Vintage Crochet Potholders Pattern – Free Download
Do you love kitschy kitchen items? Retro kitchen accessories? Then you’ll love this crochet pattern for potholders, I believe it’s from the 1940s (1944). They were very creative with crochet designs back in the day
.
At first I thought it was a potholder set depicting a sugar bowl and creamer, but I’m leaning more now toward a teapot and a sugar bowl? Not sure, but it’s quite a charming set that has a very retro feel to it. The teapot (or creamer) has a clock face and the sugar bowl has a cartoon expression.
You can download the full pattern here (pdf): Crochet Potholders Pattern.
The printout text for the pattern may be a bit too small for some of you to read, you can adjust this by zooming in on the pdf or scanning a larger copy for yourself. I did the best I could with the print quality and I’m able to read it myself, but I can see the text size & clarity being a problem for some.
The recipe on the pattern page is the following:
Parsley Puffs
1 bunch of parsley
1 egg
2 tsp flour
1 TBS water
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
- Wash parsley and break into small sprigs and put in ice water to crisp. Separate egg; to the beaten yolk, add flour, water, and seasonings, and beat until thoroughly mixed. Then fold in egg whites beaten stiff. Dip the parsley sprigs into this batter and fry in deep fat at 390°F until golden brown. Drain and serve hot. This is a tempting garnish for meats.
This vintage crochet pattern came from the book “STAR Pot Holders”, Book No. 32, American Thread Company. It’s filled 30 “Perky” potholder patterns, I’ll be sharing more here on Tipnut if you like.

I’d love to see the pattern for the scottie pot holder.
Hi,
i can’t seem to be able to download the pdf files for the 2 Vintage potholder patterns you have. Does anybody else have the same problem? When i clicked on the pattern name, it just lead me to a blank screen.
Hi Nita, you’re not the only one that’s having problems opening the pdf downloads, I’ve had a few pleas for help…I am at a loss as to what the problem is. I’ve tried on a few different computers and they all open fine for me, but even with that–I wouldn’t even know to go about fixing this.
Can I ask what version of adobe acrobat you have? Maybe there’s a clue there?
Would you check this pdf too and let me know if you have problems with it?
I just want to say that I am glad to see a guy crocheting. I’ve spent the last several months trying to convince my bf that guys do it too. And its also nice to see a guy crocheting for a change although I’m not sure if it is popular among men I’ve never come across it. Well I just wanted to give my encouragement or at least that’s my intentions
THANKS! These are absolutely adorable. I love kitschy retro kitchen stuff and I love tea. What could be better?
How do you download? Every time I click the link, I am taken back to the same page. Thanks.
Hi Bryan, the link is in the top/middle of the article, try this: pattern download (pdf download)
I can’t open the files
Sorry camilla, if you have the latest version of adobe installed and still can’t open the pdf download, I don’t know how to fix that for you. It is opening for me with no problems but I do know some people can’t open the file for some reason.
