Thank you so much. I’ve been sewing washable shopping totes and i wanted something that would rinse out, pack up nicely and carry the very odd shaped items.
Sissy
Hi; I am a beginner at crochet. This pattern’s instructions confuse me. Is there a more experienced crocheter out there who can re-word the instructions for me? I didn’t get very far. I ch 12. Joined with sl st to form a ring. And then I didn’t understand what I was to do next. I hope I’m not out of my depth because this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks if you can help!
Gonnie the next step that you do is make a sc through the ring that you just made (not through a stitch, but through the ring itself). Then chain 12. Do that 12 times [sc, 12 chains], then come back for the next bit if you still need help.
I get as far as starting row 2 before the confusion sets in. I am not sure which loop is the “next loop”. Am I meant to chain 12 from the base circle ( between the “petals” I have created by SC into loop, CH 12, SC into loop and SC into one of those to continue on? Any advice is welcomed!
Crissy you start out with a ring that you slip stitched together from the first chain 12. Then you’re making 12 more rings/loops by sc, ch 12. After you’re done doing the last ch 12, make the next sc required in the first “loop space” you made and then carry on with pattern.
To clarify: The “ring” is the initial ch 12 that you sl st together. The “loops” are the sc, ch 12.
Did that help?
Not really. Let’s say that I have created 12 “loop spaces” from the instructions for row 1. Do I SC into “loop space #1″, chain 12, SC into “loop space #1″? If so, I did that, then can’t figure out where to SC for the next one, to create 24. I tried SC into the next loop space (near the ring), chain 12, then SC into the top of the loop, chain 12, SC into the next loop (again near the ring), chain 12, SC into the top of the loop, etc and I ended up with 36 loops instead of 24. I am sure that it is something simple that I am just not getting, but I am trying and trying! I really want to make this bag! (And I am not a beginner crocheter or knitter… which is really the kicker!) If you can help out once more, I would appreciate it!
Okay, let me try. After you crochet your original circle of chain stitches and then chain twelve you’re putting your hook through the very middle of your original circle to do you sc. It’s not going through just “loop #1″ but wrapping around the entire chain stitch. Then chain twelve more, then place your hook through the circle made from your original circle to do your next sc. This means that your sc’s can actually slide around from side to side a bit because wrap over and around (but not into) that first row. This also means that when you’re done with that row, you’ll hardly see those first chain stitches.
Hope that helps…
