Peasant Girl Dish Towels: Vintage Embroidery Pattern
Here is the latest free vintage pattern series from my personal collection, the Peasant Girl Dish Towel set. I believe this set is from the 1930s or 1940s. There’s a different pattern for each day of the week, each one featuring a cheerful Peasant girl performing a task. I’ll have one pattern from the set available each week (on Wednesday’s). Here are the pattern details with the first free pattern available to download (at the bottom) …
Peasant Girl Dish Towels

This pattern contains motifs to be worked in the simplest of embroidery stitches to be used on kitchen towels or other kitchen linens. Linen toweling is the best material to use for towels. Linen, muslin, gingham or any similar material would do for other articles.
Material Requirements: Towel: 1 yard 18 inch material; Six strand cotton in each color to be used.
Placing Motifs: Towel: Center one motif on one end about 1 1/2 inches above hem of towel.
Embroidery: Follow the color suggestions and work crosses, cross stitch; broken lines, running stitch; continuous lines, outline stitch; single lines, single stitch; eyes and other dots, satin stitch.
Color Suggestions: If embroidering in one color, work in black or a dark color. If embroidering in a variety of colors do the dresses in bright red, blue, yellow, green and purple; teapot, tray and cup and saucer, tan, an earthenware, or a bright color; mop, grey; mop handle, rolling pin and bowl, tan; bucket, grey, brown or a bright color; bench, brown; basket, tan or straw color; mouths, red; hair, brown or yellow; lettering, one of the colors used in dress or black. Finish motifs in black.

Pattern Download:
- You can download this week’s pattern here: Peasant Girl – Monday Chores.
Printing Instructions:
- Save the pattern to your desktop first (right click, save as…), open the file, select “Print”, uncheck anything like “Maintain Aspect Ratio” and “Fit To Page” then print.
- These will each fit on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of paper.
Transferring The Pattern:
- If you need help transferring the pattern, see this page: Embroidery Pattern Transfer Tips
Please Note:
The original patterns were printed “backwards” or “mirrored” because you had to lay them face down then iron onto fabric, I have already flipped the patterns since most would be tracing over top.
I’ll have another pattern up next week, I hope you like this new set
