Natural Toothpaste: Homemade Recipes

Today’s feature is from two different sources for easy to make, natural homemade toothpaste. The first is from The Thrifty Soaper with The Best Homemade Toothpaste:

Okay, you’re thinking ‘homemade toothpaste?’, Come On! But, do you realize how many harmful chemicals are in standardized toothpaste? Some of these horrible chemicals are Sodium Lauryl Sulphate(SLS), Triclosan, diethanolomine and Isopropyl Alcohol. Did you know Flouride can be fatal for children when consumed in high dosages?

Ingredients needed to make the toothpaste:

• Baking Soda
• Xylitol (this is a natural sugar substitute that you can find in your local health stores or online)
• Salt
• Liquid Glycerine
• Essential Oil

You can store the toothpaste in jars and spoon out as you use it, but one commenter had a clever idea to keep the toothpaste in capped squeeze bottles–just pipe out what you need mess-free.

All Natural Toothpaste Recipe

1/4 cup Vegetable Glycerin
1/4 cup Baking Soda
10 to 15 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil (food grade)

• Directions: Too easy! Just mix the ingredients together and voila! homemade toothpaste.

What this clever gal did was cut open an empty (used) tube of toothpaste, cleaned out the inside then scooped the homemade toothpaste into the toothpaste tube. Fold over the cut end of the tube then secure with a toothpaste squeezer or packaging clamp.

The homemade toothpaste is goopy and can be a bit runny so it’s not thick and pastey like commercial toothpaste (which may take a bit of getting used to), but it does the trick and it’s so cheap to make!
