I put our kitchen garbage can on wheels. Just use a plant holder with wheels and attach with double sided tape. Any spills in any room, just wheel the garbage can to the area.

I sometimes do this when I clean my trash can. I fill the trash can with soapy water, swish it round to get the bigger bits, and dump that first rinse down the toilet. No reaching for the stuck on indeterminables at the bottom of the can, and very little bending over double! Clean broom idea was Flylady's - wish I'd thought of it!
And by the by - the dustpan gets a quick rinse and into the dishwasher. (Mine's plastic...)
