25+ Crochet Bags & Totes Patterns: {Free}

Here’s a lovely assortment of free crochet patterns for totes and bags…many are great to take along when shopping or at the beach while others are a little more sophisticated in design. I’ll be adding to this list as I find more goodies so you might want to bookmark this page. Enjoy!


Sicily [1]: Fun & colorful with the body in rows of assorted colors and a cheery floral top border.

Market [2]: Features a pretty lacy stitch and pops of color along the handles, pdf download available as well as a stitch chart.



Colorful Stripes [3]: The bottom is done in the round then once you achieve the size you want, dc rows up the body and top off with a shell edging.

Felted with Lace Handles [4]: Constructed with a front and back panel, bottom/side panel is one piece. Finished size measures 10″ (width) x 6 1/2″ (height).



Masa [5]: Very simple and is worked into a rectangle 20 cm wide and 53 cm long and then folded and stitched into shape.

Granny Squares [6]: Each side is made of nine 5-inch squares; the band joining the sides and the handle is made of a continuous strip of dc.



Leafy [7]: Pretty leafy motif with circular bamboo handles.

Vibrant [8]: Use this to haul both groceries and crafting projects alike! This works up in a hurry, using simple sc and hdc.



Paris [9]: Skill level marked as Intermediate. Measures approximately 12″/30.5 cm wide x 11″/28 cm high x 7″/18 cm deep.

Hobo [10]: Pretty with purse handles and ribbon trim.



Granny Stripe Boutique [11]: Small with handles, made with worsted weight yarn and hook size U.S. I/9 (5.50mm).

Bobble-licious [12]: Quick to whip together and is ideal for a child and mainly done in bobble stitches. Features ribbon trim at top edge and a handle.



Apricot [13]: Cute with handles and a buttoned strap across the middle for closure. Features metal rings and a key hanger on ends.

Chunky Button [14]: Finished Size is 12-1/2 inches wide, 10-1/2 inches long.



Catan [15]: Hexagons are made in assorted colors then joined together with a neutral colored yarn (with sc).

Creole [16]: Skill Level marked as Intermediate. Back and front are each made up of 4 equal panels + 1 st on each end. Suede wrapped rattan & wood handle.



Orange Spider Motif [17]: (diagram) There is a reference link provided to help you figure things out if you don’t know how to work with diagrams.

English Fantasy Flower [18]: Each side is made with 7 African Flower hexagons, how vibrant and fun!



Waves of Color [19]: A great stashbuster using assorted colors of worsted weight yarn, finished size measures 8 1/2″ tall by 12″ wide.

Flower Burst [20]: Lovely flowers in the middle, no need to be lined since the base stitches are tight. Skill level marked as “Easy”.



Ombre [21]: Finished size measures 9.5″ height x 12″ diameter and made with 9 different colors of worsted weight yarn.

Cotton [22]: One-size tote is worked in the round with sc stitches. Recommended for beginners.



Seed Stitch [23]: Sized for young girls and measures 8″ long x 3″ wide x 5″ tall (not including straps).

Honeycomb Purse [24]: Has bamboo handles and button/loop closure.



Simple [25]: Finished size measures 11″ long, 10.5″ wide (at the top) and 15″ wide (at the bottom). Made with worsted weight yarn and a J hook (6.00 mm).

Granny Square [26]: Directions are for assembling the squares and making the base & straps.


Here’s a shoe bag from an old issue of The Workbasket magazine. I’ve scanned it into a pdf file if you’d like to download it.

It takes approximately 210 yards (1 skein) in any desired color. Use a plastic hook, size J or any size hook which will result in gauge given.
