Thank you so much!! We had dropped a bottle cap down the shower drain and it was plugged up and I thought I would have to call a plumber. I used this pantyhose and vacuum trick and got it up in under a minute (it took longer to get the vacuum upstairs than to vacuum it out). You saved me a call to the plumber! Thank you so much!

Sorry folks. The original video required Quicktime. I've switched it now to a format that should work for more people.

Best,
Michael

Sorry guys, I should have realized some may not be able to access the video and would like to know the tip.

He uses a wet/dry vacuum, covers the hose with pantyhose and then sucks up the item that has fallen down the drain. The pantyhose catches the item and prevents it from being sucked up into the vacuum.

OK, so I was clicking on the wrong thing, Sorry. I got it to play and was surprised at how easy the vacuum made it. Although not everyone has a wet/dry vac handy. If the drain has an overflow I'd imagine that would also need to be plugged so the full suction could go down the pipe.

Couldn't see the video. I have a drain with several earrings in it and I would love to know how to get them back. I think I have the gist of it but would appreciate knowing the real thing.
