Basket Of Freshly Picked Blueberries

  1. Individual Blueberry Grunts: A grunt is in the cobbler family, and it’s a traditional East Coast maritime dessert. It’s perfect for people who might want something like a pie, but are too lazy make an actual pie. So that means it’s perfect for me! From VeganYumYum.
  2. Homemade Blueberry Liqueur: Over the years I’ve been experimenting with mixes of wild and cultivated blueberries, fresh and frozen, and with the ratios of vodka, berries and syrup. It just never seemed to come out right. My try last December was pure chance. With, for some reason, no fresh blueberries available in the store, I bought a 16-ounce bag of frozen berries. We let them thaw completely, and then tossed them in the vodka with some lemon peel and too many cloves. Five months later, I’ve just bottled my one precious bottle, and it was wonderful. Recipe and instructions from Gunther Anderson.
  3. Mini Blueberry Crisps: The result was a tiny, buttery, crumbly dessert filled with sweet, juicy blueberries. The crust is incredible delicious (you can definitely tell there’s some butter in it) and the cinnamon-oatmeal combination goes surprisingly well with the blueberries. The best part about these little crisps are that they are insanely easy to make and come together very quickly. They can be served immediately, warm, or cold (I prefer cold). Go ahead and make these, you won’t regret it! Found at Crepes of Wrath.
  4. Baked Blueberry Pecan French Toast: The pecans are toasted and tossed with a smidgeon of butter – giving them a delicious, buttery flavor. The french baquette slices soak in an egg/milk/brown sugar mixture overnight and it all bakes to glorious perfection with fresh, tart blueberries and a brown sugar caramel drizzled atop. It is very glorious and makes a perfect Saturday morning breakfast. From My Kitchen Cafe.
  5. Blueberry Peach Crisp: The fruit was so sweet, I dare say I could have omitted a lot of the sugar that was tossed in with it. The surprise for me was that soft, crunchy texture from the pecans in the topping. I had actually debated using almonds instead of pecans, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Topped with a scoop or two of lemon custard ice cream (thanks to Helen), that’s your ticket to summery bliss. Yee-haw! Found at Use Real Butter.
  6. Blueberry Cream Cheese Braid: Blueberries and cream cheese wrapped in a sweet yeasted dough. Yes, it really is as good as it sounds, and it is making me hungry again just sitting here thinking about it. Found at The Fresh Loaf.
  7. Lemony Blueberry Corn Bread with Basil: Here is a variation of Mom’s old-fashioned corn bread. Infused with tart lemon and savory basil, this moist cornbread makes a lovely addition to a summertime brunch or picnic. From Food Blogga.
  8. Blueberry Jam: Recipe from Food In Jars.
  9. Fresh Blueberry Pancake Syrup: I love making pancake syrup, but this is my first attempt making a berry syrup. It is amazing how sugar, water, a little vanilla, and fresh berries make such an incredible difference on a plain old waffle. The burst of flavor, the happy dance in my mouth, and the smacking of lips at the table make me so incredibly joyful. The berries coat the waffle perfectly and add a little sweetness to my waffle without a sugary overkill. Found at The Mother Load.
  10. Blueberry-Banana Bread: The result was incredible: The bananas make the bread extremely moist and lightly sweet, and the blueberries add a fruity surprise to every other bite. If you like bananas and blueberries, I think you’ll love them together. From FatFree Vegan.
  11. Blueberry Lemon Coffeecake: As written, the recipe calls for candied lemon peel (which I didn’t have) but in reading thru the blog I discovered it could be substituted with freshly grated lemon zest (which I did have!!). This coffeecake came together very quickly… very easily and was very very very tasty. My coworkers devoured it and responded with enormous praise. They absolutely loved this and most every one of them said it was “amazing”, “great”, “terrific”, “perfect”. I couldn’t agree more :) Found at The Repressed Pastry Chef.
  12. Blueberry Almond French Toast Bake: The hardest thing about this dish is waiting for it to come out of the oven because as it is baking it fills your kitchen with the most enticing, heartwarming, vanilla-cinnamon aroma. Its looks and taste hold up their end of the bargain too. Inside it is egg-y, perfectly sweetened, and studded with bursting warm blueberries. Outside it is crisp and crowned with sugared toasted almonds. Found at Food Network.
  13. Buttermilk Pancakes with Blueberries: I didn’t have high hopes for the blueberry compote; unfortunately we get pretty mediocre cultivated blueberries in the UK, nothing like the tiny, flavour-jammed fruits of my Ontario home. But I was amazed at how much my generic supermarket berries were improved by simmering them into a simple compote. They became downright tasty. The whole pancake-compote-maple butter operation does take more work than regular pancakes, so this is one for a lazy weekend morning or a special occasion. Found at Let Her Bake Cake.
  14. Blueberry Buckwheat Waffles: From Florida Coastal Cooking.
  15. Blueberry Bread: This bread is a bit different. It’s full of blueberries. I’ve had banana bread and pumpkin bread, but I’d never had blueberry bread before this. I’m not sure what the heck I was waiting for. This stuff is delicious. It’s also the healthiest dang bread recipe I’ve ever made. Even more shocking, it didn’t start out all super healthy, I adapted the recipe to make it that way. Usually I adapt recipes by adding more butter or sugar, but this time I was replacing oil with applesauce and using whole wheat flour in place of white. From Buns In My Oven.
  16. Apple & Blueberry Shortcake: This cake/pie is so very good. In fact, now that I think further on the issue of the cake/pie, the final effect is something more like an enormous, soft and delicious cookie stuffed with stewed apple and blueberries. Recipe from O Pistachio.
  17. Mini Blueberry Tartelettes: This recipe is inspired by the classic french fruit tarts I was taught how to make at culinary school. The filling is a simple vanilla pastry cream (which is incredibly easy to make) and a light apricot glaze comes last, to give the finishing touch to the tart. I decided to make mini tartelettes this time which worked well for the party we were having that night. They’re something fun and elegant about small finger food for dessert isn’t there? From Chocolate Shavings.
  18. Blueberry & White Chocolate Chunk Ginger Cookies: These easy cookies are a real snap to make – just stir and bake. Found at Eating Well.
  19. Blueberry Scones With Lemon Glaze: Petite, moist, flaky and not too sweet, unlike most you see these days which are the size of my head and hard as bricks. You can actually taste the butter. If something has lots of butter in it I want to be able to taste it. For real. The butter has gently settled itself into the layers just waiting for your bite. Found at Mehan’s Kitchen.
  20. Blueberry Breakfast Bars Recipe: After a bit of tinkering (including nearly doubling the amount of blueberries in my original version), I’ve come up with what I think is a delectable blueberry bar. I have never tasted anything quite like it. With its oatmeal crust and streusel topping, it reminds me of an eat-with-your-hands cross between blueberry pie and blueberry crisp. Found at Farmgirl Fare.
  21. Blueberry Pie: This blueberry pie is not vegan, nor gluten-free, but it doesn’t contain nuts! And it’s a simple, classic dessert recipe. This pie was absolutely perfect; I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s almost exactly the same as the cherry pie I made. It’s not too late to make this! Bake this pie before blueberries go out of season! From Sugar Plum.
  22. Lemon Blueberry Buckle: A buckle, at least according to what resulted in this recipe, is a tender, buttermilk-enriched cake flavored with lemon zest and studded with fresh blueberries, then topped with more fresh blueberries and a lemon-zest besprinkled streusel that is strewn across the cake half-frozen. And then, in a stroke of genius, after the cake is pulled from the oven, it gets a final shot of extra lemon flavor from a hot lemon syrup spooned across the top. Found at The Wednesday Chef.
  23. Wild Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls: Who does not love fluffy sweet cinnamon rolls?.These classic rolls presented here are lower in sugar and fat calories and intensified in flavor with the wild blueberry filling. Found at Yasmeen Health Nut.
  24. Blueberry Cornmeal Cake: It turns out that they loved this cake – we all did. It was so moist and delicious – and if you sprinkle some cinnamon on top, you could call it a coffee cake and eat it for breakfast. Found at First Look, Then Cook.
  25. Lemon Blueberry Bread: This bread is bursting with juicy sweet blueberries and brushing on a hot lemony glaze just as it comes out of the oven, not only infuses the bread with a nice citrus flavor but it also makes the bread tender and moist. It is very similar to a pound cake, which makes it perfect any time of the day. This is a recipe I have been making for years; ever since I cut it out of a 1991 issue of Bon Appetit magazine. From Joy of Baking.
  26. Blueberry Buttermilk Cake: This month’s pick for Have the Cake was Gourmet’s infamous buttermilk cake that has made the rounds on just about every blog imaginable since it was published in June 2009. And with good reason. One. It is easy. And delicious. Two things I look for in a cake. Two. It pairs well with just about any berry. So no matter what you have sitting in that bowl on your counter. Throw it in. Mix. Match. Experiment. This cake is a survivor. It will prevail. Three. It goes really well with strawberry whipped cream. Which is my new obsession. And my own little twist to the cake. An attempt to kick all of the living virtuosity out of it. If you will. Totally worth it. Found at Eats Well With Others.
  27. Blueberry Coffee Cake Recipe with Brown Sugar Crumb Topping: What I like about this recipe is the brown sugar crumb crust which adds texture, flavor, and sends this coffee cake into a league of its own. Preparing it in a bundt pan also is nice because you can garnish it with powdered sugar and have the crumb crust actually be layered on the bottom. However you decide to bake it, I present to you the recipe. Enjoy! Recipe from Savory Sweet Life.
  28. Blueberry Cobbler Bars: Blueberries are great on their own, but once you start making recipes with them things get unhealthy in a flash. Blueberry pancakes, blueberry cobbler, blueberry pie, blueberry coffeecake… you get the idea. So, this morning when I opened my fridge and saw that big pack of blueberries, I immediately wanted some blueberry cobbler with ice cream! Instead I dreamed up this healthier alternative. I’m not claiming that they are fat free or super low in calories, but they are not all bad! From Cooking With My Kid.
  29. Bear Chaser Blueberry Pies: Recipe from Midwest Living.
  30. Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream: There are three parts to this ice cream, but it didn’t seem terribly burdensome to make, and you could easily make each part separately over the course of a day and then churn the ice cream. Although the recipe calls for layering the ice cream, graham crumbs, and blueberry sauce and swirling it together (which worked just fine), I think you could also just mix in both towards the end of the freezing cycle. Also, when making the blueberry sauce, I smashed up the blueberries so there wouldn’t be large chunks in the ice cream, but rather a thick sauce swirled in. From Brown Eyed Baker.
  31. Blueberry Buttermilk Ice Cream: Here’s an ice cream recipe that makes use of one of my dad’s and my favorite summer fruits. Blueberries are showing up at farmers markets and backyards all over the Southeast and West coasts right about now. If they haven’t made it to your climate zone yet, consider yourself lucky to still be in strawberries, which make a very fine substitute in this recipe. Found at Grist.
  32. To Die For Blueberry Muffins: A crunchy struesely topping covering a moist and blueberry filled center. You don’t need to remember to let the butter soften. You don’t need to drag out your mixer. You can use fresh blueberries, or you can use frozen ones. It’s a laid back, easy kinda recipe. Recipe from The Cutting Edge Of Ordinary.
  33. Blueberry Buttermilk Muffins with Streusel Topping: I’ve been searching for the perfect blueberry muffin recipe for a while now. I’ve tried countless recipes on the internet and I’ve come really close a few times but there was always something off about each recipe I tried. Too dry, too dense, too flavorless, too sweet, not sweet enough. I finally turned to a cookbook that I’ve had on the shelf for a few years (shocking, I know) and there it was…when I was least expecting it, I found it, the perfect blueberry muffin. Found at Sugar Cooking.
  34. Blueberry Sauces & Toppings: Quite a selection of recipes from US Highbush Blueberry Council.
  35. Blueberry Torte Squares: Can’t find fresh blueberries? Frozen work just as well. Found at Taste of Home.
