used for towels, six strand cotton for embroidery. The motifs are to be done in a variety of colors, in one color or in two shades of one color.

Material Requirements (for one towel):

  • 1 yard of 16 or 18 inch material
  • six strand cotton in each color to be used
  • scraps for applique

Embroidery Instructions: Follow Color Suggestions (below) and work crosses, cross stitch; continuous lines, outline stitch.

Applique: Follow Color Suggestions and work crosses, cross stitch. Cut out patches on outer line; the inner broken line is the finishing line. Slash edges at intervals and on small lines at right angles to outer line. Turn under edges and baste in place on motif. Catch patch to article with outline stitch; work rest of patch in outline stitch.

Color Suggestions: For working in Plain Embroidery or Applique work fruits in their respective colors; leaves, green; lattice, deep green, brown or black; kitchen ware, all black if done in Plain Embroidery; if done in Applique a bright color or predominating color of kitchen. Work in one color if desired or two colors working crosses in the lighter shade, the rest in the darker shade.
