Today’s feature is from Backyard Living Magazine with this nifty project for Cake-Frosting Stepping Stones:

Cake-Frosting Stepping Stone Project By backyardlivingmagazine.com
Make just one of these “cake-frosting” stepping-stones and you’ll be hooked. Success is guaranteed when you follow these simple (pardon the pun) step-by-step instructions. Best of all, you’ll recapture the mud-pie-making joy of childhood. The items you can use to make these one-of-a-kind disks are limited only by your imagination—or by whatever you stumble across around your house. There are those leftover tiles, the seashells you collect on your winter vacations, even that can of old keys. So take a creative leap: Make one stepping-stone, and you may have so much fun you’ll fill your yard and garden with them.
The nifty idea is to cover precast pea-gravel surfaced steps with a mortar mix (the frosting on the cake) and then embellish with mosaic pieces, glass beads, polished rocks, shiny bits and whatever else you like. No need to pour your own molds! I haven’t confirmed the supply prices locally, but what they have on their list looks reasonable–you can make a pile of these for just a few bucks (much cheaper than kits).
If making decorative garden stepping stones is on your project list this year, this would be a super-easy way to make them. Great gift idea too (another Mother’s Day goody).
