Things like price stickers and labels, different types of tape (packing, masking, scotch tape) can leave behind a sticky, gooey residue that’s a tricky mess to remove. Here’s a list of items that can help make the cleanup job a lot easier.
Updated: This list was first published in 2007 but there were a few good additions in the comments section below that I’m adding so they won’t get missed…
Careful: Please test in an unnoticeable area first to make sure there will be no damage to the surface (especially on wood).
- Nail Polish Remover
- Petroleum Jelly
- Toothpaste
- Hand Lotion
- Hair Spray
- Baby Oil (mineral oil)
- Vinegar (soak cloth, apply then leave for awhile–even overnight)
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Windex
- Baking Soda & Water Paste (just rub in gently then wipe off with a warm wet cloth)
- Lighter Fluid
- Kerosene
- WD-40 (set for 5 minutes)
- Paint Thinner
- Rubber Cement Thinner
- Artgum Erasers / Pencil Erasers
- Peanut Butter
- Vegetable Oil / Olive Oil (set for about 2 hours)
- Margarine
- Cooking Spray
- Mayonnaise (leave set for a few hours or overnight)
- Goo Gone
- Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
- Furniture Polish
- Eucalyptus Oil
- Tea Tree Oil
- Perfume / Aftershave
- PVC Pipe Cleaner
- For surfaces that you’re afraid to damage, try heating the goo with a hair dryer then wiping off (firmly) with a wet warm & soapy cloth.
- Duct Tape (press on goo firmly, life tape up quickly, repeat as needed)
More Tips
- Duct Tape Residue: try lighter fluid or WD-40.
- Once the mess has been removed, wash surface as you normally would.
- If one method doesn’t work for your particular spot, wash off the remainder of the remedy you tried and choose another.
- Ann Parker shares a good tip below: If all else fails, and you are ‘stuck’ with the glue, you can stop its stickiness by dusting it with talcum powder.
Have I left out your tried and true method? Please share below :).
(Originally published November 14, 2007) Plastering a vehicle with decals isn’t as common as it used to be but you still may come across them when buying used vehicles (and during hot election seasons).
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now how do you get the stubborn suckers off? Here are a few tips and tricks for peeling them off and getting rid of any residue left behind.
Getting Started: Use old credit cards, plastic rulers or blades to help peel it off when using one of the methods below.
Method #1
- First warm it with a hair dryer or heat gun until the glue underneath softens and then try peeling it off. If you do this in the summer, let the vehicle sit in the hot sun for about half an hour first since it will speed up the process.
- If you can’t park near an outlet to use a hair dryer or don’t have a heat gun, try pouring boiling water over it to get things underneath melted and loosened up enough to pull it off.
Method #2
- Saturate it really well with WD40, or lighter fluid, or white vinegar and allow to sit for a few minutes then try to peel it off*
*First test a small area where it won’t be noticed to make sure the vehicle’s paint job won’t be damaged or discolored.
Once you’ve gotten it off, you’ll find a bit of glue left on the vehicle. Keep heating with a hair dryer and rub it off with mineral spirits or a vinegar soaked cloth. You can also try WD40 or go through the list at the top of the page and test items until you find one that works (remember to test the surface of the vehicle first to ensure no permanent damage will occur).
Once you’ve completed the job, wipe the area well with a hot, soapy cloth to wash off the solvent (if any was used).
I just tried Peanut Butter, and it worked. No joke, Peanutbutter removes sticker glue.
A combination of peanut butter, Magic eraser and Dawn dish soap along with lots of rubbing, pretty much did the trick for me!!
NAIL POLISH REMOVER WORKED FOR ME
I would be careful what u use nail polish remover on IT CAN BURN PLASTICS!
No kidding. There is now a splotch on my laptop when it started to eat through 🙁
How did u use the nail polish can u explain please
I just put a little on a rag and rubbed for a while, and it worked pretty well (I did it on a hard cover book, and the color started to wear off a bit, but other than that it was fine)
didnt for me n I let it sit there for a few minutes
I tried the blow dryer olive oil , mayo I only left a few min but glue ate through finish I’m guessing when trying to remove with rubber spatula gently finish came off with glue
Tried the nail polish remover and it worked for me as
well, glue came off real easy ..Thanks
I was desperate so i tried lavender spray and it worked!!!Then i scrubbed it off with paperXD
The peanut butter was awesome!!! It worked, after trying every solvent, cleaner, WD40, and goo remover suggested on google!!! Wiped off with a soft cloth for the most part, but took my ceramic stove top scraper to get the rest of it off! 🙂 Happy!
PEANUT BUTTER WORKS!!! I still can’t believe it. Who’d a thunk it? SIMPLY AMAZING! (It was glue from the back of stick-on vinyl tiles.) I Tried “everything”, then went online and found this page. Saw the rave reviews for peanut butter. Had my doubts, fur sure…but now I’M A BELIEVER!
I just used peanut butter and it worked!! (:
Peanut Butter did it!!! I had tried hair spray, pine-sol, alcohol, among other things and then I read this. It didn’t even require any elbow grease! Thanks for the post!!
I used windex and it worked really well for me I had put really sticker things on my window and the stick wouldn’t come off and then when I used windex all I had to do was squirt it a couple times on all the stains and and put a little elbow into the scrubbing and it came off in 2 minutes!!!! Try it it really works!!!!!!!
Peanut butter did the trick after trying nail polish remover & rubbing alcohol. Thanks!
1. Definitely buy the least expensive generic. It contains more of the label-removing component!
2. Save your fingernails and don’t risk scratching the container surface with a butter (or other)knife. Use the end of your wooden spoon!
Same here! Had a horrendous sticky mess from a TJ Maxx label on an otherwise beautiful mirror-finish silver picture frame. I didn’t dare go to Goo-Be-Gone for fear of damaging the surface. Soap, olive oil, and hand lotion didn’t do much of anything. But peanut butter saved the day! I left it on for about 5 minutes, and then started to wipe, and with two applications, the whole sorry mess was gone. Great tip!
Peanut butter is a wonderful solution! It worked perfectly for the sticky tape gooey. Thanks
Thanks Susan and the rest of the peanut butter brigade.
i took sticker off a new plastic coffee mug and the adhesive was a mess.
put on PB all over it and left it for awhile.
used paper towel to wipe it off, ALL GONE.
Peanut butter isn’t the solution. It’s the solvent. Little science joke.
Hi
Before I go and buy PB,do you think it will work on Aluminium Silver Anodised window frames,I used selotape to cut out drafts and it has left sticky residue,I don’t want to damage the silver, can you help.
Many thank s John.
My problem: I placed a plastic container in the dishwasher. The bad part is I didn’t realize it had a sticky label which disintegrated and it’s now inside the hoses and inner workings. The dishwasher has been leaving bits and pieces of it on the dishes during the rinse cycle. Before realizing what it was, I ran it over and over with 1-½ cup vinegar to no avail. Once we took apart the bottom and sprayers to clean it thinking it was hard water deposits and finding shreds of this label, I’m tackling it with another strategy. I was about to try running it empty of dishes once more but with Goo Gone instead of vinegar. After reading all your comments I think a safer option is to run it with peanut butter. Worth a try, I think…
I’ve had duct tape on my water bottle for about 5 years, and I took it off yesterday. I have never seen anything gooey-er. I put peanut butter on the residue, let it sit for 10 minutes or so, took a sponge and some water, and wa-la!! All that nasty duct tape is gone.
I would not have believed it until i tried it absolutely brilliant ! what is in peanut butter to remove all that gluey sticky stuff thats what i would like to know ! thank you so much for the tip i will pass that one on.
It’s the oil in peanut butter.
I really think it is just the oil in peanut better, it works on gum in kids hair too.
The PERFUME TRICK WORKS on my motorcycle sticker residue…
laptop sticker residue came off rubbing with perfume.
thnx
Toothpaste (I used Crest Extra Strength Whitening – Clean Mint flavour) works amazingly well on my laptop, especially paired with no-name disinfectant wipes to clean off the toothpaste. I think the “whitening” formula works well because it’s a little gritty. 🙂
Totally worked
Perfume works like the best
Used aftershave, and it cut the glue from a sticker on the back of my (plastic) phone case. Worked fast too.
aftershave worked for me too on back my phone … it rubbed off the gooey from it quick with a cloth.
Oh my gosh!!! I heated up the sticker on my wooden guitar and peeled it off, but there was still annoying sticky residue left! So I rubbed on some perfume, and now my guitar is spotless and beautiful! Thanks for the post! 😀
Okay, I had the hardest time trying to remove old adhesive from a metal object; tried polish remover–so so only worked so much; next, Windex, same thing, next, Magic Eraser, same thing. Finally, the peanut butter – VOILA! Go directly to Peanut Butter; don’t waste time with the other stuff!
It work on my ipod too! Made it look bran new!
That’s amazing! It just worked for me too. I’m in awe!
amazing the peanut butter worked instantly! whoever discovered this is a a god sent-i have been so annoyed with the sticker residue, it drives me crazy, now i know how to remove instantly. Thank You
Peanut butter just worked beautifully for me–can’t believe it! I was taking labels off of glass jars–nail polish remover did a little-but a thin smear of PB and rubbing with a paper towel got them slick-smooth!!
I AM TOTALLY AMAZED. . . . peanut butter!!!!
We’d bought a new bathroom light fixture and there were labels on it that when removed left the most horrendous sticky mess. My husband was set to return the light fixture and I saw a post here about peanut butter. Long story short. . . all that mess is gone, no scratches and my husband is right now putting up the fixture. Peanut butter REALLY worked!
unbelievably, peanut butter removed duct tape residue in no time.. leaving no marks, no scratches, no goo..
This just renewed my faith in the internet. 😀
no peanut.. just butter.
I do not have peanut butter at home.
I just try with butter, it works too. Thanks!
as kids we used to get covered in creosote and tar playing in the railway yard – my mum put plain old butter on it and voila gone!!!!
I tried everything. Cleaners, rubbing alcohol, vinegar, peanut butter and dish soap. Have to say peanut butter worked the best out of those. But, what did the trick was Orange oil based wood furniture polish. Instantly removed my sticky mess.
Peanut Butter…definitely. I was ready to return my metal water bottle, but thought I’d give PB a try. Worked great!
Rubbing olive oil on my water bottle did the trick for me
I agree with peanut butter working great. My new wood table had streaks for a tacky substance from setting a box on the table. I was worried about removing the finish on the table and figured peanut butter would be safest.
It worked well and the oil in the peanut butter polished at the same time!
Now I have another reason to Love peanut butter. My wife thinks I,m a genius. Well, not an idiot at least.
My wife laughed when I pulled out peanut butter. She had tried most of the solutions on the list above to remove duct tape glue to no avail. The peanut butter worked like a charm and required almost no effort to get off the glue. As a bonus it won me a case of beer.
Ok, read all this and figure, eh, couldn’t hurt right? I had stickiness left on a sandal I just bought where a price tag was. And go figure, it worked. Never would’ve thought of it!
the best thing to remove duct tape is more duct tape!! just roll it in a ball, sticky side out and rub it around on the residue (kinda like rolling cookie dough into a ball).
Peanut butter, worked like a charm
De-stuck the glue, without any harm.
A favorite of kids, now a favorite of mine
Whenever I need to get rid of some grime.
🙂
Peanut butter also works to remove gum froma a child’s hair
I will try the peanut butter on my glass cups, but I have some labels stuck on some expensive cloth placemats! What shouls i use to remove that sticky goo?
You can use the peanut butter on cloth as well as long as you immediately put some dawn dish soapt on it afterward and rinse it out. (manual soap not the one for machines) I have done it before with success on polyester. If not this try fels nape laundry soap. (check ace hardware)
fels naptha soap**
WOW AMAZING!!! I just tried Peanut Butter and it removed the glue instantly after trying nail remover, windex, and shaving with a razor. My star mirror looks great!
We had some heavy duty tape adhesive on our boat and we used the peanut butter as per recommendation and really works. We were really impressed.
The peanut butter worked! thanks for the tip! It was old adhesive tape on lacquered bronze.
Peanut Butter only worked after I first applied goo gone
I had some plastic pencil holder from office max and the sticker did not come off clean AT all. I had the sticky residue left. I had soaked them in vinegar and scolding hot soapy water. That didn’t worked and i do have the patience for scrubbing for 30minutes nor the time. So then I tried nail polish remover. That was a definite no go!!! So igoogled “how to” abd found this site. Everyone kept talking about the peanut butter and guess what I’m with the PB fans!!!! I usually think the web sometimes is a gimmick with stuff like this but this really did work. I just let them soak in hot water for about an hour dried the items off and smeared PB on the glue with a butter knife. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then wipe off with paper towel. Some spots I had scrape with my figure nail but it wasn’t almost instantly clean. The PB got most of it off with one wipe!! Yes a peanut butter believer!!!!
Ok. I soaked my plastic pencil holders in hot water to help loosen it up a bit. Then I smeared PEANUT BUTTER on it with a butter knife and waited 10-15 minutes and viola!!! The glue was gone. Had to scrape a little with nail with the peanut butter but overall worked really well!!!! Came clean with one wipe!!! AWESOME!!
I just used eucalyptus on a cream pashmina scarf which had the sticky residue from the label. I just soaked the residue for a couple of minutes, then it just peeled off…….worked like magic…very happy thank you 🙂
Yep PB did the trick on clear plastic bowls. Unfortunately tried goof off and polish remover 1st. Big mistake, it marred the surface so bad can’t use it, & it didn’t remove the sticky goo but have 2 more that looks great. Thanx, almost didn’t try PB cause it sounded so crazy.
I was skeptical about the peanut butter thing but I tried it and it took the sticker and label goo off of my laptop computer with very little effort whatsoever……Thanks so very much for the awesome tip and I will recommend this site to my friends!
Believe it or not, we used peanut butter on doll hair after reading this page. Monster High and Ever After High dolls have a problem with glue leakage in their hair. We tried everything we had found, short of boiling water treatment, and nothing worked. I thought it couldn’t get any worse so, we tried peanut butter and low and behold. It Worked! We washed the peanut butter out with Dawn dish soap, let it dry and combed it out. It is silky and manageable now.
We work at a video store, and we use Eucalyptus oil to remove old stickers and sticker marks from our DVD cases. It really helps clear your sinuses at the same time :p
I’m not sure of the availability outside of Australia though, or what similar products there would be? I assume any kind of rubbing oil might work just as well but I have not tried it.
It also worked to get old, brown stickytape/cellotape stickiness off the laminate drawers 🙂
Holy crap! Eucalyptus Oil just saved me so much time.
I’ve been trying innumerable harsh solvents and pungent cleaning solutions in vain..
But this by far works the best (on plastics), you barely even have to scrub and it smells great.
Who would’ve known?
Thanks.
Me TOO! Great tip.
Wow! I had some eucalyptus oil lying around and it works like magic on even the gummiest of old stickers. Comes right off without any pressure at all. I was looking all over the internet for a solution! Thanks!
Wow, eucalyptus worked amazing! Thanks for this tip!!
Fantastic results – thanks
I threw a few drops of Eukalyptus oil onto a stubborn glue-stain on a stainless steel dish, and it was gone instantly! Brilliant suggestion!!!
fyi, US residents can find such oils at stores like Whole Foods and such, often in the health/vitamin/etc section, often as part of a very large selection of different scented oils.
I used 4 of the solvents from the above list. None worked on glue on a plastic container. Eucalyptus oil took it off so easily. Wish I had tried it first!
Pure eucalypstus oil is obtainable from Chemists in NZ, around $11 per small bottle.
Wow, Eucalyptus Oil is great! I tried baby oil and nail polish remover..took me ages and didn’t get much off.. When I tried Eucalyptus Oil, I got everything out in minutes!
Plus, eucalyptus oil is really cheap here..only costs around $2-3 😀
Used Eucalyptus oil on my laptop to remove an Intel sticker, and worked after a few minutes of scrubbing! Thanks A Lot!! 😀
I’ve used strong Japanese peppermint oil for years. (In Norway it sells under the name of JHP Oil) Simply add a few drops and gently rub the oil in with your finger. Let oil work for a couple of minutes vhile enjoying the nice smell, then wipe off. Works like a charm!
You can get Eucalyptus oil in the U.S.A. at most health food stores. Sadly its not as easy to find in smaller towns but the cities have heaps of heath food stores.
You win!! LOL
I was working on removing sticker glue residue from both sides of a plastic bottle. I tried nail polish remover, Windex, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, concentrated lemon juice all without much luck. With so many on here raving about the peanut butter, I gave it a try. I worked on one side and scrubbed and scrubbed. I then put it under very hot water and cleaned it with a plastic bristle brush. I finally got MOST of it off.
I saw your tip about the eucalyptus oil. I didn’t have eucalyptus oil, but I had germanium essential oil. I used it to get the remaining residue off the one side and it worked well. I didn’t know how well it would work on the untouched side but it came off super easy. It wiped away in no time with no scrubbing necessary.
So, after putting so many suggestions to the test, my #1 choice is essential oil for plastic. I’m definitely going to keep it in mind when needed for other surfaces also.
I used a combination of these things.
First i tried to scratch some off with my nails. Then I used rubbing alchohol and a wet cloth and rubbed hard. Then i put some air freshener spray on it and rubbed that in (that removed the stickiness but left the residue). Then what finally worked was i warmed it hot with a hair dryer. Then i used a MAGIC RUB WHICH FINALLY COMPLETED IT. Rub really hard in the affected area (but not in anywhere else as it could rub the coloring off). And then take a wet cloth and rub and voilá.
i just used petroleum jelly on my laptop after removing the stickers. i put some on my finger and rubbed it around the area and it was alll gone. i had to wipe it down afterward with soap though to get the jelly off my laptop. but seriously it worked like frosted flakes. more than good. its great
I tried everything to get the stickers off my laptop. I tried using an eraser and fingernail polish remover and nothing seem to work. I tried petroleum jelly and it took the sticker right off. I had a a spot that didn’t want to come off and had to scrape it with my fingernail, but the petroleum jelly worked great!
I tried everything that was toxic/caustic to remove the gum off of this vinyl tubing. The Homedepot people quadruple wrapped this tape around the tubing and then the tubing was somehow lost under the their shelving. I was looking for this tubing last night and happened to see this roll of tubing sitting in the dust under their shelves. The tape’s gum had sort of melted all over the plastic. It was bad!
Petroleum Jelly to the rescue! I wiped down the entire 10 foot length of tubing and the gum came right off, first pass. Cool! I can’t say I love anything more than the Internet.
Baby oil works really well. Just drip some on the spot, rub it in with your fingers for a few seconds and then wipe off. The oil takes the adhesive right with it.
Yes petroleum jelly does work for the sticker residue. I just got my labtop yesturday and had took off the sticker on the laptop. This huge residue was left from the sticker. Lucky petroleum jelly does work!!!! Just spread a small amount of jelly in the area and use a paper towel and scrap it off with fingers, sometimes nails works too for the stubborn residue.
THANKS TO THIS ARTICLE MY LAPTOP IS FREE OF RESIDUE THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
After scraping the label off by use of a new razor blade, use pvc pipe cleaner to remove the adhesive. Simply wipe on and leave for several seconds, and then wipe off with paper towel(can purchase at any hardware store, e.g. Lowes for a few dollers).
Removing glue from white macbook: Use petroleum jelly.
For a while I had a plastic sheet on the track-pad and palm surface. Looked fine then started to peal off.
Removed it and was left with all the glue on the surface of my laptop.
Panic…!!! Couldn’t track or rest my hands anymore.
Anyways, I used petroleum jelly (vaseline) and it worked perfectly.
Step 1: Rubbed in the gelly; not too much.let it set in for a few secec
Step 2: Rub off in one dircetion with an old cotton towel.
Step 3: Leaves some goo but this can be rubbed of with your fingers.
Repeat the above steps.
Good luck.
I had the same problem with the stickers i peeled off from my white macbook, tried perfume and some nail polish remover but what did the trick was olive oil, smooth and shiny!
I used olive oil for a sticker name tag on my school computer and it rubbed write off leaving it nice and shiny!
After trying rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover I searched online and the first thing I tried was extra virgin olive oil, worked like a charm to get sticker residue off of of plastic!
Adhesive under stick on floor tiles: Just read your tips. The floor tiles came up easily. Then I sprayed the residual goo with WD40. Let it sit for 2 minutes and wiped the excess WD40 and all of the goo away. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW EASILY ALL THAT TACKY MESS DISAPPEARED. And my rag washed clean!!!!!
Thanks for the tip! WD40 worked great!
WOW!!! Started to take up adhesive vinyl floor tiles yesterday and was left with an awful sticky mess. Just read your posts and luckily had some WD-40 in the cupboard. It was amazing. Thank you so much guys for your tip. There is now light at the end of what was looking to be a very long tunnel!!
Thank god i found this. I have been trying to remove glue on my shower stall for a month. Never guessed WD40 would do the trick. I just sprayed it on, left for 2 minutes and it came right off no scrubbing. Wish I would of known that, I had already put in a lot of scrubbing on that.
Thank you!! Beautiful new bathroom and as soon as you looked at the shower stall – yuck. Had to do it twice, leaving for 5 minutes each time. A good dose of simple green after (to clean off the residue and make it smell a little “prettier” and it all worked like a charm.
Amazing! I had to use 3 rounds of WD40 and scrape with a stiff spatula, but it came off finally! I was dealing with a pretty thick layer of adhesive left over from taking up an old shower mat in the tub. Thank you!
I have been ripping old “linoleum tiles” out from under old lanoleum…took me 3 days and now i’m left with a sticky completely ripped up floor. Trying to put another layer of lanoleum over this glue would be next to impossible since you have to lay it down first then take it all out again and THEN glue it with normal freakin’ glue. It’s like black tar glue which is, I assume, what they did back in the day because they thought it would last forever or something. I had some old paint thinner and it takes a bit of elbow grease and a stinnnnnky house for a day but that tar glue just swipes off and now it’s possible to re-lanoleum the kitchen! Thanks for the advice ppl 🙂
If all else fails, and you are ‘stuck’ with the glue, you can stop its stickiness by dusting it with talcum powder.
I have a baby blue Fender Telecaster that was covered with stickers. I decided to take it them off. The glue remained! So what i did was take some petroleum jelly and rubbed it on with my fingers, then i came back with a dry cotton towel and rubbed it off. The pickguard on my guitar still has the goo on it…its harder to get off then the clear coat finish on the guitar body. Any ideas?
I would give lighter fluid a try, I have cleaned up some of my guitars pickguards with it. I would NOT recommend this for the body of the guitar.
I use rubbing alcohol to get sticky off of my husband’s guitars. He likes to take off the little black stickers that are on new guitars and sometimes they leave the sticky behind. The rubbing alcohol works great! It doesn’t leave marks on the metal or plastic parts either. 🙂
didn’t have any mineral oil and didn’t want to wait two hours for vegetable oil so i used margarine. i rubbed it in and let it sit for about a minute. then i got impatient and tried to see if the goo was starting to come off. then i rinsed it off in the sink with the scrubby with soap and it worked perfect.
fender guitar pickguard: just replace the pick guard they are cheap and it will look like a new guitar.
Thanks – great advice – the nail polish remover did the trick in 15 seconds.
I WAS GOING TO INSTALL LAMINATE FLOORING BUT MY VINYL TILE WAS IN POOR CONDITION I REMOVED THE TILE HAD GLUE ON THE FLOOR SPRINKLED CHEAP BABY POWDER ON THE FLOOR THEN VACUUMED THE FLOORING A WHIZ TO INSTALL.
I had glue coming up through the floor boards of our laminate wood floor, it had been there for a while and every time I tried something different that never worked I gave up.
I tried mineral spirits, I used a hard bristle tooth brush to gently brush at the black goo, left it to sit while I went to the next area over and then used the scrubby side of a dish washing spong to gently scrub the area where the mineral spirits had been sitting, it came right up. Total time to do a 2 foot square section took about 5 minutes. I worked from one end of the room to the other. Took a lot less time than I thought but still took a couple of hours. I also wiped the area clean with a seperate soapy sponge after scrubbing it so that the mineral spirits didn’t sit on the laminate and damage it.
NOW I am looking for help in finding a sealer so that the floor will shine again. The shine was gone before I cleaned the black goo off.
Any help would be appreciated!

Stands back from the keyboard in azamemnet! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this. I removed the very old leftover sticky glue from scotch tape with nailpolish remover in a matter of a couple minutes!!
I am a schoolteacher and used contact paper to attach the kids’ name tags to their desks… which I have pretty much vowed never to do again (though I am thinking about it after this article- the removal was much easier than I thought!) Anyway, after goo-goning forever, I tried the baking soda and water paste and it worked like a charm. I put it on, left if for a few minutes, then went back and just rubbed the sticky spots with my fingers. Cleanup from the paste was a little messy, but that’s what vacuums are for!
I tried the hairdryer and wet cloth for the glue left from a sticker on my notebook but it did not work that well.
I then tried nail polish cleaner and that was not successful.
Then I tried PERFUME and vola, the glue came off perfectly.
I notice PERFUME is not on your list, maybe this should be added.
Perfume works perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would say better than the nail polish remover !
Perfume is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!
I even used a cheap body spray and the residue from contact paper wiped right off with a paper towel!! And now the house smells beautiful too!
Maybe it was the alcohol in the perfume.
tooth paste works ok but perfume is the best
I have a jet ski and i pulled the decals of the side and there was a think layer of adhesive residue left. Ive tried everything including commercial products and nothing will work. Does anyone have additional ideas that they know will work for this situation? Any help is appreciated!
Use WD-40 leave 2 minutes and wipe off easy as pie. We took decals off motor bike left sticky mess on the plastic, not a problem. Before trying the wd-40, we tried metho, kero, scrubbing with dish washing liquid and soft course steel wool, nothing worked. Tried the WD-40 wiped off easy as wiping water off a table.
Had a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, the goo slid off like butter, thanks 🙂
Mr. Clean Eraser was absolutely worthless for me.
I have glue left on two surfaces black metal & black plastic.
That Valco kind that sticks to surfaces can’t remove the goo stuck on these surfaces!
Can anyone help!
I had decades-old sticker glue on some glass apothecary jars. Tried the rubbing alcohol, peanut butter, toothpaste, baking soda; none worked. Finally tried the nail polish remover and the goo came off in two seconds flat. No kidding!
Wow! I used everclear in the place of rubbing alcohol and it worked miracles! The glue immediately started coming off and I think dissolved.
Johnsons paste floor wax works quickly and easily. Apply it lightly and wipe off with a paper towel. I stick baggage tags to my passport and this removes any adhesive left under the tag without harming the passport cover.
Does anyone know the science behind this tip? WHY does Petroleum jelly and other products with petroleum in them get rid of the goo? Just curious.
Anything oil based will remove any glue like substance. For a test, put any type of oil on chewing gum (used or unused) and see how it looses it’s elasticity.
A substance that is lipophilic (“fat-loving”) is soluable in fat or oil. I’ve noticed that sticker residue repels water, so something that can mix with oil would most likely do the trick.
I took the AMD Processor sticker off from my laptop and it left this sticky residue. I tried many things like Cilit Bang, which didn’t work. So I searched google and this webpage came up, the one which I found the solution and the one that I am writing this comment from. I used Vaseline(Petroleum Jelly) it worked brilliantly, I just applied left for a few minutes then rubbed off hard with a cotton towel and repeated. Also now my laptop is feeling smooth and new again!
DONT USE WATER AND A PAPER TOWEL.. it will smear the sticky 🙂
I used a tablespoon and a half mixed with just enough water to make the mixture stick together (teaspoon and a quarter). I rubbed the mixture with my finger on my hardcover textbook, and voila, 45 seconds later i was completely residue free!
I have been given a greenhouse with green paint. There’s loads of mastic in the ridges….I need to remove the mastic so that I can use reuseable rubber seals. The ridges are small and difficult to clear.
Has anyone any ideas how to remove the mastic without ruining the paint?
I sat on some mastic tape, and it left a gooey black splotch on my rear left pocket. I used Goo Gone according to its directions for clothing as printed on the label. The mastic is gone!
I got the Goo Gone at Dollar Tree for $1, too.
I’m removing the stickers from my laptop as I am preparing to paint and decal it. I first tried nail polish remover which wound up spreading the adhesive and residue. But worked for me was baby oil gel (we get the kind with aloe vera and vitamin e because its great for sunburns) a couple of times. Then to make sure the baby oil gel was completely off, I used Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover (also great for removing stickers and reside from scotch tape).
This is the short version, the long version is more fun but I wasn’t sure if a “story” was wanted sooo… I found a small corn snake, stuck from neck to tail in several (horrible) glue traps. Fortuntely the end of his nose was free so he didn’t smother. I called a snake expert, animal welfare etc… all said no way to free alive so kindest to kill. Huh? Anyway, I carefully worked my fingers under snake putting bits of paper towel on freed areas to prevent resticking & little by little got him out. He was still very sticky so I put him in an empty aquarium with a little wheat flour. The flour coated & worked into the glue as “Sticky” moved making long streamers that came off easily. Then I rinsed him but was still a little sticky so we (notice the pronoun change) kept him a few weeks, until he shed. He was doing fine so I released him back into the wild. He was very tame & the kids wanted to keep him but I was not comfortable feeding him live mice & my roommate had phobia.
Hello Alice, Glad to see you are saving snakes. Letting them go back into the wild. I ‘m hoping you are who I think you are. We were very lucky we found no snakes on our trip down the side of the gorge in Akron Ohio as young girls.
Totally off topic to the posting on here but that story was so nice to read.
Thank you!
the baby oil really works! thanks!
IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT IS SMALL ENOUGH TO FIT IN THE SINK (OR A BATHTUB WITH A HAND HELD SHOWER)AND IT WONT HE HARMED BY WATER, THIS IS THE BEST! TURN YOUR HOT WATER TANK UP TO THE HIGHEST SETTING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. LET THE HOT WATER RUN ON IT FOR A MINUTE OR TWO AND WASH WITH DAWN DISH DETERGENT. WASHES RIGHT OFF!! JUST REMEMBER TO TURN YOUR HOT WATER TANK BACK DOWN, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN.
I removed vista sticker from my laptop (HP pavilion dv6 black) and got sticky residue. Baby oil worked really great.
Thanks
wow i used toothpaste for the soft glue residue and voila gone in 60 secs wohoooo thanks a bunch m8
“I took the AMD Processor sticker off from my laptop”
Wow.. I just did the exact same thing, with the exact same problem. AMD should change that, eh? ;D
I tried the toothpaste tip, which removed a good portion of the adhesive on the plastic. It left a bit of residue that’s noticeable if you look at it carefully, but it’s good enough for me. :>
For those wondering the science, it’s because the sticky residue is a polar compound, and that along with the intrinsic stickiness means water (a polar solvent) and force doesn’t remove it, but a non-polar solvent (such as petroleum jelly, mineral spirits, gasoline, WD-40, ect) will remove the non-polar residue. Gotta love chemistry, everything is chemistry that is govern by physics.
Just learned that in my chemistry class. oh ya
Hey lkky here is one for you….I removed embroidered patches that have been sewn to a leather jacket, upon removing them I found that they had used some type of glue to put them on before sewing. This glue left a very thick, clear, hard surface under the patch on the leather. I have used Extreme Goo Gone, and another cleaner that said it would clean it up with neither working…any ideas?
I removed the labels that were on my laptop as they were beginning to fade and the surface was slightly sticky…I read through these tips and used nail enamel remover.
I just put a little of the product on a dry washer and wiped around this said surface. It reduced the stickiness just like I thought!
Tea Tree Oil… hands down, seriously. I always keep a little bottle of this oil around. For removal of glue of ANY kind, please don’t bother with anything else. I tried everything from vinegar, rubbing alcohol, peanut butter, or soaking in hot water, etc etc. Nothing works like tea tree oil.
Just tried tea tree oil to remove the idot stickers on the bottom rail of our new set of cordless retractable pleated shades. (We purchased these shades so as not to have potentially dangerous cords hanging around – yet they put the danger sticker on anyway, but that’s yet a different issue.) The tea tree oil worked wonderfully removing the sticky residue off of the hard plastic rails – and we don’t have any lingering annoying chemical smell – just the fresh smell of tea tree oil.
i just removed a stickers on the inside of my new laptop.. all removed but one stubborn one! and i tried rubbing alcohol… DID NOT WORK..
NAIL POLISH REMOVER did do the trick!! 🙂 thanks guys.
How to remove a label from a metal can without destroying (damage) the label
so it can be used again?
Regards
Roe
Don’t know if this will help you, but I remember as a kid, soaking a bunch of my Dad’s wine bottles in the bathtub to get the labels off so he could keep them in an album instead of keeping all the bottles. (I’m sure this was my Mom’s idea). If you are able to put the can in water, the label can be soaked off over night, then removed from the water and left to air dry on a flat surface.
BABY OIL does the trick, thanks….
baby oil works like a charm. i had adhesive on a metal bracelet from the label. i used johnson and johnson baby oil and it came off within a few minutes – 2-3 minutes to be exact.
I tried the nail polisher remover, it works really quickly. I had some sticker residue on my laptop, and it removed them all.
I haven’t tried anything else. (btw: the smell from the nail polish remover, stays.
ITS SO SAD. NOTHING WORKS FOR ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IVE TRIED BABY OIL, ALCOHOL, PEANUT BUTTER, HAIRDRYER, NAILPOLISH REMOVERRRR… ARGGGHHHHHH
Duct tape baked on window all summer. WD-40 cleaned everything up
thanks for all the info. i just used lavender massage oil…it worked great. and my computer smells nice as well! i was afraid of the nail polish remover smell, so somewhat reluctant to use it!
After despairing that I had none of the 25 items listed (how can that be?) to remove the sticker-goo from my laptop, I went rummaging in the bathroom and found — to my heart’s ecstasy — my aftershave. It seems obvious, but having dismissed rubbing alcohol as being not within my known possession, it never occurred to me that aftershave is basically the same stuff in a different bottle.
It did the trick in seconds, though it should be noted that it didn’t work directly on the goo — I had to vigorously rub a Kleenex over the goo to get the linty stuff stuck to the adhesive, then the aftershave would remove the Kleenex — and with it, the glue. A couple repetitions and you would never know my laptop has been wearing not one but two nametags for a year now. Long story.
I tried almost all of the options above….toothpaste helped…lotion was useless as was the oil. I went into the kitchen to wash my hands and saw the big yellow bottle of Comet…so I figured what the heck..lets try it….Comet took the goo off in SECONDS!!! After wasting more than 3 weeks worth of toothpaste, some oil, trying the hair dryer, soap and water, windex, rubbing alcohol, nailpolish remover…..spent an hour an a half trying and Comet did the job like magic!!!
haha you might as well have used emery paper
We used the petrolium jelly to get sticker residue off of a folding table and it worked wonders. Thanks for all of the great all ideas!
A combination of heat and rubbing then petroleum jelly with more rubbing, finally neat washing up liquid to get the last off. Also used cloth tea towels and half a roll of kitchen towel. Took about an hour. Major pain!!
Toothpaste worked an absolute charm for me, took less than a minute. And now my portfolio smells minty fresh! Thanks =]
Thank you thank you – the WD40 did the job – well done thanks for the info
Hey guys, I just found my baby corn snake hanging from a piece of duct tape that had been at the top of his tall tank temporarily holding the corner of the screen in. How he managed that one we’ll never know. Of course I quickly google’d what I could do and read lots of suggestions but I decided to try olive oil because I knew it wouldn’t be harmful to him. I used a Q tip and slowly applied liberally all around where he was stuck, I continued to stroke in the direction of his scales for a few minutes and made sure he stayed calm and didn’t tare himself. He wiggled a bit which actually kinda helped and he was free with patience. If anyone finds their reptile in a sticky situation like I did I definatly recommend OLIVE OIL!!
hehehe. Your story makes me happy. I’m glad you rescued the snake. 🙂
PAINT THINNER worked! I have a metal casing for my phone and now it’s all clean! THANKS! ^^ o.O
My former tenants put up temporary screens in the doorways, using double-backed BLACK velcro tape to hang them. After being up there for a while, those things stuck to the WHITE door frame like crazy glue. I was able to scrape some of it off but I started taking chunks out of the wood so I stopped.
Since I did not have hardly any of the items on the list and I didn’t feel like going to the store OR using my olive oil, I decided to use Walmart’s brand of cooking spray and it worked great. I sprayed ot on fairly heavy and let it set for about 30 minutes then using some Dawn soapy water and a green scrubber, I managed to get it off. I figured if cooking oil works and WD40 works why not cooking spray??
You can also use an eraser and it works well.
I use a white eraser. Took a little elbo greese but it got off tape from a window chemical free.
Hello,
I need help on how to remove ALTICO glue from surfaces like plastic and chrome.
I glued my care window buttom key holder and damaged the surface
also the same happened on the car consol
If you can help it will be much appreciated
Regards
Do be careful, however, if you use nail polish remover or other acid/alcohol-based products. Depending on the item you are cleaning, it may eat away at the paint or surface.
Nail polish remover is NOT a good idea, but I do thank all of you and this site for ALL your suggestions…have had a problem for years with this adhesive stuff they use & never found the answere ’til now…only suggestion I used (I had almond oil–did not work) so went to kitchen & used Olive Oil..for my residue on lipstick tube & it worked perfectly! Am printing this list of suggestions, in case I forget..for FUTURE USE…as I know so many manufacturers does this sort of thing: attach labels with sticky goo/glue!…Thanks again!!!…Lois
I read the reviews for using eucalyptus oil and was pretty sure I had some. I didn’t. I found peppermint oil though and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the help!
I Used WD-40 and it worked perfect!!!!!! just spray on affected area and wipe with cloth!! easy!!!!!!!!!
I bought some office supplies (Tacs, Clips, etc) that came in a nifty little desk organizer for them. Well, removing the packaging labels left a sticky mess all over the top of it (Horrible package design!).
I did some searches and ended up here, when in the list I saw my “magic item.”
Good old light fluid. I sprayed a tiny bit on, let it sit for just a couple seconds and wiped it right off – clean as it the goo had never been there.
I jumped to lighter fluid straight away because I know it works just as well to remove dry wax from desktops and whatnot, so I figured it’d probably dissolve glue too.
Best of luck in your “Anti-Goo” adventures!
Turpentine has not been mentioned at all yet. It is my first goto. It will work on 90% of all labels on home goods and containers. It bleeds under the edge of a non-porous label allowing gradual peeling, but will instantly soak through the face of a porous one. As with all solvents, a trial in a hidden spot is advised.
I pried up some old tiles from my laundry room. Now I have sticky residue. I just tried powder on one 12″x12″ section. It does take away the stickiness but I’m wondering if, when I sand the floor to prep for new tile, will the stickiness come back.
What works best for old tile glue residue??? Can anybody help?
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Nail polish remover worked wonderfully!
i laughed when i read purfume, then i gave it a try since it was right next to the bathtub with the sticky goo i needed to get off. the purfume and my fingernail worked great and smelled nice too! thanks for the tip 🙂
Off Bug Spray with a kleenx just spay the kleenx and then rub lots it will make the tuffest glue spots rub right away!
I had sticky goo on filing cabinets in my garage left behind from masking tape (used to label, bad idea). I tried a lot of different materials (nail polish remover, vegetable oil, peanut butter, rubbing alcohol, cologne, etc.) but nothing was working well, unless I went to town on it, scrubbing with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Eventually, I tried Off! bug spray, with Kleenex, which worked quite well at removing the majority of the goo. I had to use it sparingly though; it seemed to remove some of the finish on the metal cabinets. Whatever goo was left after a good scrubbing with the Off!/Kleenex combo was easily removed with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
Thanks for the tip!
I tried cloudy ammonia
Then I tried white petroleum jelly (I guess it’s the wrong one, Vaseline)
Then I tried some sort of lubricator
Then I tried the alcohol and rubbed it vigorously with my finger (even after it burns) and soon got it smudged all over the area. I continuously added alcohol till it was all gone. Great!
started with my favorite product as a sinus sufferer…..Vicks Vaporub! It eliminated the stickiness leaving only the evidence of a prior adhesive and then elbow grease woth murphy’s oil or pledge. I was afraid to use acetone on my antique wood find so I opted for vicks since everyone here was sharing oil bases and I figured vaseline and menthol oil has to be somewhat effective..that’s my submission! Happy cleaning!
I have black glossy furniture with sticky marks from the packaging. I am afraid to use some of these cleaning tips for fear of damaging them. Anyone know if any of these products would be safe?
Peanut butter, toothpaste, olive oil, vinegar, windex, mr. muscle, pledge, petroleum jelly….none have worked for me.. finally tried nail polish remover and it’s helping some, still in the process of getting the rest off. if I had to suggest one thing it’d be nail polish remover but even that has taken about 7 times to make much of a difference. haha. best of luck 🙂
polish works a treat i used it to get stickers of my bike wheels.
I’m looking to remove some old masking tape advhesive off the back of my Cinema Display. It’s metal, aluminium is my best guess. I’m tried scraping but the display’s heat has made the adhesive a tacky nightmare. What kind of solution is suggested for working on such an interesting surface?
VASELINE!
I’m trying to find something that is not caustic, can be used on rubber, not harmful, & will remove very sticky medical tape residue from simulators we use. But…..we will need to use the tape again in another senario so the product needs to be able to be gentle and remove the tape, but not leave any residue so we can not retape the same spot. Any suggestions? thank you.
I have the exact same issue BP – did you find a solution? I am a medical rep with rubber simulators that the film adhesives have left a mess. I have tried nail polish remover, WD-40, toothpaste and a store-bought adhesive remover that smells like WD-40 (!!!)….nothing has worked. Did you manage to clean yours up?
I have a similar problem–needed to remove the residue from bunion pads on my swim fins (the inside corners of the fins create blisters on my big toes). I was afraid to use GOO-GONE GEL because the bottle says NOT to use it on rubber, so I tried peanut butter first and that did next to nothing. Then I tried WD-40 leaving it on for 5-10 minutes, which only softened the residue, but didn’t remove it. FINALLY, I tried the GOO-GONE. I soaked two cotton pads for each fin and left them on about 5minutes. GOO-GONE removed about 90% of the residue. Since I needed to apply another set of bunion pads, I needed to get the residue off, so I washed with an organic liquid handsoap, made by Sun and Earth. That worked well. I don’t know if you can do this with your equipment or not in very small amounts (with the Goo-Gone and the soap). Good Luck!
Wd40 is amazing!!!!!!
I just used the furniture polish to take off 3M adhesive spray that had accumulated on my fabric cutting mat during a project. IT worked like a dream! Just spray on and rub off with a towel, no residue left! Thanks.
I have a one that will remove the sticky stuff off of things that no one has metioned yet and it is Hand Santizer….It works every time.
The hand sanitizer probably has alcohol in it.
wow i just use toothpaste i rub it with tissue and it gone thank dude!!!
Had vinyl floor glue on hard wood flooring. Tried everything. Veggie oil worked very quickly and looks very pretty. Just rub on let sit a minute then clean with soap and water.
I had sticker residue on the inside of leather sandals. Tried nail polish remover and alcohol, neither of which worked. Tried Vaseline and that worked like a charm.
I painted my floors to look like tile and I finished by painting an adhesive on top. It looked great for a few years and now the adhesive is peeling off. How can I remove adhesive without removing the paint underneath? I might have to paint some squares again.
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I would like to know since I did not see this addressed, what to safely use when we are trying to get the sticky goo off of plastic to be used for food or water ?
Specifically I am asking because I bought a plastic water bowl for my dog, and the manufacturer placed a heinously sticky label right smack dab in the center of bowl……(why do they do this??? why don’t they THINK about placement and the ordeals consumers go through)
So I am now soaking it with olive oil; if it works I’ll let ya’ll know. The olvie oil seemed to me to be the safest of what I’ve read here today.
wow i can’t believe that hand sanitizer actually works.
I recommend this page to anyone!
Clay bar
Ive had mcchicken/mcfish sauce dried on my car for over a year, I have tried everything listed on this board and others, nothing worked, oils, solvents, food products… nada.
As a last resort I tried a clay bar(soft yellow clay used for car detailing) it worked. I have yet to try it on sticker glue, but imagine it should work in the same fashion.
Peanut butter worked really well on my laptop, just watch the crunchy bits don’t scratch.
I used canola oil on the bottom of a new fry pan and on a plastic grater cover. Both came clean with little effort. Thank you for being here for me on Thanksgiving day.
How do i get sticky substance remains left from the stcikers attached to my passport page? Much appreacited guys. Thanks
tea tree oil worked like a charm…..even cleaned the surface the sticker residue has smudged.
I was at the office, so read some of these tips and worked with what I had. I used chapstick (petroleum) and hand sanitizer (alcohol). Sticky goo rubbed right off with a kleenex after that.
i used first the perfume it didnt work than tried peroleunm gelly that took some off but still left that oily greasy sticky bit on my passport ;-( i will go with your suggestion Parket
Thanks ……….
Great page this, really glad I found it 😀
I got some toys for the kids for xmas off ebay (credit crunch n all that) and used the Tea Tree oil idea to get the sticky label marks off of the containers they came in. Applied using a cotton bud and left for a few mins… wiped right off with a bit of tissue and some elbow grease 🙂 Look good as new now and being Tea Tree I just disinfected them all too! (well you never know what sorta homes some people keep do you?)
My suggestion for (not really a glue, but sure is sticky and a P.I.T.A. to remove) the dreaded chewing gum out of upholstery / carpets.. is to sit an ice cube on it for a few minutes and then pick at it from underneath with a rounded end knife (like a butter knife or the like)
Another tip we used years ago when I used to work in an arcade was to spray it with hairspray holding the nozzle as close as possible so you got liquid not a mist then, again, pick off with a rounded end knife.
OMG.
So I had this sticker over the apple on my MacBook and when I took it off it was all goo. I used Up&Up window cleaner-just spray it on- and I rubbed my cloth in circles. THEN all the goo went to the white plastic of the computer and so I used some Tea Tree lotion to get it off! SO HAPPY!!! Thanks!!
My husband went to an interview and I guess I missed the name tag sticker, or it was some heavy duty glue, but either way his nice shirt now has a large square of set-in glue. Any ideas on what will get it out without ruining his shirt?
I surfed the net to find a safe and sure method of removing sticky label glue from plastic canisters that will be used for storing food. Peanut butter worked like a charm. I put a thin layer over the many sticky spots and left it on for approximately 20 minutes or so, then using my fingernails, I scraped all the areas to ensure that the glue was going to come off and then wiped all the covered areas with paper towel and washed the canisters in warm soapy water, and my containers are now glue free. And since I’m using these containers for food storage, I didn’t want to use any harmful chemicals (ie. WD-40, kerosene, lighter fluid, etc) on the off-chance that it might seep through the plastic. I recommend the peanut butter method wholeheartedly on plastic, especially if you’re going to be using the containers for food afterward.
Thanks for the great suggestions!!!
i tried cooking oil and it took the sticker residue off no probs.. THANKS 🙂
peanut butter and windex work good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got my table this sunday put it together but it had cardboard and adhesive stuck to it. Today i tried to get it off because i have company later. I tried so many things my hand hurts. First, I tried rubbing alchohol, then i tried 409 spray then i tried scraping it off then i tried lotion that seems to work well then i tried the blow dryer and soap and that smudges it but does make it smooth. then i tried perfume. what did end up working for me was a combination blow drying at first then after the smudge apply lotion and spritz the perfume and rub with a towel. Mine was a tough mess so maybe not as much work for a smaller adhesive stain. Perfume rocks!
Three cheers for WD-40! It cut right through the horrid residue left after removing the label from a clear plastic container of cole slaw from Publix.
i have tried many things to remove the stickiness that is left after the tiles were taken up off my store flore and no9thing on the list is working either.. it is a 1,000 square foot room. does anyone have any ideas??
My friend’s daughter applied Beacon’s Zip Dry (permanent adhesive) to my door to attach Christmas decorations. I have been unable to move it for the past two months until today. I have tried everything on the list with the exception of paint thinner, PVC pipe cleaner and kerosene. I decided to give google one more shot and came across this blog – # 29 saved my door paint and my security deposit. I heated the adhesive with my embossing tool and was able to remove it with Goo Gone. Thank you so much.
ooh! I hadn’t thought to use my heat tool!
I am a janitor in a church and the gym floor has old masking tape adhesive to mark the special polymer flooring for a game. I need to prep the floor for refinishing, so need to thoroughly remove the tape and residue quickly and easily (it’s a large area to cover). I saw suggestions with a hair dryer, but that didn’t sound like it would be very efficient. Thanks for suggesting the embossing tool. I will try it along with a few other suggestions here (WD40, Goo Gone, and peanut butter sound promising also).
I used nail polish remover with a cotton swab and let it sit for five minutes. There was hardly aa problem with the sticker coming off, but the adhesive still remained and has a sticky feeling. I’ll be trying some other techniques.
Tried peanut butter, dish soap, magic eraser (scratched surface), petroleum jelly, (smoothed the scratches) – nail polish remove – FINALLY I tried the Tree Tea Oil and it WORKED!!! thank you
So, I had a mishap with fabric glue and it got on my sundress…any thoughts on how to take this out? I tried soaking it in dawn….did not work….I’d appreciate ANY help!
Thank you kindly
After scrubbing away for what seemed like hours with every cleaning agent I could think of, I finally went out and bought the nail polish remover. I’m a rather straight male so I did not have any around the house ;-).
I was flabbergasted when it did not work! Then I read about the peanut butter, but it sounded kind of messy, so I tried olive oil, and viola! It worked perfectly. Thanks for the tips everyone and add olive oil to the list!

AN “I VOTED” STICKER WAS STUCK ON MY LEATHER JACKET. THE STICKER CAME OFF BUT IT LEFT MY JACKET WITH A BIG FADED SPOT. ANT IDEAS?
Wow!! I just tried the Olive Oil, it works like magic.
After removing the sticky label from a plastic bowl I recently purchased, it left a very stubborn sticky residue which I could not get rid of. I tried everything, but nothing worked. After days of scrubing and soaking, I was almost about to give up until I decided to give the olive oil a go. I left the olive oil in the bowl for about 2-3hrs, and was definately pleased with the results. It actually works.
Thanks for the great tips.
I bought a 4 drawer filing cabinet at a yard sale. It was a steal for $5.00, only trouble is, they used duct tape to keep the drawers shut, and then put it in storage for what looks like a few years. I have a mess ahead of me.
So far I have tried a few things, and will try to try them all to see what works the best.
4.Hand Lotion- did nothing, let it sit for awhile and still nothing.
5.Hair Spray- this worked a little bit, did start to remove some of it, but leaves a whole other sticky mess to clean up
6.Baby Oil (mineral oil)- did start to work, but is a mess to clean up after the fact.
8.Rubbing Alcohol- have used this in the past, it works really well for small things. I always buy the alcohol prep pads (like at the hospital) cause it already has a little pad to wipe with. But, for a job this big I bought a bottle, and poured it on. Works good, but very smelly, and is starting to take off some paint.
10.Baking Soda & Water Paste (just rub gently into the goo, then wipe off with a warm wet cloth) haven’t tried this yet, BUT let me tell you, for cleaning grease it works amazing. I used to clean my pots and pans with a toothbrush it is amazing.
11.Lighter Fluid- works but is very hard on the breathing.
13.WD-40 (set for 5 minutes)- also works pretty good, again hard on the breathing, and kind of oily to clean up, as I am not able to wash it in the sink of soapy water.
17.Peanut Butter- was suprised at how well this worked, so far it may be the best.
18.Vegetable Oil / Olive Oil (set for about 2 hours)- I havent tried this, the margarine, or cooking spray yet. I assume the reason the peanut butter works so well is because of the oil, so I am going to try them.
21.Mayonnaise (leave set for a few hours or overnight)- haven’t tried it yet but again assume it works because of the oil.
25.Eucalyptus Oil- this I am gonna try, I bet we all have this in our home and don’t realize it, Vick’s Vapor Rub! It only has 1.2% eucalyptus in it and works amazing, so I assume the actual oil will work really well. Plus it opens the airway and smells nice.
Once I try the other I will post my results!
Im back, I forgot to add earlier, the reason the hand sanitizer works is because it has rubbing alcohol in it. So my filing cabinet had a row of tape on one side of the handle and a row of tape on the other side, these run the length of the drawers so I have 2 strips of really old tape about 4-5 feet long. So this morning I put some cooking spray on one part, some veggie oil on another, some mayo on part, and some margarine on another. I let them set for a few hours. While those sat I used the few other things left on the list. Polish remover, worked a little but left marks on the metal. Vaseline helped some but really had to scrub, toothpaste, vinegar, and windex did nothing. The stronger things I did not even try as I was afraid of harming metal,(Kerosene, Paint Thinner, Rubber Cement Thinner, PVC Pipe Cleaner)
22.Goo Gone- worked some but lots of scrubbing.
23.Mr. Clean Magic Eraser- did no good
27.Perfume / Aftershave- didn’t use as it has alcohol and I already know how it works. It was time to try my oils. None of them even touched it, and now I had a big oily mess. So I cleaned off all the stuff and let it dry. I poured eucalyptus oil all over it (4oz bottle at my health food store for $15) waited 5 minutes and I could tell it was working. I got a flat edge piece of plastic and scrapped the adhesive, it came off in big clumps! I did that a few times them wiped all the oil around some more, washed it all off and figured I would apply the oil one more time, but when the metal was dry there was NO MORE adhesive!! This stuff was amazing, plus it cleared my sinuses.
The winner is eucalyptus oil, hands down!
Vicks Vapor rub helped me get rid of the sticker residue/glue left on a wooden crib. It contains all sorts of oils. Great tips!
I’ve tried several of these things and no such luck. What I have going on is
old packaging tape that has been left on the side of my Avion travel trailer and
it’s been there for years I believe. Any other good ideas?
Thanks
i have a very expensive georgette shirt ,i did not like the stones it had on the neck & shoulders soi removed them, now the stains of the the glueare there ,,,,WHAT DO I DO ?????? please helpas its very expensiveshirt.its navy bluen red
I can tell you what does NOT get glue off of a plastic mayonnaise jar:
Tooth paste
Baking soda & water paste
Windex
Peanut butter
Rubbing alcohol
Lighter fluid
Vegetable oil
I’m still working on it 🙁
try running it through the dishwasher on the top rack, or else soak it in a solution of hot water and dishwasher detergent for awhile. Works for me.
If you are having a hard time removing stickers and sticker adhesive off your windshield, perfume will do the trick. It worked for me.
I wanted to re-use an old oil bottle for something else and was so happy when I found that Simple Green worked. Cheap and is a green product. I hope it helps others.
I had those annoying stickers on my motorcycle tank which peeled off but left a gummy residue that came right off with some petroleum jelly! I let it sit for 5 minutes then rubbed with paper towel. Some of it came off, but the rest came off with a little more jelly and thumbnail. Yee haa! Thank you for this info 😉
I had a beautiful white pashmina I bought, and when I peeled off the sticker, it left a glue mark which immediately because a black rectangle of gathered dirt. I couldn’t get it off and was afraid to use even soap and water, as it might stain the scarf, or dry irregularly (which had happened with other scarves). I used the mixture of baking soda and water (until a gritty consistency was formed), rubbed it into the glue, and was able to scrape the whole thing off fairly easily. After, I just dusted off the excess baking soda and it was fine! Thanks!
WD-40 worked like a charm!
I bought a mirror today and there was a huge sticker on the bottom of it, first of all i tried to remove it with nail polish remover(didnt work) then tried hairspray (didnt work) and finally i tried wd- 40 and it worked a treat, i didnt even need to scrub it, came off with the wipe of kitchen roll, thanks for the great idea :o)
I was reading this and I thought that perfume was a stupid idea, and would just make a mess. I was desperate though after trying most of these, so I tried it. Works like a charm! I would suggest using perfume first!
Eye-makeup remover works like a dream. Especially if it is oil-free.
I just spread peanut butter all over the residue, wiped off the peanut butter with a warm cloth and scrubbed the residue off with the cloth. Worked like a charm 🙂
I used canola cooking spray….worked like a charm.
Tea tree oil works. Used it to remove the sticky label glue from ikea glass containers. Thanks:)
For the dried on rubbery, thick glue (from a previously installed glued on shower wall caddy) I did the following: saturated the glue strip with Goo Gone, held a paper towel over it a few seconds and then used a thin, flexible plastic ruler (not a stiff ruler) and scraped at the edges. Kept redoing this and it came off. Finished off with a Magic Eraser. You could probably use a stiff plastic spatula instead of the ruler. This was a fiberglass shower insert.
TOOTH PASTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
To take off sticky sticker from glass bottle:
1) I first heated the glass in hot water to remove sticke
2) Then to remove the glue i put a light coat of vasaline and then used Acetone (nail polish remover) with a bit of rubbing and the glue came off like magic !!
Having spent the best part of an hour trying to remove the reamians of double-sided sticky tape from my sons door using nail polish remover and then baby oil, WD-40 finally came to the rescue and cleared it in five minutes.
If you’ve got WD-40 I’d suggest trying it before anything else, it might save you the hour I lost.
Does anyone know which solution would be least damaging? I have a shoe that has sticky goo on it and I don’t want to damage the shoe while getting the sticky goo off of it. PLEASE HELP! I have ONE WEEK.
I soaked my plastic key cards (the hotel kind) in water with windex. This was not enough to change the color, but quite a few sprays. The residue gets easier to remove the longer the are in there, so far there have been no ill effects. I have had them in for about 3 days now. I still have to scrape them, but it actually does something now.
Peanut Butter!!! My wife tried nail polish with no success and once she tried peanut butter, the sticky substance came off right away. We are sold on peanut butter!!
Can’t believe nobody has said wintergreen oil. It’s cheaper than tea tree oil & u can find it in most drug stores. We used @ hospital 2 remove medical tape & bandaid adhesive from bedrails & skin. I used it just this past weekend 2 remove duct tape goo from husbands side mirror of truck which is some kind of plastic I then cleaned up the oil with rubbing alcohol. I put some on cottonball, dab goo, let sit for few minutes, then using same cottonball go back & rub it off. Been using for over ten yrs and never had problem has worked on everything I’ve tried even mystery goo!
WOW, i never comment on these things NEVER. but i just hadda say thank u to everyone. the peanut butter worked GREAT!!!!! i used smuckers natural coz thats all i had. i used very little and it came right off. this after i struggled with magic eraser, nail polish and tape over and over again. THANKS!
Peanut butter really works!
Peanut butter: genius! Thank you, people! It worked fast and absolutely effectively on several large adhesive spots on an otherwise beautiful new coffee-maker. The only negative was having to use a food I’m wild about as a non-consumable.
I had sticker residue on a new shirt that had been accidentally washed
with the sticker on it. I was about to throw the shirt away, thank you, the
cooking spray worked!!!!!!!!
i work as a cleaner at a school and the teachers have taken off paper that they covered a table with cellotape. now i’m left to clean the sticky residue thats left behind. don’t know what to use on a metal table. please help
Wow, tip 8 really helped, although I used a 99.7% pure Isopropyl alcohol cleaning solution…lol, the stains didn’t even have a chance.
I used pure tea tree oil on a metal, factory painted, horizontal blind header. Not only did it remove the adhesive, it removed the paint. It desolved the paint and left residue on my fingers as well. Beware.
for anyone who has a pool and buys the chlorine tablet holder with two huge stickers on it -to get the glue off was impossible. i tried baby oil, rubbing alcohol, oils, scrub pads, you name it – PEANUT BUTTER WORKS. i will never get back the 30 minutes i just spent doing this tedious crap, but PEANUT BUTTER FIRST and you wont have to go thru what i went through!!
WD-40 works for typical price tags and such. But for really old caked on labels it didn’t work. I had some window labels and door labels that’s been there over a year in the sun. Nothing will remove it until I tried some nail polish remover on, it dissolved all the goo instantly. Works really good.
I used a normal pink eraser and wiped the mess off with a damp cloth, worked great!
THANK YOUU! PEANUT BUTTER. You dunno how many binders (folders) ive thrown away because of the stickers crap:L. I was already gonna throw away my new folder i bought yesterday because of the sticker i put on it..smh-.- and VUALA! Heheehe ;b thank you ! *
I tried for about 30 minutes to remove the sticker residue left behind from an Intel sticker on the shiny part of my SONY VAIO laptop. I tried an eraser and picking it off with my nails.
I ended up trying Tea Tree Oil and it worked perfectly. I dabbed some Tea Tree Oil on a Q-TIP and rubbed gently in a circular motion and it was all off in less than a minute!
I would recommend wiping it down after with a cloth just to polish it.
On clear plastic use Vaseline on a Qtip…apply small amount to sticky residue, wipe with dry paper towel. Repeat if necessary. EASY! Polish sparkling with old T shirt.
Concentrated Basic- H works on all kids of sticky messes! Brand new butcher block counters, 2 year old put duct tape on… yikes… about 4 drops of the magic gold in a bottle and it was gone!
PERFUME IS AMAZING, DISSOLVED BEFORE I EVEN WIPED IT AWAY 😀
I was having trouble getting the thermal compound off the heatsinks on my xbox 360. I tried alcohol, acetone, Windex and Dawn. The Dawn helped a little bit but there was still a thin layer. I saw on here that peanut butter worked so I thought I’d give it a try. I spread a layer on each one and left it on for several minutes. I could see a major difference. After two more applications the compound was completely gone. I cleaned the residue off with alcohol and now they’re shiny clean!
i have kery board stickers on my laptop but i want to take them off,
i tried taking off about, 1 quarter of my stickers, but the leave the WORST residue and i have no clue how to do this!
my stickers are a bit like foam, they are soft and spongy, there for the residue is soft and spongy
i tried every thing, rbbing alcholol, nail polish remover, baby oil, vaselin, NOTHING WORKS!
i cant be too messy because then my key board will be ruined!
what should i do !
none of these things work…. i have sticky stuff from like an animal trap on my rain coat how do i get it off?? please help
Peanut butter is amazing! I just finished removing a 4 inch sticker from a stove we just purchased. It took about a half an hour, with reapplication of peanut butter to break it down. Don’t give up! It definitely works, and it is my new ticket to sticket removal.
I just used almond oil. It’s used as a moisturizer and can be purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart (probably other drug stores too). I just poured some on a paper towel, and it took just one minute of rubbing to remove all the glue.
I just tried peanut butter and it literally work in less than a minute amazing!!!
I used a pencil eraser (all I could find at work) to remove the sticker residue from a pair of reading glasses. It was a bit of work, but got it done!
I used the masking-tape on a gift that had sticky residue frome the price tag. It wasn’t a minute and it was gone!Awesome stuff!
wow!! Petroleum jelly and nail polish work so well! this was so helpful Thanks!
Well, the Windex did NOT work for me. Duct tape eventually got it all, but you need to slap it on multiple times to get all of it off.
Wow, the peanut butter worked great for me!
I tried 3 things before the magic eraser and it worked the first time (unless the other things loosened it first, lol!)
My ds had a sticker on the screen protector that left behind a sticky residue
Petroleum jelly worked first try
It took 20 minutes though
i have a bmw z3 and its recently on permit the red paper they give at the dmv so you can move your car. my question is. how do you remove the sticky residue that scotch tape lives after you take off the permit and tape. thanks any one who answers.
Hey, Need some help, iv just pulled up the cheap pound shop laminate from my kitchen floor left by the previous tenant and my floor is so sticky, iv tried a few thing but no luck as of yet, does any body no any good tricks?? Ps its really bad and I need help xx
After failing to remove some very strong sticker adhesive, I was successful only with Wood furniture “clean and polish” in just few seconds.
Perfume worked really well, but you better use a perfume you like. Going to open some windows now so the house does not smell like an old man… :o)
Thanks! I managed to clean the lid of my laptop(the same one had been with me since childhood, so it had Christmas cracker stickers, Children’s Day stickers and more) and manage to take number 16 which was to sacrifice my nice Hi polymer eraser from my pencil case and… Thanks! Now I saved 90 bucks! (SGD 90 as in the price of a new lid that is)
To remove labels from glassware: BUTTER (leave on overnight, wipe off with paper towel, then wash in warm soapy water, rinse & dry)
stickers on your coffee table… scrape off sticker with razor blade carefully or finger nails then Rubbing Alcohol does the trick! The sticky came right off!
Have you ever used one of those “super sticky” mouse traps that are like flypaper, and then you catch some other poor creature instead, like a bird, or a lizard? Don’t let them suffer in torment. Pour salad oil on to the sticky pad. They will be free in a few minutes and you will feel great about it.
Skip all the other crap and use peanut butter. I applied, let sit about 30 sec., then rinsed off with warm water.
Tea tree oil worked perfectly! Just wash with soap and water when finished.
I got some rat glue on my hands and cleaned them with a cloth. Later I forgot about it and used the cloth on my laptop, since then I cant remove this stuff. I thought acetone would do the job but it was no use. Any suggestions?
I work in an office and there was a great deal of duct tape residue left on some plastic walling. I looked through my bag, hand cream didnt work but I had some solid lime perfume with jooba jooba in and managed to get it all off using that and some thin tissues.
You all are great with your suggestions. However, I am NOT wasting my delicious peanut butter on any sticky goo! Sorry. 🙂
what is a good way to remove border from the walls and the easiest and best way to remove contact paper from kitchen cabinets?
Just bougt camping plates and bowls, unfortunately they placed the sticker right in the middle of the inside of each plate/bowl!!!! So i tried to remove them as best i could but couldnt remove the residue. Used petroleum jelly and peanut butter and the p.b works best, doesnt require any elbow grease. Used a scouring pad under hot water after I let them sit for 2 hours. Thanks for posting everyone!!
I just tried tea tree oil to remove sticker residue and it worked! No scrubbing was needed.
used polo body spray and that did the trick
I tried rubbing alcohol that didn’t do much… used a soaked rubbing alcohol cloth wiped down the surface wiped peanut butter on it used the cloth again dried it then its done
hand lotion worked wonderfully on my laptop sticker residue!
If you are in the UK, try using Vick vapour rub. Contains Eucalyptus oil among others. Did the trick for me.
Many thanks to Shannon for his helpful suggestion.
forget everything u guys have used… i worked in an aromatherapy oil lab a few yrs ago, and LEMON oil is beyond amazing!!!! gets goo, anything sticky etc., off of anything instantly!!! just go to anyplace that sells aromatherapy oils and get a bottle of lemon oil. not mixed with anything, just pure lemon oil. the standard size is usually about 12 mg., so its a teenie bottle but u dont need much n it works unbelievably on anything sticky/gluey!!! if u r in canada, save on foods sells a line of oils in the cosmetics dept., called “wow” pure potent essential oils, the company is “essential nature” this is a real true organic company.
I am trying to get the glue residue off of an old vintage tablecloth label.
Will lemon oil work the best? HELP!
Tea tree oil worked great to remove sticky tape residue on wooden drawers.
olive oil worked magically on the goo of my high gloss finish coffee table..thks for the suggestions
OMG! It gave me a shock! I had this disgusting sticky goo left on my pencil when the label came off… So i tried using hand lotion (That was closest to me at that time) and it worked like MAGIC! <3 Thank you!
WD 40 worked like magic to remove the label adhesive
I USED THE FINISHING OIL INCLUDED IN MY WAXING KIT TO REMOVE STICKER RESIDUE FROM A BOOK AND IT WAS FANFLIPPING TASTIC! then i just wiped the oil off with a baby wipe and voila!
Cooking spray (Pam) worked wonders for me! It removed tape residue instantly from the toe of a shoe (cleat) that I bought at a garage sale. Rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover did NOTHING.
I used some cheap aftershave that I’ve had in the cupboard since I was about 15. I had a stubborn price sticker on a factory-sealed videogame. It worked like a charm. And the videogame’s factory seal didn’t melt!
Game smells a bit now though.
WD40 worked great! Smells though. Wahses off easily with soapy water. I tried peanut butter and seemed like it was working but a little slow to react and messy. Thanks
STUPID ME Any suggestions on how to remove metal holder on windshield that holds mirror. I glued it on backwards. LOL
Tried Windex and it didn’t do anything, so I tried the peanut butter and it worked like a dream!
Windex isn’t working, looking for duct tape!
omg! peanut butter is my savior! cant believe it actually worked. Peanut butter on paper towel and scrub a little bit shines it right up 😀
Peanut butter worked great and got that sticky off my laptop! thank goodness!
Try coconut oil if you have it on hand. I had some sticky residue that WOULD NOT come off at all, no matter what I did to it. (used hot hot water, dish soap, toothpaste, and vasiline.) I read through some of the posts and was about to try peanut butter, but noticed someone else said they used eucalyptus oil, and decided to go with coconut oil, and it worked! I wiped it all over the area and then took a paper towel and wiped it in circles for a little bit and it came right off. :]
Here is my report (6/12/2012)
I had Eucalyptus oil with me, after seeing this ad. I said let me give it a try. All the goo from bumper sticker marks came off my immediately, didn’t have to spend no more than a minute. I have tried so many other things before
Thanks, Gracias, Shi-Shi
I just took the screen protector off my phone because it was falling off and getting dirt and everything under it, plus that looks tacky. so I started to peel it off..and it left a heavy sticky residue. and I used windex, hot water, petrolem jelly, and then i tried rubbing alchol and that seemed to work it left to much still behind.so then i tried peanut butter, and after i left it on for about 6 minutes or so, then i wiped it off and it was like…wooooaaaahhhhh awsome..now its clean and i have no problems…I love peanut butter…its tasty and it cleans…crazy product..
thanks
I used iron on vinyl on a piece of cloth, well I obviously did it wrong because some of it was pulled of with the paper and either did not stick or stuck and partially pulled off. Needless to say I need to take it all off. Does anyone have any advice on how to get this off my fabric? HELP! Thank you!
Thanks a lot guys. Peanut Butter worked very well on my car. I let it soaked for 15 minutes, then I used hair drier. With a hard brush I was able to remo ve 90% in the first time. Then, more peanut butter and hair drier, ultimately everything was gone. It was aprox. 2 feet of glue from a sticker. It worked also for other stains on the car.
Thanks,
for mirrors and windows, to remove sticky residue of any kind, I spray liberally with Windex or other window cleaner, then I use the sharp side of a razor blade to carefully scrape it off in the area that has been ‘prepared’ with Windex;
in other words, I let the window cleaner stay wet on sticky place, then scrape it all off with the razor. It is very easy and requires no effort, this way.
Then I follow up by cleaning as normal, the whole window or mirror with the cleaner.
My stickiest, yuckiest problem is the hanging fly trap. I absolutely hate hanging them – I am sticky no matter how careful (even wearing plastic disposable gloves I still get it on me). I’ve had two of my pet birds fly into the fly trap. The first was a scarlet macaw, the second was a baby green cheek conure. Because I’m dealing with a living animal, I have had to work it off as gently and carefully as possible, but it’s going to pull out feathers. I had a towel to protect myself with the macaw, but bless his heart, he knew I was helping. The only safe way to remove that sticky residue has been cooking oil. I use canola and it worked great both times to remove the majority from the birds and all from me.
100% pure Eucalyptus oil works wonders. I bought a second hand furniture that had sticky tape on …I thought I would have to get it re varnished….No need now. apply oil, leave few seconds then rub with a dry cloth.
Another peanut butter vote. I don’t even know what it was or how it got on my laptop but I had a patch of stickiness that felt a lot like pitch/tree sap. I used peanut butter on a Q-tip to gently cover the area, let it sit for a minute, and then cleaned most of it up with a clean Q-tip. Cleaned the area with a mildly soapy computer cloth and the laptop looks like it came out of the box. Only tricky part was keeping our pup from licking off the peanut butter but it works like a charm.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser does it again! I need to buy stock in this thing.
I unwrapped pictures/posters,etc after 6 yrs (YES, SIX) of storage and one of the custom frames had very noticeable tape glue on it. I tried Goo Gone – nope! Then, baby oil – uh uh! Then, nail polish remover w/acetone – not even! But Mr. Clean started right up. I tried to clean a spot on a different area, only to discover it had some sort of dried oil/unidentifiable gunk on it. Yuck! Gross! It sparkled after the Mr. Clean.
I am SO doing The Happy Dance!
I had an annoying sticker residue on my laptop. Vanished it with toothpaste. I would suggest it over peanut butter as it smells good and you dont have to waste delicious peanut butter!
Unbelievable. Cooking spray works in a second!
I have used a lot of different things to try to take labels off of old medicine bottles, etc. The best thing that works for me is lighter fluid (the kind that you fill those old flip top (I can’t remember the name, dang it!) lighters with?). That stuff beats vegetable oil, dish soap, and Goo Gone! <3
I had dried sticky tape residue on the border of my computer desktop PC screen, however I was tempted in using nail polish remover but didnt want to use anything harsh so I used the Peanut Butter method and it worked a treat!
I a clear plastic container and wanted to avoid using oils as they would leave an oil sheen if I didn’t clean very well. So I decided to use peanut butter. It worked like a charm! I just took a little on my finger, rubbed it on the area, and the adhesive residue was gone; and best of all, no oily residue afterward to have to scrub away, just minimal soap and water cleanup. Thanks for all the useful tips to choose from!
Tea Tree Oil work like magic I bought a game from Gamestop and their sticker left behind this horrible adhesive that would get dirty with every touch so I tried ice which sometimes works, but it fail, nail polish remover did absolutely nothing but i had tea tree oil and I first thought impossible, but let me give it a try and it Work!!! Absolutely amazing YAY!!!
yupp, PEANUT BUTTER completely took it off after trying rubbing alcohol & polish remover!! it really works. 🙂
None of these work on sicky stuff left on plastic folders by the stickers….. Tried them all.
I used an off-brand windex, left it on for a few minutes, wiped it off with a cloth. Easy.
Auto vinyl stripes glue removal EASY Mr. Clean eraser! Fantastic product
I am nuts for tip nuts !
I’m not surprised peanut butter works.
My mom use it once when my brother put gum in my hair, saved me from much humiliation.
Got a really nice golf club for my boyfriend for his birthday. I was worried that i was going to have to give it to him all sticky, because the adhesive from the bar code and price stickers wouldn’t come off. I’d tried nail polish remover and other things, but then tried peanut butter after looking on this website. I didn’t think it would work, but it did, immediately! Thanks tipnut, and everyone who said to use peanut butter!:)
deodorant really works … thanku
I can NOT believe how amazing the Peanut Butter trick worked!!! I spread it on, and used a toothbrush to scrub off the sticky glue. I suggest using a minimal amount of the peanut butter, and it really works amazing! Nothing else was working – paint thinner, rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover! Yay for all natural! 🙂
I don’t know what would be good on a DSi. I read the comments and said that NAIL POLISH REMOVER might damage the surface, so I didn’t use it. Help?
Peanut Butter did the trick!! 😀
PEANUT BUTTER!!!!!!
I had a garlic/multi-food hand grater with that sticky crap on it. Of course, using a sponge or brillo pad to attempt to remove it would result in shredding or grating it! 🙁
After reading this, I tried peanut butter, and it worked almost effortlessly!
Peanut butter. It’s not just for peanut butter cups anymore. 😉
Thank you!
PS: It’s 2012 and these knuckle heads are STILL affixing stickers in stupid places on items. Grrrrrr
Nail Polish did the trick 😀
I used rubbing alcohol.
I just used baby oil and it worked like magic 😀
Peanut butter worked like a charm to remove price labels sticky residue on the polished side of petrified wood.
Perfume! Amazing works like magic, tried like… 10 other methods and a bit of rubbing and voila not a single mark! Great method will know to use this from now on!
Windex!!!! and then the perfume got the stickiness
I just bought glass storage containers and there were labels on the glass and on the plastic snap tops.
I tried removing the labels and it just left part of the paper and of course the sticky glue on the glass and plastic snap tops of the containers.
For the sticky glue on the glass I left the containers in hot soapy dish washing liquid for about half an hour and they came off like a charm with no residue left on them.
For the sticky glue residue on the plastic snap tops, I used peanut butter, toothpaste, rubbing alchol and they didn’t work. Then I read other tips from this website, and I tried Tea Tree Oil, and it worked like you wouldn’t believe…with no effort at all. Thanks for the tips.
I JUST USE PEANUT BUTTER AND IT WORKED REALLY GOOD!
I had sticker residue on my metal iPod backing, and I tried everything to get it off! Turns out vegetable oil does the trick! Just a little but on a wash rag worked instantly!
Just removed the packaging off my new silver coloured fridge freezer and there is some white sticky tape left behind. I’m a little worried what to use to remove it in case it also removes the silver colour off the appliance. Please can anyone advise me what I should use?
Lol toothpaste actually worked on the Ducttape residue…
Had metal tape on a linoleum floor. It had been on for a long time and had gotten wet underneath so it was pretty much glued on. Scraped it off with the handle of a plastic fork then used a dab of nail polish remover then used baking soda and water paste. Came right off and the baking soda did an amazing job cleaning the floor. Going to clean the whole floor with baking soda now.
Baking Soda works on painted surfaces – leaving no grease stains and no scratches.
I’ve bought a couple of wooden bedside cabinets (not new) and have just found that one of the drawers is sticky on the inside (base only). It looks and feels as though someone has used sticky backed plastic on it in the past. Will Michelle’s baking powder idea work on unpainted wood? If not has any one any other ideas?
Sorry I meant to type baking soda!
Just used nail polish remover on my iPod touch to get rid of the residue from the Ghost Armor I had on it. Worked like a charm!
I just used nail polish remover on shoes with a plastic sole and it worked fine. It’s discoloured the soles slightly but has left them stickiness free 🙂
i tried with toothpaste and i worked amazing. because was a pretty big sticker after i used and petroleum jelly and the surface is clean like new 😀
Mayonnaise works great to take the stickey glue off leather.
Sticky credit card sticking to all other cards. Only had WD40. Sprayed on (put kitchen towel under it). Left 5 minutes. Wiped off. Job done. Followed by wipe with a damp cloth.
Tried using a hair dryer and took some of the sticky label residue off my dishwasher and then olive oil and it’s done the job
Awesome info. You practically saved my life 🙂
I never thought peanut butter would be THIS useful.
trying to put down new tub & wall sealer trim, taking up old, goof off??? peanut butter LOL just caused a bigger mess, windex sented soaking, spreading for 10-15 min over & over, nothing but help get ride of the smell foo goof off, trying w-d 40 & nothing, even tried carb cleaner, nothing

how can i get glue of my floor i have tried to mop it but it wouldn’t come up somebody put another flooring on top of a good flooring we tried to get the glue up by mopping
I peeled off a plastic film which has been stuck on my iPod for years and it left behind an ugly mess of adhesive residue.
I then rubbed some butter on the metal surface, left it for a while, before cleaning it away. Most of the adhesive residue went off, except for some stubborn spots which requires more butter to be massaged in.
🙂
I never reply to posts such as this but given the HOURS you have saved me I feel obliged to share my experience. I had a combo tool chest delivered yesterday (early Christmas present from my wife). It had plastic stickers glued all over it that I was not happy about. I tried everything I could think of (Meths, Turps, Parafin, Nail Varnish remover, WD40, Toothpaste …… It took me an hour to remove a couple of tiny stickers! Finally found this site and tried a hot air gun. Removed all the other dozen stickers in 5 minutes!!! I am surprised that the hot air didn’t melt the stickers – it just seemed to re-bond the adhesive to the back which allowed me to gradually peel them off without even leaving any residue. Perfect!
WD-40 is a wonder product. It has more than 2000 applications. I applied it to two desk with tape adhesive residual, and in 5 minutes did the trick. It lubricates the wood too.
I have a bit more complicated case.Received a big order of make up and nail polishes, and security company places their huge very strong stickers on top of original stickers, example like on 50 bottles of l’oreal o Calvin Klein of nail polishes. When i am trying to remove top stickers, even original,of the product get destroyed.Any suggestion how to get rid of top stickers, but save the product original ones?Any suggestions?
Tried this on a piece of thick paper where I had the sticky residue, it did not work with peanut butter! Now I have the 1st stain and a leftover one!
Baby oil just done the job, class!
other night i spent half an our getting sticker out, and today, just couple seconds:)

Peanut Butter…………..
It really works.Try it.
The prime liquid for removing gum, goo, adhesives and even streaky windshields is ……….
Coca-Cola
Baby wipes infact got sticky DIY adhesive glue off from where I had removed old 70’s polystyrene tiles from my celling. Worked suprisingly well considering it was a mad idea!
I have this expensive purse made out of nylon and possible pleather. It fell behind a machine that heated the purse and release the glue on the straps and put it all over the nylon and pleather etc. What best advise would you give to remove this sticky glue from this type of fabric would you use. Thanks
The peanut butter definatly works. I have been removing tiles from the diningroom floor since they are breaking off and with a new baby that is a hazard and i had tried everything to get the adhesive off the floor and nothing worked then I saw all the suggestions on here about using peanut butter and now my floor is door. Thanks!!
My partner has stuck the wooden beading down with a type of super glue which has leaked though onto the wooden floor i”ve tried tea tree and eucalyptus oil and it aint budging. Tips would be appreciated. Thanks
I just used Tea Tree oil, it took no more than 10 seconds to get it off, amazing!!
I had sticky residue left from a security tag on a CD that I got for my sister for Christmas and I used hair spray and it came off straight away! Thanks for the tips 😀
BABY OIL WORKS now I have to clean the oil. ._. Lol
Stainless steel cleaner removes adhesive glue. Glue comes right off.
Sweet peanut butter it worked (it took like 5 seconds).
Thank you
I had sticker residue stuck on some plastic and WD40 worked like magic. I sprayed it on and let it sit for 5 minutes, then after some vigorous wiping I was able to get it all off.
Peanut butter worked great on craft glue and sparkles used for 1D posters. This stuff has been on my table for months, I used everything or so I thought. Applied the peanut butter twice and now my table is golden!!
I used a dab of hand lotion on the goo portion on the back of my Samsung cell phone, and it works for me!
How many wonderful uses can peanut butter possibly have?! IT WORKS!! I had been struggling with tape residue on a plastic Easter egg that even Goo Gone would not touch! The residue was so tough that it actually seemed bonded to the plastic itself! After reading the advice on this site, I thought I’d give peanut butter a try since I had some. I rubbed some on and used one of those chamie-like cloths to remove the residue. It took only 2 or 3 applications to get every bit of the stuff. I didn’t have to wait or even rub hard.
George Washington Carver must be smiling down from Heaven!
I received a wooden table that had the packing tape stuck to the top. I soaked it in the cooking spray, let it sit for five minutes then wiped it with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. IT ALL CAME OFF!!
Coconut Oil Spray!! Aloha 🙂
My passport had this grey sticky stain on the back due to the stickers placed on by customs, and I didnt know how to get rid of it!
so i first tried wood wax which took off the loose fibre which was stuck on the glue….then i used tea tree oil – which did the trick.
I used the tea tree oil with a cotton bud and the glue came off very easily…..lastly i used petroleum jelly to remove the tiny specks left and now my passport looks polished and good as new!
Thanks to this site!
I’ve been painting in my bathroom,i put masking tape on the chrome towel
and the dam glue as left a residue i cannot get off.Anyone got any ideas?
Yay!!! PEANUT BUTTER WORKED!!!!! My daughter put masking tape across her gymnastics mat and left it for a year. When we took the tape off, it left a thick, gooey sticky film that would not come off the mat. I am soooooooo excited to have found this site. THANK YOU!!!!!
Removing decals from my motorcycle, this is what it is:
– Stickers from fenders/fairings = blowdry then peel, then put Goo Gone to get it off
– Stickers/decals on other plastic parts on your bike, Wd-40 and Goo gone together with tough scrubbing. I wrapped a dollar coin in a cloth and scrubbed off the goo that way
– Peanut butter does not work, I would not try nail polish remover for the fact that it has chemicals in there that I don’t feel comfortable scrubbing away at stuff on my bike. But PEANUT BUTTER did not work for the glue left behind from motorcycle decals. I used crunchy peanut butter 🙁
Hi, there is a adhesive glue stick on my important paper, how i remove it safely from my paper.can anybody please help me.i really thankful tu u.
I put masking tape on the plastic coping around my pool so I could keep paint off it while I panted my deck. It was on there for several days and I had to use a heat gun to get the tape off, but it left the sticky on the plastic coping . Any ideas of what will work to remove it . I have about 125 ft. About 2 inches wide .
I use Epoxy And Lacqeur Thinner and a stiff nylon brush for jobs such as this. Try a small test area first to ensure its safe. Available at Hardware and Paint stores everywhere. Good Luck!
WOW!!!!! Peanut butter really works!!!!
I had a very very old wooden Bible where the binding had fallen apart and someone long ago taped it together. The tape had disintegrated leaving just old dried out adhesive behind. Being so old I didn’t want to use lighter fluid which is my normal go-to gunk remover. I tried a small amount of lighter fluid but it did absolutely nothing. I tested a small area with the Peanut butter and gradually the gunk started to shift. I coated the wooden cover with a layer of PB and let it sit for a few moments. I had to work at it with using my fingers and the gunk is no more!
Brilliant!
Baby Oil works the best, Just pour some onto the residue, you don’t even have to let it absorb, take the oil and rub it onto the residue. EASY!!!
what can i use to get adhesive glue from a label on a baby food jar, I’m using empty baby food jars for a diy wedding candles and i cant get the glue to come off with out spending 20 mins on each bottle, i don’t have a whole lot of time to spend scrubbing at the glue and raise 4 month old twins. PLEASE HElP ME. Thank you
I had stickers on my car and I tried many different methods, most of which are mentioned here. I tried drying the stickers out and using my nails. I tried soaking them with vinegar. I tried Goof Off. I tried soap and warm/hot water with a sponge and wash cloth. I tried peanut butter. Nothing seemed to work.
Then I used Borax mixed with warm water. Right after I applied it to my stickers, I was immediately able to just rub them off with the surface of my thumb. I’ve never been so relieved. I was at it for hours using the other methods, but in two minutes, I was able to get them off using a Borax-Water solution.
TL;DR: Nothing else worked. Used Borax w/ Water. Stickers and Adhesive gone in Minutes.
Cooking oil worked for me! My suitcase handle had sticky residue on it from when I removed the duck tape that I had wrapped it with. I rubbed cooking oil on it, which removed the residue, then soap to remove the oil, then wiped it dry with a clean cloth.
Avon Skin So Soft bath oil is good also Metholated spirits worked well
Will any of those work on a wood surface? I have a wood kitchen island with a sticky square I’m not sure how to get off… ugh
Peanut butter worked like a charm!
NIAL VANISH RUINED MY ART BOOK DO NOT TRY IT.
Any oil will work on surfaces that are not affected by oil stains. That might account for the peanut butter because of whatever oil is in there, depending on the brand of peanut butter. Really, any old oil will do – I tried it once on a glass jar that had part of the label on it, and actually used oil I had used to make french fries, and it worked like a charm.
Baby oil helps get duct tape adhesive off of otterboxes
I peeled off my bumper sticker okay, but it left some glue gunk on my car. I tried windex, but it didn’t help much. After looking at the comments about Peanut Butter I tried it…and man did it work. It goes on smooth, removes so easily and that glue gunk just slides off with it. When you actually remove the peanut butter and glue, I recommend you try to spread the peanut butter as you wipe. It’s like magic glue remover!
Wife thought I was crazy to use peanut butter on the cabinets… to her utter disbelief it WORKS!
I used olive oil on plastic, let it sit while I did other things and it all came off. Thanks everyone for the tips.
I need help………put a Christmas decal from. Dollar Store on my window last Christmas, while the picture came off, it left a residue……..I believe that the sticky part is still under this residue………WHAT do I use…..please help
I need to know how to remove tracks left from old sticky rubber soles on my carpet. Does anyone have a solution for this. Tracks didn’t show until dust settled in.
Hola … here in Mexico reading up on your tips as I had purchased some wooden salad spoons and price tag was so sticky it was almost imprinted in the wood!!! Buerre de Cacahuates (peanut butter) did the trick as many have reported … muy bueno y gracias!!!
I purchased this plastic caddy thing for my daughter for Christmas and they put a huge sticker on it which sucked because it was suppose to be from Santa. Well after trying rubbing alcohol and cooking oil and trying to scratch it off with my nail I was frustrated. I tried peanut butter and it got it off in about one minute. My husband and I are both still surprised… Looks like Santa is back in business! Skip the other stuff just use PEANUT BUTTER!!!
I used hot water, a razor(I know, I shaved my jar), nail polish remover, duct tape, and then finally magic eraser and it worked. WOW
you can try engine de-greaser or bike chain cleaner. engine degreaser worked really well for me when i tried cleaning the glue left in my car’s windows after i removed the sun films. i’v also cleaned some bottle labels with it 🙂
Use a blow dryer. It will heat up the gunk just enough and then use your finger nails or a razor blade (depending on what the item is) to remove the gunk.
Every now and then I have to finish it off with a drop of rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball.
Works like a charm. I collect vintage glassware & thrift stores love to put their price stickers on them. This is how I get the stickers off without hurting the glassware. (Blow dryers are easy to find at garage sales and thrift stores if you don’t want to use the one you use for yourself.)
trying to get medical tape off but leave decal on. How do I do this one???? Help
Couldn’t get dried duct tape off my cymbal. Only one thing got it off. Berrymans B12 Chemtool carburetor cleaner. Can get it at WalMart.
I have a leather bag that had a sticker from an event that happened in my school. I heard that I could remove the sticker leftovers with alcohol, but I didn’t want to ruin it. I used vaseline on the residue and it worked just as good. If you don’t have petroleum jelly, try it instead. It also gives off a nice shiny look to the leather 😀
trying to get some sort of adhesive from the inside of a plastic cup (bottom of cup). i don’t want to throw it out because it is a 32oz double insulated Coca-Cola cup. PLEAS HELP!!!!
Pencil eraser worked like a champ.
Peanut butter….unbelievable!
Don’t even waste time with anything else like I did!
Mayonnaise is great for getting off sticky stuff left by labels. Just rub on a little bit and leave for awhile. Then wash off.
I am trying to get off a rangoli sticker pasted on mosaic floor. The sticker looks like a sheet its not thin actually and it is sticked tightly to the floor.I tried with nailpolish remover but no go.Please suggest..

If you rub on olive oil / non stick spray with a napkin/cleaning rag it will come off easily
WD 40. Perfect on laminated laminated dashboard of of antque Mercedes.
Tried Creamy Peanut Butter on sticky fly tape glue that got stuck on the hood of my truck. Was worried about it sticking, not being able to get it off without damaging the exterior wax and paint. Yet it came off with ease, no fuss, no strenuous scrubbing. This was from a beach vacation, got back home, poured some hot water from a coffee pot on top of hood where sticky fly tape landed, also this was at like 1:00 in the high afternoon, so hood was somewhat hot, then proceeded to wax on wax off peanut butter over affected area. The stuff came right off, now I’m going to go get a real good detailed car wash to hopefully get excess residue off, cleaned, and waxed to keep away any corrosion of exterior wax & paint on vehicle. Used less than a Tablespoon of creamy peanut butter and a soft cloth (blue & white, microfiber that you can get cheap at any general grocery store, come 3 to a pack) 🙂
I just got on amazing deal on a bob revolution stroller at only $30 dollars. The only problem was that the previous owner had put leopard print tape all over the frame for ‘decoration’. I thought it was a pretty good deal and thought I’d clean it up. Thankfully I came across this page and I decided to try the peanut butter to get rid of all the tape residue. It worked amazingly (just the same as it worked when I had to remove gum from my kids’ hair). All you have to do is spread it on the affected area and leave it on for a few hours and then wipe it off with an old cotton t-shirt.
Aerosol silicone instantly removed sticker residue from a stainless steel mixing bowl.
I just tried eraser and all of it got off in min. I wish i would have known this a few mouthes ago when i tried to take off a jelly jar’s goo off.
I tried everything to get a label off of a plastic spice container so I could reuse it again for another kind of spice and nothing worked. Finally I just happened to try Country Crock! It worked. I smeared it on the container with my finger and wiped it off with a paper towel. There was no residue from the label or the Country Crock. The last thing I did was wash the container in hot water…no soap…and wipe dry with a clean paper towel. It was as good as new. Hope this helps someone out there. Also, if you’re ever in a jam for furniture polish, try mayo. Real mayo, not imitation. It’s the best thing for all wood and will not harm your furniture. It brings out the shine in the wood and it you’re like me, you’ll never go back to furniture polish again.
Funny! Everyone seems to have had Peanut Butter in the house!
I will go try it right now. I just bought some of those 6 and 3 drawer Sterlite organizers and they came today. They had all of the drawers held shut with a very long piece of Scotch tape. Each one when peeled off left a nasty residue. I came right ot eh net to find a way yo clean it off and landed here. Thanks!
May God’s blessings fall on every one of your households!
I used WD40 to remove Scotch Heavy Duty Fasteners with Velcro from finished wood floors without damage. First I peeled off the rough side, leaving the liner on the floor. Then I soaked it in WD40 and left it for 2-3 minutes. Then I used a scotch brite sponge (scrub side) and scrubbed across the liner, perpendicular to the long side. Once I’d roughed that up, I started scrubbing in a circular motion. The liner came off in pieces. Lots of work, and I’ll never use the fasteners for a small rug again (thought dogs might not be able to move rug if I used them. Wrong!). But I’m really glad I got it off. I tried olive oil, and that might have worked if I’d soaked it longer, but was impatient to get any result.
Peanut Butter works!!! Yay!!! I have been going “nuts” trying to get that sticky stuff they put between bottles to stick them together when they sell them… tried Rubbing Alcohol, my finger, nails, White Mr. Clean Sponge, Hairdryer – then – tried peanut butter… worked 🙂
Please can someone help me? I got that Magic clean High-Tech cleaning compound that is obviously from china because those were the only English words on the package. Your supposed to use it to clean your computer keyboard from dirt and dust. Apparently you are not to leave it on for more than 5 seconds but I only learned of this important detail after my daughter left it on my laptop keyboard for maybe 5 minutes. Does anyone know of a home remedy that I could use to get this slimy, gooey crap out from under my keys?
Thanks so much for your tip on how to remove sticky labels from items.
I was about to give up! Your tip to keep trying was the key … tried the Windex first (no results) moved on to Cooking Spray and it worked like a charm.
Thanks again.
Tea Tree Oil did the trick. Thanks!
I was about to use nail polish remover after trying white sponge, baking soda, when I saw the makeup remover cloths in my granddaughter’s room. I pulled out one and just started rubbing the glue on a glass bottle. It worked great.
Had big spot on fridge. And we had also marker above it it was nasty non of the above worked then I sprayed easy off yes the yellow one we use for oven grease just sprayed once and wiped didn’t even need to to scrupulous or even leave it to souk .so easy.
Great tip, TipNut!
It was the peaNUT butter oil that worked for me.
Restored my audio/video component like new!

WOW!! I struggled with a strip of adhesive stuck on a pashmina shawl for a few years. I found this site, and as a result, I tried “Desert Essence – Tea Tree Oil Skin Ointment”. It is like tea tree oil in an ointment (beeswax, among other things) base. It worked like magic! I never would have thought of using that on my own. It came off about 1-2 minutes after rubbing the back of the fabric where the sticker was located with the ointment. Just FYI: My original mistake was packing the shawl away for years with the label before wearing it. The sticker sat on the shawl for years. Take those stickers and labels off fabric immediately!
Windex is what worked for me on the clear plastic in the refrigerator.
I had double sided tape on the ceramic floor to hold a mat in place. Figuring that I would change it regularily….there would be no problem removing it lol. I scraped off the top of it and the very sticky adhesive remained. I liked the natural idea of the baking soda and water paste. It is BRILLIANT! I left it for about 5 minutes and it then wiped right off with a damp cloth.
Thanks for this natural and perfect idea 😀
I was trying to get sticker adhesive off metal and at first I used WD-40 and it sort of worked, I really had to scrub it. I was looking patience and I tried nail polish remover and it worked great!
I needed a food safe remover. I had a wooden bowl with a massive sticker covering half the bowl on the side, bought from IKEA. Tried to remove the sticker but it left behind lots of sticky residue. Poured olive oil over it and 10 minutes later removed it with a microfibre cloth. Another cloth or a rag would have also worked fine. Now my bowl is food safe, stupid huge IKEA sticker removed and the bowl is lovely and shiny.
I live in the very hot desert of Arizona and purchased a used Toyota Prius from a medical transport company. They removed their decals from the doors but it left the glue and the car set in the hot sun over a year. I first tried Goo Gone which smells nice and cleans old dirt well but didn’t remove the old adhesive. I was told to use paint thinner but it dukes the car paint and requires more work to bring back the shine. I tried Vodka and it worked and you get to celebrate afterwards. Don’t use flavored Vodka and the higher the alchahol content the better it works. You can add Lemon, lime or Orange to make it smell better. The alchahol evaporates pretty quick so wipe soon after application.
used low heat from hair dryer if possible direct heat to under side of sticker. PB rub in with finger lightly. rub off with terry cloth towel repeat as needed. And no more lawyer advertisement all gone.this was done on a 2015 ATV plastic body parts no scratches no mess. What next indoor plumbing.
On a plastic container – with heavily glued labels – seems oil is the secret. I first peeled off as much of the label as possible, then I rubbed a thin coat of peanut butter into the residue and it came off quickly with a minimal amount of rubbing. On another portion of the same container I used olive oil, it too worked quickly and easily.
I just used petroleum jelly. Worked great!!! It did the trick.
Toothpaste Worked for me!!!
Thank you so much!!
Nail polish or pure acetone on paint that is permanent, but it will mess up your paint. Heat white vinegar mineral spirits will do the trix
I used sanitizer and it worked.
Nail polish did it for me just use a cotton ball and apply it to the sticky glue 🙂
Tried everything nothing worked. But peanut butter worked! WOW! It’s a miracle.
Baby wipes. Works brilliantly. I used one baby wipe and a lot of rubbing and it removed sticky residue from a car windscreen that nothing else worked on. I was so impressed I tried it on the bug spatter on the front of the car and it got that off easily too! I’ve also found it works well to get fingerprints off brushed steel kitchen appliances.
actually toothpaste did not work but… it was smooth for a little until then ); but thanks a lot
thanks! this web is super helpful!
Bro, TOOTHPASTE!!!
Just put a small amount on your finger and firmly do circles for 30 seconds.. works life a charm!!!
I was an enthusiastic decorator last Halloween. Repeating a grand idea I’d created on a large wall many years ago, I happily cut out 100 bats from black construction paper. All sizes of bats were carefully Scotch taped, (an inverted sticky roll behind each wing,) to our large white aluminum garage door. They swarmed in beautifully! I was so proud.
Two days later, a terrific wind storm hit our area, and every last bat flew off!
After the tape rolls were discarded, I was left with 200 grayish adhesive marks. So far, nothing I’ve tried, (Goo Gone, nail polish remover, Windex,) have helped much, and after applying elbow grease to these concoctions, the white paint began to come off!
So…I am very excited to try all these NEW ideas!! Since it is currently 2:50 AM, (time flies when I’m reading all your fascinating comments,) I’ll let you know if peanut butter, petroleum jelly, or perfume wins my heart!
In my experience different adhesives may require different chemicals to break them down. My favorite is GooGone but it doesn’t work on everything. Another potent solution is adhesive removal wipes sold for medical use (removing bandages etc.). I had a recent encounter with an adhesive NOTHING would touch…including GooGone, vinegar, alcohol, acetone and even straight sandpaper. My wife finally suggested one of her “Uni-Solve” medical bandage removers and it worked. Still took a bit of rubbing, but it did cut the adhesive so it could be removed. The wipes contain alcohol and dipropylene glycol methyl ether and aloe extract.
I need to remove a bathroom mirror that is glued to the wall WITHOUT breaking the mirror and thus bringing 7 years of bad luck on myself. Will pouring baby or eucalyptus oil on top/behind slowly but surely and probably a lot regularly do the trick? There aren’t any visible gaps. It’s very much stuck to a plaster wall.
HELP!
Thanks
Gas will eat the glue thats holdong the mirror up without hurting the glass or the wall.
I tried all but nothing works simply as another tape to remove a tape residue. I used a simple masking tape to remove sticky tape residues from plastic containers. Just stick it on the surface, use your nails to really get it to adhere, and then peel it off like a band-aid. Do it repeatedly until you have cleared all sticky residues.
Just like a permanent marker can be erased by using a whiteboard marker.
Give a taste of its own medicine.
I accidentally touched sticky insect trap placed by the exterminator. Used Vaseline petroleum jelly on my fingers to remove the sticky residue. Then wiped all on paper towel. Washed my hands and it’s gone.
1.Used nail polish remover
2.Soft scrub sponge (small circular movements to ball up the residue)
3.Cooking oil to smooth, and wipe off residue.
I used this method to take off rubber cement that had spilled. ?
I used a mixture of coconut oil and Dawn to get vinyl floor adhesive tape goo off of my scissors. I heated the mixture about 10 seconds in the microwave to help the oil/detergent combine, stuck the scissors in the mixture and Voila! I was amazed at how easily it came off. I had already used about an ounce or so of Goo Gone, and they were still just as tacky as if I hadn’t done anything.
Name Tag sticker on really nice polo shirt, thought I was going to have to throw it out after putting it through the washer and dryer.
Used peanut butter first, which removed most of the remains of the sticker, but there was a dark rectangle and some gluey residue left. I then soaked in vinegar for almost a day, rubbed with a towel, and it looks beautiful!
Thanks so much for posting these solutions!
How do i remove fabric fusion on clothing? It isn’t that sticky though anymore but still see the glue.
Toothpaste totally worked!!!!
I use petrol to remove adhesive from stamps. Works great.
