Start A Coupon Club At Work

Picture of Coupons - Tipnut.comWorkplace coupon exchange clubs can work out very well, giving everyone who participates a regular flow of rebates, extra store club bonus points as well as hefty coupon savings at checkout.

Given all the coupons, rebate offers and extra bonuses that are provided in newspapers, magazines, flyers and mailings–no one can possibly use every single one that comes their way.

Some coworkers could really use all those diaper coupons, while others love the hair dye savings. Combine forces and everyone comes away with big savings!

Tips For Best Success

  • Keep things organized. If coupons are stuffed in a shoe box willy nilly and the expired ones not removed, it starts feeling like a chore to find anything worthwhile to use and people lose interest in participating.
  • Keep things simple. The more complicated you make the file system, the less likely people will participate. Don’t worry about organizing food groups, household cleaners, beauty products, etc. Just sort by month. Less hassle = more participation.
  • Encourage everyone to bring in coupons they don’t use, even those that have no intention of taking coupons for their own use. Put up a sign in the coffee room asking for coupons that aren’t used for the workplace coupon club. Most people like to help out others and if coworkers know that someone will gladly use the coupons they would normally just throw out–they’ll start bringing them in.
  • Offer to accept flyers and mailings yourself from those who aren’t going to participate in the coupon club and go through them to clip the coupons and file away. Make it as easy as possible for everyone to contribute coupons. You could also stick these in the back of the file with a pair of scissors and the participating couponers will help cut and organize.
  • The less rules, the better. The more complicated you make it, the less chance for success. Make it easy for people to participate.
  • If starting a coupon club at work is just going to be an opportunity for some to be bossy and controlling–the club won’t flourish. If grumbling about so-and-so taking more than they leave starts, gently remind that everyone who comes away with just one coupon or rebate offer that saves them money comes out ahead. It’s one coupon they didn’t have before–all they gave up were coupons they didn’t need.
  • Have one simple rule: Everyone is welcome to leave as much as they like and take as much as they can use. Encourage an environment of generosity and sharing.

Some Setup Suggestions

  • Have one central location for the coupons to be collected and browsed through. The staff coffee room is an ideal location. Make sure to keep things tidy and not in the way of those who aren’t participating.
  • Sort the coupons by expiry date (monthly), keeping the soon to be expired at the front of the file. Encourages everyone to keep things in order since it’s uncomplicated to do so as well as makes it easy to purge the expired coupons regularly.

All it takes is for 2 or 3 coworkers to get the ball rolling by regularly contributing coupons and after awhile the coupon club will likely grow naturally. You’ll find coworkers curious about the club and more people participating or at the very least–more people dropping off stacks of unused coupons.

Workplace Coupon Clubs can be an ideal way to regularly save money!
