I have done this for years and love it. I use square canvas totes (with handles and a slot for a paper, which I put their name) from Walmart. They come in nice colors and are very sturdy. I keep them on a deep shelf (we have 8 people in our family). I throw other things in there, too, that get left around the house. Toys, books and hair accessories get put away doing this without me running to everyone's rooms.

I also have a great way to sort dirty laundry. Four color coded baskets to sort and put on shelves in the laundry room closet. White for whites, Yellow for colors, Brown for darks and Blue for Towels. Everyone in the family can sort clothes with this system.

I have found what works most efficiently for my family is to minimize all the running around to put clothes away. So each member of our home (family of 6) has their own basket for dirty clothes and their assigned day that their items are washed and put away. Since I am only washing one persons laundry a day then I only have to go to one room (instead of bouncing from room to room everday to put away everyones laundry) to return them where they belong. If my children were older they could themselves take the initiative to get there basket on their day.

I mark the tags on my kids clothing, so I know who's is who's.....one dot for the oldest two for the next and so on...then as you pass it down just add a dot.

I AM A MOTHER OF 4 WITH SO MUCH LAUNDRY AND SO LITTLE TIME I HAVE FOUND THAT STACKING PLASTIC CRATES WITH NAME TAGS IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM ALLOWS ME TO FOLD AND STACK AT MY CONVENIENCE AND THEM TO PUT THEIR STUFF AWAY IN BETWEEN THEIR BUSY SCHEDULES.
