Pincushion Mania! 50+ Designs To Make
Posted By Tipnut On January 22, 2011 @ 3:20 am In Sewing | 7 Comments
Here’s the second list of pincushion patterns that I’ve collected from around the net, each offering free tutorials (some with template downloads too). You’ll find the first list here which has also been updated (January, 2011).
Fabric Tomatoes : Free pdf template to download.
Patchwork : Bold fabric, zany buttons, and quirky ribbons elevate the practical pincushion to new heights of style.
Doily : Either make doilies yourself, or buy them at a thrift store, garage sale, or anywhere else you can find them cheap. The doilies used here are around 4″ diameter.
Easy Patchwork : These are fairly easy, take about an hour, and it’s a great way to use up little scrap pieces.
Tea Cup Flower : You’ll need enough scraps of fabric for 10 tea cup circles.
Simply Geometric : It is made up of circles, squares and triangles. Simply geometric!
Giant : These are super simple to make and adorable! They come in handy around your sewing room and work as great gifts for sewing friends.
Moda Love : This pattern makes two pincushions, so you can share the love!
Homegrown Tomato : Stitch a robust heirloom variety in loosely woven linen or cherry tomatoes in dainty gingham.
Adorable Pumpkin : It’s a basic design that we’ve seen before but embellished with a colorful green leaf and curling grossgrain ribbon, make sure to use some bright orange patterned fabric and voila! you have a sweet pumpkin.
Easy : So easy and you can always embellish them or keep them super simple.
Teacup : Made with vintage teacups.
DIY Owl : An owl shape is made out of modeling clay and then a small fabric pincushion placed in the center.
Petit Strawberry : A simple yet pretty pincushion you can attach to scissor handles, a rotary cutter, whatever else you like.
Spring Hats : The pincushions are made from pieces of felted wool (for the hat, hat band, appliqued leaves and flowers) and embellished with embroidery floss and seed beads.
Quick-pieced : Lovely square pincushion with a pieced top in colorful fabrics and a button center (one button on either side).
Thread Caddy & Pin Holder : Six little pockets to hold thread, the center is stuffed and used as a pincushion. Tutorial available via free pdf download.
Sundaes Best : Here’s a unique idea that converts a large glass pedestal ice cream sundae dish into a handy sewing room accessory.
Cookie Cutter : Cute project made with a cookie cutter (any shape), fun foam, thin floral foam, crushed walnut shells and a charm pack of fabric.
For Sewing Machine Needles : Has a template to download for needle descriptions that you use to transfer to felt.
The majority are for crochet but I’ll be adding more to this page as I find them (only four knitting patterns listed at the moment).
Daisy Chatelaine : Charming thread crochet pattern, has a crocheted cord for hanging.
Egg : Crochet pattern. How handy is this when sitting in an egg cup!
Tricornu : Knitting pattern with some sewing involved (fabric bottom attached to knitted piece).
Aunti Wainwrights : Pretty thread crochet pattern. The site is Finnish but the pattern is translated in english.
Felted Lime : Knitting pattern, nice and citrus-y!
Cupcake Pattern : Crochet. Decorate with a sprinkling of seed beads.
