20+ Free Pencil Case & Pouch Tutorials: {Sewing}

Here’s a nice collection of pencil case patterns and tutorials, some are loaded with features while others are pretty basic in their design so there should be something for everyone in this bunch. These are not only great for carrying school supplies, but they’re handy to hold craft and needlework supplies too. Some of the designs are fairly similar but each has their own unique twist to offer (most are sewn but you will find a couple knitting patterns in the bunch), enjoy!

Zippered: This one’s loaded with features, has a front pocket, beaded zipper pull and a ribbon loop to hold a carabiner for keys.

Tube: Made with home decor weight material, duck cloth or canvas, the round ends are finished in a contrasting piping.

Triangular: Made with strips of fabric, wool felt and lined inside with a cotton print.

For Binders: This one fits inside a 3-ring binder (grommets are used), has rounded corners and it’s all finished off with contrasting bias tape.

Bags: Made with a 1/2 yard (each) of two different fabrics and super easy to make.

Simple: Another easy project made with 10 x 12 inch rectangles of both lining and outer fabrics and finished off with binding.

Made With Felt: Sweet and simple made with a rectangle of felt and hand sewn together with embroidery thread. Button closure (simple buttonhole made with a snip in the felt).

Oilcloth: You’ll just need a couple pieces of oilcloth and a zipper to make this.

Recycled Cereal Box: Here’s a quick and easy project using cardboard from a cereal box, there’s a free template download available (via pdf).

Zakka Style: This is made with scraps of linen and cotton material, features an applique and attached loop for a key ring.

With Inner Pockets: This design features small inner pockets that were designed to hold matchbox cards but they can be used to hold other supplies if you like.

Vinyl: Surprisingly simple to put together, this features contrasting colors on each end and along the top plus a vinyl applique on the front.

Flat: The is lined and features a contrasting fabric along the top (zipper is near the top so the pocket is nice and deep).

Checked Knit: This one’s knit in two contrasting colors, lined with cotton and has two hidden pockets.

Sharpie: Here’s a cute little lined, zipped pouch that has a sharpie design on the front and doodles on the back.

Bubble Applique: Lined and has circles (bubbles) appliqued across the front.

Zipped: Scraps of material (black, cream, yellow, gray & pink), lining and fusible fleece are needed to make this project.

Zip-It-Up: Here’s a neat project using an 80″ nylon zipper and 80″ of ribbon (a strip of lining is optional).
