Tipnut Mailbag: Remove Microwave Scorch Marks
Ta da! Here’s the first tip to be published in the Tipnut Mailbag category.

Here’s the hot tip found in the Tipnut Mailbag, it’s a great tip for removing scorch marks inside a microwave . . .
I have successfully removed a scorch from the wall of my brand-new microwave!
It needs a 3 part approach:
- try one of those magic eraser sponges.
- then use toothpaste on an old tooth brush. You’ll need a lot of scrubbing with both of them to even lighten the scorch.
then, what worked the best:
- take a paper towel and fold it into a square a little bigger than your scorch. Wet it with bleach (like clorox). Use full strength. No need for it to be dripping, just wet. Then press it against your scorch and leave it there a few hours. It will stick to the side of the oven just fine. (and come off later just fine). Check it from time to time.
My popcorn scorch took 9 hours to completely fade away, but it did go away!
Thanks a bunch Kitty for sending in the tip (and sorry for the delay in response)!

Ok! Know we know how to get rid of the scorch mark, but how do we get rid of the burn smell that won’t go away?!?
Rene try boiling vinegar in the microwave and letting it steam inside for awhile (even overnight). Hot vinegar seems to work well for funky odors.
Magic eraser? Um are you crazy? That will create micro-scratches in the finishing agent used on the insdie of the microwave, and can cause all kinds of problems later. This is according to the local appliance repair guys — who love magic-eraser people, dryer-ball people, and washer-dispenser-ball people — since those people provide a good 1/3 of the monthly income to the shop, either in the form of expensive repairs — or for the microwaves, replacements when the microwave oven catches fire.
