DIY: Make Fabric Shades From Mini-Blinds
Today’s feature is from Little Green Notebook with this clever DIY: Make Shades Out Of Mini Blinds:

Fabric Shades Project By littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com
Do you love the look of fabric shades but don’t want to fork over the cash?Shades can often cost you an arm and a leg (especially custom fabric shades). When my cheap white IKEA shades were safety-recalled, I decided to figure out a way to repurpose the old {ugly} mini blinds that had previously hung in our bedroom windows. The result was better and easier than expected, not to mention even cheaper than the cost of new IKEA shades.
If you hate those cheap ratty blinds hanging in the window (or buried in the storage room), have some fun ripping them apart and remaking them into something perfectly lovely for your home.
Materials Needed:
- Fabritac (or comparable fabric glue – not hot glue)
- Mini blinds (like the $3 Target mini blinds)
- Fabric (yardage depends on the size of your window)
- Trim (optional)
That’s it! Please visit the site above for all the project details, nice job!

I was unable to access the page with the directions for making fabric shades out of mini-blinds and of course, would like to do that very much. Please help. Diane
Anyone else having trouble with the link? It says “not found” when I do it…..
Oh no….can’t find the website. I was just about to go buy shades for DD’s bedroom and then got this tip. Can you help. I’ve even searched the web. Thanks so much and I really appreciate all you do to keep us informed.

Wonderful idea, especially for those really ugly plastic slat blinds! One of my thoughts was: What was it look like from the outside of the window? Just for giggles, instead of having raw edges showing from your summer lawn while others are sitting with you having a glass of tea—why not bind the raw edges either by sewing or with the same binding you put at the bottom before you attach them to the sides? That way, the fabric looks more “finished” and much prettier for those who are looking at your windows from the street!
Thanks for the demonstration and instructions. Great idea.
The site might have been down for a bit when you tried–it’s up now

I love this site!! And I love getting your daily tips in my inbox. Yes, I could log on to your site and search for myself. But, some of the stuff never crosses my mind. Not to mention being able to get directions.
Thanks!!!!
