Then on the plastic parts of the dryer use ice cubes to loosen the gum and then use the same towel with dawn dish detergent to finish cleaning the mess. This is not hard to do, I did this in 30 minutes after finding my gummy dryer. Use dawn dish detergent on a wet towel and continue to wipe the metal parts of the dryer down until the gum comes up. This is not hard to do, I did this in 30 minutes after finding my gummy dryer.

I was wearing a new pair of expensive blue jeans. When the parade ended, I pushed up on my knees to get up and my right knee hit the street and picked up a huge wad of chewing gum someone had discarded. Since I was on a two week trip to California, I could do noting but wait until I got home to try to get it out. By that time the gum had hardened. So, what did I do? I grabbed my bottle of GooGone and thoroughly soaked the gummy knee. That allowed me to peel the glob away. Then I squeezed more Goo Gone on what was left of the gum and washed the jeans with my regular detergent in warm water. I had truly thought they those jeans were gonners, but the only thing gone at the end of the wash cycle was the gum! GooGone is an amazing product and it can be used to remove gummy residue from just about everything (stuck on labels, price tags, adhesive and Scotch tape, etc.), from fabrics, glass, windows, mirrors, walls, just about any surface. I spent the morning cleaning a whole pack of dried gum off the dryer using white vinegar and dryer sheets. Basically, pour some white vinegar on the dryer sheet and start wiping... for best results, pour some in and rotate the dryer drum by hand, lettting it soak. Use a soft-bristle brush (like one you use on glasses in the sink) and break up the big stuff. Continue rotating and wiping with the dryer sheets. Use lots of sheets - as they tend to accumulate lots of gum and start breaking down. Finally, I rinsed with some water and wiped down with a Magic eraser. Rinse again - wiping vigorously and feeling with your hand for any additional gum. Finally wipe it all out with a few papertowels. Then, run the first load using some big junk stuff - like towels you dry your car with. Run those through until they look and smell good. I think that it is safe, after that, to run regular clothes through. Thanks everyone for their advice - I just wanted to give back. Just wet the sheet and rub the gum right off the clothing and dryer. SO EASY and personal experience too!!!!! Then wash clothes as usual.
