How To Make Strawberry Jam: Small Batch Making For Beginners

Today’s feature is a nice video that walks you through step-by-step how to make a small batch of strawberry jam–this is perfect for beginners!

But that’s not all, the site that created the video also has plenty of pdf downloads to get your preserve-groove on (good for both beginners and pros)! If you love the idea of jam making but are a little leary about giving it a shot, this is a great way to test the waters.




The Jam Recipe Ingredients:

  • Fresh strawberries sliced (3 cups) 1 1/2 pint baskets
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 TBS fresh lemon juice
  • 1 TBS diced candied ginger

Nothing too crazy, nice basic recipe and the steps are simple with no large amounts of equipment or supplies needed–the ginger is optional so if that doesn’t appeal to you it’s fine to leave out.

    I can’t believe how easy this is. I also can’t believe she doesn’t need to add pectin. Is that because of the ginger?

    Hi Christense, you could add pectin if you wanted a thicker consistency, but cooking the strawberries makes them thick enough for jam–no pectin necessary. You can see her “testing” the jam to see if it’s cooked long enough (to see if it’s too runny or just right). It’s not because of the ginger, just that the jam gets thick on its own as the berries cook.
