How To Make Etched Glass Pantry Jars
Today’s feature is from Martha Stewart with this simpler-than-you-think project for making Etched Glass Storage Jars:

Etched Glass Pantry Jars Project By marthastewart.com
Keep pantry staples organized with a set of glass storage jars customized with etched lettering.
The idea is to mark off the design area with tape, position vinyl letters and any type of design feature you like, then cover with etching cream. Real simple stuff and I think the end result is lovely.
I love crafty stuff that’s not only visually pleasing but also quite useful, these would be a nice addition to any pantry or counter top and they’d make great shower gifts too!
What you need:

There are many places that can provide vinyl letters like a local sign shop or online. When selecting a type style, use a block letter style as compared with a serif or script style. (The serif style letters have the little curly-q’s at the ends of the character.) The block style letter has more surface area to make contact with the jar and prevents the etching cream from getting underneath the sticker. As a rule of thumb, the letter is as wide as it is tall so plan how many characters you can fit on a line. The font style in the photo appears to be Futura.
Glass etching cream in various sizes can be readily obtained at Michael’s Crafts. For practice and instructions, buy the small glass etching kit first – then you can buy the letters, and other patterns, also available at Michael’s. The best brushes for applying it are the small wire brushes available at Lowe’s – it is best to dab the cream on rather than paint it on.
I do not have any financial interest in either Lowe’s Hardware or Michael’s Crafts.
