Welcome To The New Tipnut

Ta Da! Welcome to the new Tipnut, I hope you like it just as much as I do! I have plenty of new features to show you…

What’s Different

If you check out the home page, you’ll notice quite a difference in setup. Tipnut is now in magazine format!

  • There are featured slides that you can click on to review that tip.
  • You’ll see summaries of the latest tips in the more popular categories: Crafts, Household Tips, Food Tips and a few picks from me.
  • If you prefer browsing through subcategories, you can still do so easily. Just hover your mouse over a category name in the top navigation bar and any subcategories filed there will appear. Scroll to the one you want to review and click.
  • If you’re a subscriber you’ll always know what the latest tips are, but if not–you’ll still see the most recent tips listed in the right sidebar (underneath the video). You’ll want to check in regularly though since only 5 are listed (normally 2 1/2 days worth).

New Features

  • Click A Tip Button: You never know what you’ll find on Tipnut, there are well over 1,000 tips, projects and ideas shared here! Click A Tip is similar to Stumbling through a website, you’ll get a new random Tipnut page to view with every click.
  • Videos: Each page on Tipnut will have a video sharing cooking tips, organizing tips, gardening tips, How To information, loaded with good stuff. The videos are powered by 5min.com and I’m tickled Tipnut is able to implement their Smart Player and videos into the blog!
  • Ask & Answer Tipnut: This fun one is powered by Yedda.com and you can use this feature in a variety of ways. First there’s the Question of the Day in the right sidebar. I’ll be choosing questions that I think readers might like to help with, answer and learn from. The second is a question box you’ll see under each post and on the Ask & Answer Tipnut page. You can ask questions, review questions from other users and answer them if you like. So what’s the difference between that and blog comments? Well blog comments are for discussing what’s posted here on Tipnut. The Ask & Answer is more like a forum or group, you can start a discussion with your own question topics. All questions and answers will be hosted on Tipnut’s Yedda page (which will be a customized page for Tipnut shortly). You can find more info on how to use this feature on the Ask & Answer Tipnut page. I’m really looking forward to this!
  • Comment Avatars: You are now able to have an avatar show up beside your comments here on Tipnut if you have a Gravatar account. If you don’t, it’s free to signup. If you’d rather not, that’s ok! I’ve added a generic avatar to show up for those that don’t want to use an image of their own.
  • Quotes & Tip-Bits: You’ll see this little box in the bottom right corner. I’ve filled it with a few quotes about homekeeping, but I will be adding small quick tips in there too so keep your eye out for them. I plan on having fun with this one!

About & Site Support

  • Have you ever wondered who’s behind the Tipnut blog? Here’s the newly updated About page that talks about myself a bit, the blog and you!
  • Here’s a page thanking readers and those who’ve helped Tipnut along, Thank You page.
  • The main Help Page is bare atm, but I’ll be adding things as we go along. If you wonder how comments work here, there’s the Comments Help page that answers common questions. Having trouble finding what you want on Tipnut? Here’s the new Search Help page that gives a few searching pointers. The Subscription Help page has been revamped a bit as well.

Each of these pages can be found along the top navigation bar of the website. The Privacy Policy and Terms Of Use pages are still around, they’re located in the bottom right section of the blog.

A Few Notes

I’ll be doing minor tweaks over the next little while, mostly cosmetic and nothing major should change all that much. The current setup will have to be tested for awhile though so if you notice a feature missing, it had to be removed for some reason (slowed the site down too much for example).

I’ve decided to start accepting advertising on Tipnut. I was happy to cover costs managing the site for the past two years, but I feel it’s time. The Advertising Page has a few details for those interested.

I still have lots more I want to offer here, so consider this Phase I. I’m just not sure when I’ll be able to manage Phase II, but it’s on my wish list :) . Quick Note: I had a few emails after my post last night worrying about a membership only site or charging for access to the blog…Please don’t worry! I intend to keep all the information freely available to anyone who wishes to use it, I have no plans to change that.

I hope you like the new design and enjoy all the new features :) . If you notice something inappropriate or not working right, please let me know so I can fine tune the settings.

Hi, well now you are in the realm of the modern. It is fine but I already miss the quaintness, easier to use, almost old fashioned look. There is so little on the net anymore like your old format. Not too keen on all the advertizing(tho’ I know it is likely a necessity). Have enjoyed it everyday and will still look forward to the daily post. Thankyou, Arlene
